I visited the Mimosa Lodge last April with my mum. We actually decided to visit the town of Montagu because this lodge looked so lovely on the website, and we were not disappointed!
Firstly, the main building is adorable, built in a victorian style with a balcony running the length of the first floor that all guests can access. There are a few comfortable chairs there. Even though it faces the street, there are so few cars passing by in this quiet town that it doesn't really matter. Behind the building is a maze-like garden, with a little pool hidden away. The owners use the produce of their vegetable patch in the meals.
Our room was on the first floor, and to reach it you climb some creaky stairs and pass by a cosy mezzanine where you could take a seat in an armchair if you needed to catch your breath! Our room was a good size, with plenty of room around the beds, a couch, and some books in cases. The bathroom was huge, with a unusual, modern shower. The rooms were wonderfully scented with lavender.
Have dinner at the mimosa too, the chef is makes some surprising dishes with the local produce (Karoo Lamb, Lavender creme brulee..). We were sorry we could only stay one night.
