We came back to Aasvoelkrans after a first visit in 2008, and found it just as we remembered - beautiful. The rooms are top notch, well designed and well decorated, and the garden is a lush haven with fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. The pool (more than just a plunge pool) was a special trip on the hot day when we visited. And Jeanne, the hostess, was ever helpful and around to offer the little extras that make your stay more pleasant. Can't recommend Aasvoelkrans enough - and of course the town is beautiful too!

Room Tip: Choose according to your taste for the art on the walls and the beautiful bedspreads - in all other...

The beauty of the place hurts your eyes. Flowers everywhere. Yet we felt we were in someones "house" not private. Our beds were shocking and sagged to the middle. We also felt we could not sit on many of the outdoor furnishing, since they were very fragile, ornaments. A good girls weekend away place, but not for free spirited, loud blokes or girls that like a solid chair or bed and the possibility to make some noise or walk around your room in panties. But if you want to see an artistic, beautiful place and you are happy to just look. There is no problem.

We stayed at Aasvoelkrans for the first time last year and loved it so much that we just had to come back this year. Jeanne looks after her guests so well, you immediately feel at home. All rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. This time we stayed in the cottage which is bigger still and we enjoyed watching the lambs with their antics from our patio. Very entertaining! We particularly love the peacefulness of the setting and the beautiful garden with its wildlife. Lots of different colourful birds. The weaverbirds were interesting to watch at work. The ideal place to unwind. We also enjoyed a swim in the lovely swimming pool.
As has been said before, Jeanne's breakfasts in the main house or on the terrace are excellent.
The location is also a plus, as numerous wineries are in easy reach, as is the Breede River for a boat trip. We had planned to try out the hot springs in Montagu, but although we stayed again for 3 nights, we ran out of time. So we need to come again and are looking forward to it.

We can genuinely recommend this B&B which is reasonably priced and excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Although there were just two of us, we stayed in the separate cottage with two bedrooms and two bath...

We have just spent two nights at Aasvoelkrans and as the previous guests have said- the setting is beautiful, the cottages filled with artistic treasures and the cottage was spotless, with comfortable beds ( we were in the two bedroom cottage with our 3 & 6 year old.)

Jeanne has created such a wonderful setting, filled with her and other's talented and beautiful works; she was very pro-active in helping us with restaurants and activity choices.

I am a fairly sensitive soul, so I can appreciate that some people may feel a bit awkward in the beginning, but my husband and kids didn't feel this way at all- so I would recommend just taking any awkward feelings with a pinch of salt; just enjoy yourself and the surrounding treats and you will find that it really is a wonderful sanctuary and extremely unique.

Our kids LOVED playing in the extensive sandpit under the Huge tree. Jeanne has provided various tractors, diggers, cars and even plastic ducks! to keep children entertained.

Just a word of caution- there is no fence around the pool, so you may need to be aware of this if you have little ones.

There are two swings hanging from the boughs of the tree, which our boys made much use of. We went to see the horses in their stables in the evenings; we loved the well-natured dogs.

We loved our cottage and the fact that the kids could run around outside and entertain themselves so well (we truly appreciated this after staying in a Hotel in Franschhoek afterwards!)

The breakfasts were perfect, in our eyes. We had everything we could have wanted and she even provided flapjacks with nutella on the second morning. Nevermind the kids, we ALL tucked in with glee.

The kids thought it was JUST THE BEST! And that counts for a lot in my books.

My partner and I were planning a road trip around the Western Cape. We decided to stop for one night in Montagu and in browsing accommodation options online, we stumbled across Aasvoelkrans. Seeing the photos it looked full of character with wonderful artwork sprinkled throughout. The rooms are small self-contained cottages with tea/coffee making facilities. The swimming pool was lovely, especially as it was a hot day. Jeanne had a folder with restaurant recommendations - our meal in Montagu was a highlight of the trip...I need to go back through my notes and find the name of the place, I think it had tavern in the title!
It's the artwork (some by Jeanne herself) and the small touches throughout that really make this place special. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We really do wish we could have stayed longer...we'll try and come back on our next trip to SA.

The rooms are beautiful with colourful pictures and flowers everywhere. The rooms are all separate and private and surrounded by wonderful colourful gardens with lots of places to sit and relax in sun or shade. Jeanne is happy to recommend places to go and restaurants to visit, and there are many great wineries in the area. Breakfast is delicious and beautifully presented with lots of fresh fruit.

Montagu is a perfect location for a peaceful stay and we reckon we had chosen the best of the best. Jeanne runs a very arty bed and breakfast in a beautiful setting. She and her husband Tim live in the main house where breakfast is served and there are another four separate apartments. The gardens are colourful and when we were there, were in full bloom. It was early summer. The lawns were green and there were horses in the field opposite. A troop of guinea fowl marched backwards and forwards all day and there were chickens too. The two dogs were very relaxed and came over to say hello every now and then. There was a swimming pool and lots of places to sit and soak up the atmosphere. So much to take in. If you love patchwork and painting, this is the place for you. Flowers everywhere too!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. They are spacious and airy and the beds are huge.
