Lovely big rooms. Characterful service although dinner not quite as special as they think it is. Good atmosphere in a pretty and small town. Overall a very nice place to stay. Try some of the other joints in town for a drink or dinner too.

This was a most disappointing stay. We were booked into the "Orchard Suite", which probably is delightful in summer. But in August it proved to be cold and unwelcoming. Despite added fan heaters we had a shivering night. Seeing daylight through the high ceiling (roof) was not very encouraging. The room is quirky and spacious. The bathroom is well equipped. The main lounge/bar facilities are small and Wifi only works in those rooms. The upholstery is sad and our breakfast was overcooked. The off-road parking is not secure and requires guests to double park. We were assured that security here is not an issue and this is probably true. Montagu is delightful and interesting. The room booked for us should not be used in such cold weather unless the heating issue is properly addressed. The staff are willing and want to help. They were disappointed that we left early. But a refund was paid without question.

Room Tip: Only choose the Orchard Suite in good weather

We made a short stopover and enjoyed a delicious meal and a quiet night in that wonderful place. Also bought nice ostrich egg candles there. The breakfast- and diner room was a little bit uncomfy. All in all we enjoyed our Montagu stay, it is a neat little town.

Shared a food and wine paired dinner with the Chef Patron and his wife. Everything on the menu from the house produced wine to the venison and be carefully selected and sourced by the owner. Snow on the mountains around the area helped add to the ambiance . A little piece of Europe in Montague.

My wife and I and my sister in law and our son stayed in this hotel for 2 nights 7th & 8th Jul 2013. Our rooms were nice and bright at the very bottom of the garden and of a high standard and very comfortable.

This is a small hotel and there is a strong input from the owners and their friends. It is friendly and well run and they give you good advice on activities in the area. Breakfasts are excellent. The highlight of our stay was the meal we had the 1st night – it was one of the best we had in SA and every course was superb – not cheap but excellent value for money.

The hotel was categorised to us as a 3 star – it is by far the best 3 star hotel I have stayed and would be the match in terms of service, facilities and enjoyment of hotels in a higher category.

Room Tip: Garden rooms have excellent mountain views.

We stayed here for 1 night on a family vacation in July. First of all, the rooms are absolutely beautifully and tastefully furnished! It is a pleasure to just spend time in the rooms. Most South African hotels don't have heating, but the Mimosa Lodge does, which made the rooms that much cozier. Additionally, the rooms and beds were wonderfully clean and as great as you could expect from any five-star hotel. The Mimosa Lodge has a great library and bar (with a fireplace, which was perfect in winter!) with free WiFi and a great selection of wines. The staff, especially the manager Bernard, is so incredibly friendly and helpful that we didn't want to leave. We didn't try the restaurant, but the venue and menu looked amazing. Had we stayed longer, we definitely would have tried it! All in all, the Mimosa Lodge is one of the best hotel experiences we've had, and we will recommend it to everyone (and we'll definitely be back!).

Room Tip: Room 8 is beautifully furnished and has a great view!

We stayed for one night at Mimosa Lodge and would go back again - possibly for longer. Everybody was so friendly and the service was really efficient without being too formal. We had a garden room which was really spacious and well appointed. There was no AC which we were initially concerned about but there was no reason to be; the room was really airy and there was also a large fan. The outlook from the room was lovely and indeed the whole grounds are beautiful and clearly very well cared for. We spent a warm, relaxing afternoon by the pool and enjoyed a few drinks from the honesty bar.

Dinner was the highlight of our stay; we started with a welcome drink outside and then had a four course meal in the dining room with matching wines chosen for each course. The food was sublime - I still dream about that meal!

At breakfast there was a good buffet selection and also hot eggs etc on request which were cooked very well.

Overall a fabulous stay and we can't wait to go back.
