“Better restaurant than most that we visited in NZ.”

Food was good and reasonably priced. Free internet. Reasonably priced large beers. Go big!

“Pub-style food, interesting menu”
Reviewed 23 August 2011

The Thirsty Weta offers pub-style food, but with a more interesting menu than the average pub. I had the curry and my partner thought all her Christmases had come at once when the big pot of mussels arrived. The mussels were a great success, and my curry was good and tasty, if not hot. A very good selection of beers and wines at reasonable prices.

“Lovely lunch and atmosphere”
Reviewed 3 August 2011

Dropped in here after visiting the Kiwi house for a bit of lunch only to find we were 10 mins late. Still, they served us a lovely fish chowder and a beef satay kebab which were both very nice a reasonably priced. The background music had us singing along and tapping our feet to one or two old favourites. Would have lunch here again and wouldn't mind visiting in the evening when it looks as though things could liven up with various live music artists.

“Good food & beer with atomosphere to match.”
Reviewed 16 May 2011

In a fairly quiet little part of the world this was a great Friday night find. A fun, local bar/restarurant/cafe. We stopped in for dinner and were well looked after by the staff. There were some great local beers on tap and the food was delicious (and cheap!). If you're stuck for choice then the burgers come highly recommended, and they were excellent. Worth a visit!

“Good Pub Atmosphere but Not Much seating”
Reviewed 24 April 2010

Great as a Pub and for drinking but as a restaurant it is slightly lacking. There was limited seating some on high stools around high tables and only a few tables suitable for dining. The food was average and the service was average but there is very little choice in the evenings in Waitomo and so you take what you can get. The soup we had was exremely hot and spicey which was not to our liking but may be to yours...
I would only reccomend this restaurant pub as it is the best you will get in the area not necessarily because it is good.
