We stayed here for 4 nights as a result of the Volcanic eruption. We had been in Montagu for 2 weeks visiting relatives but could not leave! The hotel staff were immensely kind and friendly, even offering to phone Air france for us (we'd still be there if we waited for a reply). The room was huge, in the middle of the separate house and the aircon was noisy but efficient. We ate there twice and had good food. We loved the art deco touch and the birds in the garden. It is really a hotel for - dare I say - oldies.
In all the furore of trying to get answsers to flight problems so far from home (UK), it was a real oasis.

After a long trip from Port Elisabeth, with a couple of quite average stop-overs, we arrived at Montagu Country Hotel, the plan was to stay for one night, but we had to stay longer. This is a calm, historic and soulful place with a warm staff that loves kids, and that is much appreciated when your traveling with a 6 months old :-) The biggest pool was nice for morning exercise, and the lunch buffet was really good, reminded us of the food grandma used to make. A wonderful venue... with great food, a nostalgic atmosphere and the friendliest staff I have yet encountered. It's a hidden gem; unassuming from the outside but with beautiful gardens and pool. The rooms are spacious, well-kept and very comfortable. The real clincher, however, is the staff. Friendly and helpful to a fault and wonderfully down to earth. You MUST stay for dinner! The food was excellent and Kosie Hanekom provided the ideal ambience on the piano. Our first night was spent in the African Hut. It is situated in the one corner of the property; separate to the rest of the hotel. Unfortunately, it is especially exposed to noise from the street and we did not sleep well. On reporting this the next morning we were immediately upgraded to a suite in the main building at no extra charge. Wow! Needless to say, we had a peaceful second night!

Excellent value, very warm welcome. Step back in time - Art Deco hotel. Large airy bedrooms, comfortable beds. Large spa bath & good bathroom. The hotel has an arterial well which pushes water up, under natural pressure from 120 metres below ground. The water is 22 degrees when it reaches the surface. It is then heated to perfect temp. for the private mineral tub. We had lunch outside in a very pretty garden & dinner in the dinning room, both were excellent, really good value. Music was played in the evening in the dinning room on baby grand piano - a lovely relaxing ambience. Good pool. Private parking.
Montagu is a pretty, sleeply town on R62.

Our trip to Montague was to relax and unwind, and what a pleasant experience. The Management and staff treated us like family.

The room that we stayed in was very comfortable and clean, had a lovely view onto the rose garden. The jacuzzi in the on suite assisted with the relaxation being the primary reason for the weekend.

The Montague Country Hotel has an unique atmospher with old world decor suitable for the building.

The restaurant is to be recommended, food and decor equal to any big city hotel. Meals are enhanced with the lovely tranquil live piano entertainment.

The garden is a paradise with a lot of birds, especially sugar birds.
