“Cant wait to go back!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Its not often nowadays that you stumble across an establishment, and after kicking yourself it has been on your doorstep for years and you have never been, you then spend the following week trying to find a reason to go back !
A great pub tucked away in the middle of the countryside, and yet clearly it was "the place to be"
I had a glass of the local cider, champagne style, and OH had the local ale.
We went straight in for the mains only because the desserts looked amazing and I didnt want to be to full ! I had the pork belly which was cooked to perfection and surrounded by a halo of crispy crackling, OH had the steak (he always has steak !) again which was perfectly cooked to his liking, with a pot of homemade chips, he even complemented the salad & dressing !!
Whilst we waited for our mains the waitress came round with a selection of freshly baked rolls, and a little gaspacho shot, OH had 2 of the sundried tomato rolls.
I don't think we have been this enthusiastic about somewhere we have been to eat in about 5 years!
Will DEFINITELY be going back ...hopefully very soon !

“Tucked well away and fantastic”
Reviewed 3 July 2014 via mobile

Although this isn't the easiest pub in the world to find, it's not all that hard (and the directions on the website are pretty good) and when you get there, you will be delighted. The setting is quintessential 'English Village', the views to the East are stunning and the food is superb.

If you're lucky enough not to be the driver then you can also enjoy an extensive wine list and a selection of real ales.

I've been there twice. Once mid week in a group of 8. We had roast beef and all the trimmings. This was carved at our table and was as good as you'll get anywhere. The second visit was a Thursday lunchtime on a beautiful summer's day. Again the food was fantastic (we had ham/egg/chips and crayfish risotto). I thought the pub would be pretty empty on a weekday lunchtime - not a bit of it. It wasn't overly packed but it was busy. I think this is testament to how popular it is with those "in the know."

It's near Cowdray Park/Midhurst and not too far from Goodwood. I can't recommend it highly enough. The manager told me when we left that there was an 8-week waiting list for Sunday lunch so remember to book!

“Very enjoyable”

Met some friends there for lunch one Friday. Found it easily, with directions from the Duke of Cumberland.
We had an excellent table on the terrace overlooking Fernhurst Hills - beautiful.
Good choices menu; excellent food; and superb staff.
Couldn't fault it.

“Duke of Cumberland. The secret's out.”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

A magical pub in a perfect setting with an award-winning restaurant. You have to book and if you want to go there Fri, Sat evening you often have to book way ahead. Lunchtime is great also. You have a lovely garden to eat in if it's warm enough, the service is very attentive and good and friendly. It's just a terrific place. .
