“Lovely evening, good food”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We've very much enjoyed our evening out @ Jessica's Restaurant. Warm welcoming athmosphere, well cooked prawn curry, chicken Cordon Bleu and a delicious lamb stew. Lovely wine and dessert made our evening, we would definately go there again!

“Horrible food”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

The bottom line about Jessicas is - you have other options so don't go to this restaurant. From a very limited menu, two of us selected the Thai vegetable curry. Quite frankly it was awful. There was absolutely no chilli in the dish and it really tasted like warmed up coconut milk with a large amount of stale, yellowed cauliflower and a few beans. Both plates of food went back to the kitchen untouched. The bottle of wine was overpriced and of poor quality - something that is difficult to get wrong in this part of the world.

“Not impressed.”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

This was our second visit to South Africa in 5 months. Of all the many Restaurants we have eaten at, in the Western Cape, and on the Wine Route, this has to be the worst. We booked in advance, and were the first in the Restaurant. Even with the minimal Main Course Menu they offer, there was no Lamb, at the very start of 'service'. My Wife had ' Venison' as alternative. This turned out to be Ostrich !. Myself and our friends had Jessica's specialty, 'Slow Roasted Duck'. It was dry and overcooked and tough. The owner was very 'offish'. The waitress, Vanessa, however, was extremely polite and pleasant, and a credit to the Establishment. The place lacked atmosphere, and had no Bar area. We would not return to Jessica's after this experience.

“dinner nightmare....”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

Referred here by guesthouse. May have been good in past, but something has gone very wrong.....Decor: we were seated in as small, bland violet painted room with a sofa and discarded sideboard of sorts, thankfully half the lightbulbs in the overhead light pendant weren't working, and the remaining were really bright - not conductive to a intimate, romantic atmosphere. Besides the 4-6 cockroaches constantly running between the tables, service was poor - our 2 medium-rare sirloins took 40 mins to arrive - thinner than a McDonald's patty, very well done and in need of a very sharp streak knife to dissect. The chips were boiling hot on the outside and cold/raw on the inside - obviously microwaved. Salad leaves were wilted, dispersed with the occasional slice of cherry tomato. This was supposed to be a romantic dinner treat which turned out to be a total mood killer and really unpleasant experience. The owner didn't seem too fazed by our complaints, and casually accepted that we would not be paying for their culinary products. Pitty, the place does have potential - a spot of paint and educating the chef will go a long way.

“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed 26 March 2014 via mobile

We returned to Jessicas after another visit a few years ago, because we remembered it to be one of the best restaurants on our trip then.
But now as the old chef is gone and they have not found a new one who can fill the gap it was unfortunately not a very good experience.
I had the venison tartar, which was very good. My wife had the pork belly and that was not so good. Pork belly should be crispy, it wasnt. And the piece of filet on the plate was good meat, but much too much salt and pepper on it.
Main was a sirloin steak for me, which was quite good. Wife again had bad luck with the duck, which we had to return as the sauce was just sour and did not taste like orange sauce at all.
The staff was extremely friendly and offered to replace it with something else, in this case wife just chose a cheese desert.
That was OK, but also not very good.
So, sadly, we were quite disappointed this time and really hope they find a good new chef so that things might get better soon.
