Our hosts Biddy and Rich have created a B&B with a twist. This little cottage (can hold 4 people), with old school fun and enjoyment. No TV and no internet. Wood fire to keep warm and very comfortable bed. You look out on a horizon of hills and valleys, vista’s galore. Breakfast supplies are provided. Close to waitomo and all the glow worms and caving.
Great location to enjoy tranquility.
We stayed here for 2 nights and loved every single bit of it! A cosy house with a nice flair! All the little lovely details to discover in the house, the great coffee and amazing hosts! We will be back on a sunny weekend and explore the area better!
Hey Biddy! Like typical twenty something's (very late twenties I might add) we didnt have a pen on us to write in the guest book. Rock Retreat is an absolute slice of heaven and I wish we had booked an extra night. It was so lovely to not have a tv and spend the night by the fire playing board games and laughing about our inability to guess NZ logos! We really want to find "Watties" on our adventures today! Thank you so much for the stunning view and the beautifully laid out cottage. We hope to come back someday with our son so he can enjoy it with us. Carly & Fred - the Far North Queensland Newlyweds x
A stunning setting with a comfy home..certainly recommend itWe only had a short stay (wish it had been longer) Waitimo caves just down the road agsin worth a visit.
If you are planning a trip to Waitomo or its surrounding area there is no better place than Rock Retreat to base yourself. The accommodation is a perfect mix of comfort and cuteness with the most amazing views. We absolutely loved our stay and the kids really enjoyed their lofty sleeping quarters. What really makes this stay fabulous though is the hosts - Biddy and Rich are friendly, helpful and respectful of your privacy. Our stay was truly absolutely awesome!!
It was a 10 minute drive from waitomo to this lovely little retreat. Our GPS stopped working the minute we arrived in Waitomo (not sure why) but we stopped to check the directions from biddy at the i-site and found it easily.
You could tell a lot of care had been put into the retreat and we enjoyed the breakfast - homemade jams and yoghurt. Plus the milk and butter seemed to be from a local farm too. We ate it all before heading to black water rafting!
We loved this place. It really gave us a sense of home being so peaceful and quiet with great views of the rolling green hills and mountains with only the sounds of birds, sheep and the wind breaking the silence. We stayed only one night but wish it had been at least one more. We stayed here at the recommendation of friends and it was our first day and night in New Zealand. What a way to begin our first night of 3 weeks in the country. The owner and host Biddy was very gracious and very helpful with what to do and see in the area and even made reservations for us at the caves and for dinner.
The cottage is a quaint studio type country cottage with a loft sleeping area for the kids or extra guests. It has a great deck where we enjoyed the sunset and sunrise. Nice bed and bathroom also had clothes washer. Secluded but still just 10 minutes from the village. Breakfast was good especially the homemade yogurt and jam. They have a wonderful property you can walk around and explore and even meet the sheep. I would highly recommend and will definitely return.
