We did the 2 night package, well worh the money and everything is looked after for you. Good spacious rooms and ground level and car out side, good showers. Enjoyed the hot tun after the walk. First night we ate in the station restaurant, quite posh but excellent food. Nothing to much bother for Ron and Lorraine. We even borrowed a walking stick, useful for the steep descent down to the emerald pools on the walk.

Room Tip: Take the 2 day deluxe package, these rooms actually sleep 5 people, so nice and roomy for 2.

A big thanks to Lorraine and her hubby who made our whole experience wonderful. To know that someone will make sure you get safely off the mountain means a lot. To get up to date info on weather conditions and a local opinion on safety was terrific. The food was great and much appreciated, as was the spa. We hope to return to do the crossing again, hoping for views next time, but will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Double beds are a bit small and very bouncy. I wouldn't recommend them for couples - get a room...

Fairly basic but comfortable accommodation - but what do you expect in a national park? Lorraine, the proprietor, can be a little intimidating as she talks at you very quickly, but she is undoubtedly efficient & she did recommend the excellent Station Restaurant for dinner.

Comfortable lodging, and friendly hosts. Recommended. We only had one night to stay for the tussock classic and this came recommended via trip advisor. Also took advantage of dining at the station cafe. Very very good.

We stayed two nights with our teenage sons in a budget accommodation with shared facilities, everything perfectly clean and comfortable. And of course we took the deal with the "Freedom package" which is actually very hard to beat, The owners have though of everything you could possibly need and instruct you very well before the walk so you are prepared when they drop you off at the track. And the same goes for when you return: they do take good care of you! One of us suffered from a sun stroke and they were very tolerant and let us stay in the room until he recovered.completely.
The food is also excellent. Even the sandwich included in the tour meal is delicious with lots of salad and vegetables. And the same goes for the dinner that they prepare while you are in the jacuzzi recovering from the Crossing.
And all this to a very affordable price.

We stayed three nights in a room with twin beds and shared shower and toilet facilities. Everything was very clean. The room was small and the walls thin so that you can really hear your neighbours talking. However you are not supposed to spend much time in the lodge when you are in a national park! We had our own milk, Müsli etc. and could use the guests' kitchen to prepare our breakfast.
Lorraine was very helpful and friendly (as Ron was) just wait when she is not under pressure with too many customers and tasks and she will help you organise the rest of your holiday in New Zealand.

The two-night package is ideal when you only have a week end to spend at Tongariro National Park. If you decide to start early in the morning and jump into the first shuttle (comfortable 8 seat bus), be ready to be served a proper big "English Breakfast" with scrambled eggs and plenty of meat. That will keep you going for the 7hour walk while your driver (and also cook) Ron will be giving you comments about his involvement into the local community. His active wife Lorraine is very good at giving you the best advice for planning your walks through the maps and pointing at photos on the walls! As a reward at the end of the day you get half hour of hot tubs (to be booked in advance!) and also a nice meal for dinner. Your hosts always make sure you are all right at any time. Remember: wine corkage is five dollars if you BYO. Well done guys for opening your doors to us in Summer time and thank you again for your hospitality!!

Room Tip: If you stay at the lodge, try to be away from noisy bathroom doors and really thin walls and floors...
