Although the hosts are sociable and the location extremely convenient tea/coffee stuff is in the room and guests can use the laundry it is not good enough. We stayed two nights so we could visit the caves (with hindsight one night is enough). The breakfast consists of undrinkable orange juice and a limited range of cereals and toast. No cooked breakfast is offered. The rooms are small, do not have a fridge and are too hot if the sun shines. There is no guest lounge and the eating room struggles to cope with all the many guests at breakfast-time. Our bed was not made up on the second day and the very irritating and frequently barking dog did not help. Evening food is not available although there is a choice of walkable eateries nearby. We came to the conclusion that the business is being milked to the detriment of guests’ experiences. Despite a seeming lack of decent competitive accommodation in the immediate vicinity, some options do exist albeit a bit further away from the caves themselves and if there were a next time we would look at these more closely.

This B&B is conveniently situated to visit the Visitor's Centre and Waitomo Cave. Colin and Janet were very helpful and suggested walks etc. we could do in the locality. Our room was spacious with a large bathroom. The Lodge is directly opposite the HuHu Restaurant, which we found to be of good quality.

Indeed a great place to stay and all the reviews are true. Set in lovely surroundings you really will find it hard to find a nicer place to stay. The owners were very friendly and provided all that we needed. Rooms were very nice and exactly what you'd want and expect. Only gripe which has been mentioned before, no cooked breakfast. Still they had a large array of other breakfast items.

I'd stay again.

We only stayed here for one night but wished we could have stayed longer. The hosts,Janet and Colin were very welcoming..nothing was too much trouble. Our spotless room was at the "top" and had amazing views all around. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed Colins' home made bikkys..lovely touch. It was a hot night but the fan worked well and we enjoyed sitting out on our little patio before we went to bed.
Colin was friendly and told us about places to visit, without being pushy or overbearing.
After a good, leisurely continental breakfast, Janet took us on a tour of the gardens..beautifully maintained and full of flowers..we were encouraged to pick the sweet grapes growing over their patio.
Overall we found the Lodge to be a comfortable, relaxing place to stay and would recommend it very highly.

My boyfriend is a 5 star guy, while I'm more of a backpacker. This was a great "meet in the middle" place for us. Nice rooms, really comfortable bed, private deck to enjoy sunset and very friendly, helpful hosts. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
