I cannot emphasise enough how good this hostel is! It was so clean and comfortable! The food was great, alcohol a bit pricey. The Internet was a bit slow but that's to be expected! Overall great stay!

My sister and I stayed her for a night before doing the waitomo caves. We had not booked and that was not a problem, the staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Only issues, massive fuss at reception, for unknown reasons we had to wait 20 minutes to check in. Also the WiFi is awful! Don't waste your money on it.
Lovely clean spacious rooms.
Great cheap bar, and cafe.
Clean bathrooms.
Lovely large kitchen area!

It's what it is, cheap and cheerful. Went for double room deluxe, on suite. Great for one night whilst visiting the caves, Pizza and beer was fine in the bar area. Nice views from balcony in room. Rooms had tv and tea making facilities. Yes would stay again. Most of the other people seen to be 18 to 25 back packer types and many on. If coach tours, however ten feel of the place was good.

Room Tip: An upstairs deluxe room with on suite

I know a selection of different room types are available, but the backpacker rooms were some of the best I stayed in during my whole trip in NZ. No bunk beds (!!), clean, really spacious rooms, comfy beds, good laundry facilites and really helpful staff. Would stay again without a doubt.

We stayed at the Kiwi Paka in one of the backpacker double rooms. If you can call it a double. The bed was tiny, every time one of us rolled over, it was like an earthquake. It was a dry hostel due to the money grabbing owners having a bar on site. Additionally, the kitchen facilities were diabolical and they wanted $20 deposit to hire basic kitchen equipment and crockery, again presumably to encourage you to eat in their restaurant. The rooms were key card entry and you were only allowed one per couple meaning when my boyfriend went to make breakfast whilst I was asleep, I got locked out in my pyjamas when I went to the toilet and had to run through the hostel in my pyjamas.

If you are thinking of staying here, don't.

Had a double chalet room for one night.
Accommodation was basic but clean and tidy.
Wanted to eat there but menu very limited and very international - meaning the majority of limited choice was Thai!
Accommodation great for backpackers or visitors on limited budget.
