“Country side, Gourmet Bliss”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Rambling Rose is without a doubt an unexpected gourmet bliss in the country side. From the culinary hub of Franschhoek to the well acclaimed seafood restaurant from the Waterfront and Houtbay, their seafood is unmatched (Yellow Fin Tuna Fillet Steak). To experience such fine seafood in the country side is a captivating surprise. The service is friendly and professional with a warm touch. The coffee beans has been selected by a true Barista. Overall Rambling Rose offers great value for money and a proclaimed line of consistency with an attention to detail.

“Back again”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

We stop here every time we pass through Montagu. Why? The freshest fish you've ever had! The owner has a constant supply of fresh fish from Cape Town, almost unheard of in this part of the world. Fish is always my choice but there is also an extensive menu with lots of interesting things besides the various fish dishes. Great husband and wife team with good staff, keep up the good work.

“Fantastic food, service and atmosphere”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Cannot rate this little restraunt/cafe enough. Found it by chance whilst walking around the town. Have been staying at some wonderful hotels and lodges, in the Western Cape, over the past couple of weeks and have been treated to some wonderful food, but there is something different about The Rambling Rose. Knowledgable staff without being too over the top. A wide variety of food prepared there and then. Extreemly reasonable prices. The food was fantastic - prepared with love and care - you could tell the difference. Thank you for a lovely meal - wish we were styling longer in the town!

“An unexpected stop”
Reviewed 7 August 2014 via mobile

We stopped on our way back from the safari as we wanted to have lunch. This is a nice small cafe/resteraunt which has to be visited if you're in the vicinity. Lovely people and great fresh food. Do get their chocolates on the way out.

“Rip off at Rambling Rose”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We went to Rambling Rose for a small lunch as we did not want to spoil our dinner booking. We decided to share a salad between the two of us. The waiter told us that if we wanted to do so, then there would be a R25 surcharge on top of our bill for sharing. We were horrified at this and decided against the food. The waiter then spoke to the manager who agreed that we could then share without the added surcharge. After taking our order and waiting for another 10 minutes, the waiter came back and said that the owner had decided that he wasn't happy and the surcharge would be added to our bill after all! We were horrified and decided that we did not want to eat there at all with that kind of attitude.
The place was not that busy so rather than take the business they lost it!
On top of that the cafe Latte must have been one of the worst I have had, with the coffee tasting like it had been on the brew for hours! Definitely won't recommend and will most definitely will not be back!

Good morning VanRowe1960. Let me start with our coffee, we take our coffee extremely seriously. In fact we have five certified Baristas on site at all times, including myself. Our coffee grinder is set every morning and I taste the espresso's in order to ensure the grind is perfect. All our coffee's are made with double shots of espresso that are extracted to order, so it certainly has not been brewing for hours! In fact, your waiter Ryan specifically asked you about the coffee ( which you finished) and you did not express your dislike. I find it really sad that you have taken to this platform to express your opinion yet you were unable to communicate this with us, therefore giving us an opportunity to rectify your complaint.

With regards to the R25 sharing surcharge, this is the norm in a lot of restaurants and our policy is clearly indicted on our menu. In our three years of operation we have never encountered a guest that is 'horrified' at this policy. Once again I reiterate that had you addressed your complaints directly to us we would have tried to find a comprise to alleviate your dissatisfaction.
