I wish I could say the same thing as all the reviews I have read before booking this b&b. We were greeted by a not so friendly host almost as if Jeanne-our host did not expect us. It was our family break, and probably the worst part of an otherwise pretty guest house. The place itself is stunning, but we will not recommend any of our friends or family to stay here (we would rather stay in the charming little town itself with lovely, helpful residents). It almost felt as if we where not welcome and breakfast where indeed not 4star as rated in food selection but especially the constant feeling that we where not welcome and "in the way". Very disappointing indeed.

Wunderful B&B cottages in a lovely garden and spectacular view. Very nice hosts who do care a lot about their guests, with many helpful tipps and an outstanding breakfast (the best we had in RSA!). :-) Very quiet and secure neighbourhood.

Montagu is a small and lovely town with hot springs, several nice nature walks and a good infrastructure (nice restaurants!)

This is one of the cutest B&B we have stayed in during our trip around South Africa.

The property is located on the edge of Montagu, surrounded by wild and magnificently beautiful mountains. It also has a swimming pool and a very well-tended garden where you can admire the views.

The rooms are very comfortable, clean and opens onto the garden. It is obvious that Jeanne the owner has put a lot of thoughts in furnishing the room, and both of the rooms we stayed in was decorated in very cute and slightly quirky style. Breakfast was delicious.

Jeanne is a gracious hostess, and don't forget to ask her to recommend the excellent wineries near by if you stay in Montagu!

This was possibly one of my most contradictory stays in South Africa. As a guest house manager and frequent traveller Aasvoelkrans only ticked some boxes. It is absolutely beautiful, from hand embroided linen and individually eclectically decorated rooms to the most magnificent garden and pool. The VERY DISAPPOINTING downside was the hostess, Jeanne. As a group of 6, we all found her to be very rude. She did not smile once or make us feel welcome at all. Even commented on the amount of milk we used with breakfast...when we had to ask for more. The breakfast was beautifully presented on handmade pottery and served with fresh flowers ( and a very sour face). One small piece of bacon, one scrambled egg( we all had to choose the same thing - all fried or all scrambled) and a mushroom or two diced and grilled ( very yummy - in rosemary butter).

The bed was beautiful, the shower decent. Tea and coffee making facilities very nice, Hair-dryer weak.

the garden here is breathtaking, lush and green, with a beautiful pool and surrounded by mountains, it's just spectacular and because montagu isnt on the official "garden" route, it's slightly less touristy and therefore great value. there are 3 individual cottages, prettily and stylishly decorated each with a stoop to sit out and enjoy the surroundings. its very peaceful and because Montagu doesnt have masses to offer in terms of sightseeing, i strongly recommend you stay here for a mid trip restorative break of just lounging around the garden, dipping in and out of the pool (the hot springs are like an overcrowded public swimming pool, don't bother). only downside is that you may get woken early as the curtains albeit pretty, are rather flimsy. pack an eye mask.

Without exaggeration the Aasvoelkrans was one of the best B&B's we ever encountered. Everything was nearly perfect: the welcome by the owner Jeanne, the beautifully decorated large room, the breakfast and the way it was served in the nice gardens. The Aasvoelkrans was on-purpose designed as a small B&B (4 rooms), each with their own entrance and terrace, overlooking the gardens and giving a view on the mountains. The B&B is located in area of quietness, just outside Montagu; however within 15 minutes walking distance to some nice restaurants. Opposite the B&B a hiking trial starts, giving you the opportunity to make a 1.5 hour roundtrip in the mountains, with beautiful views on Montagu and the surrounding mountain area.
Concerning dinner we can definitly recommend Jessica, offering great food served in its garden.
A minor point could be the fact that there is not yet WIFI available, which could make the B&B more perfect.

We stayed here on our honeymoon as part of trip along the garden route and were blow away by the beautiful garden and rooms. They are very private and set in immaculate gardens. Other reviews have commented on Jeanette, but we found her very helpful in making recommendations and booking restaurants and if she is treated with respect she will do likewise. Would highly recommend staying here and it is an easy walk in to Montagu
