My family and I stayed at this hotel in January this year for 8 nights. We stayed in the Ferringhi Tower which is accessed by a pedestrian bridge from the main part of the hotel. The family rooms are large and have a partitioning wall to separate. The family rooms in the tower have a king bed and two singles or in the main part of the hotel a king bed and bunks. The room rate is very reasonable. You can pay a little extra to have a buffet breakfast included. The hotel breakfast offers so much choice catering for different individuals. The hotel staff are very accommodating and are very happy to answer any questions that you may have. The night markets are located right out the front of the hotel. At long beach which is just a five minute walk is the Hawker Centre where you can eat dinner. There are many choices of food from Asian to Western an average cost for dinner and drinks for 4 people is around $20 Aus.

Room Tip: If you have children and want a room close to the pool make sure you ask for a Beach wing kidsuite.

Stayed in a deluxe room in the tower wing with two twin beds. The room was fairly spacious, very fresh and we had no complaints there.

Internet service was wired only and at an extra charge (wifi was supposedly available for free in the lobby area but I worked sketchily, same wifi was supposed to be in the rooms at a charge but I couldn't connect) so don't stay here if you're dedicated to good internet access.

Breakfast which we had included was good but not great (no espresso coffee for example). The pool area looked ok but a bit uninspiring, (wouldn't stay here if you have kids who love pool fun). The beach is right outside and ok, beware that it's not the type of paradise beach with azure, crystal-clear water you can get some places in this part of the world though.

We found the kid suite very comfortable, we stayed on the non beach side but it was no problem walking across the overpass to get to the beach and pool. The beach is nothing to rave about though, visibility due to fires in Indonesia prevented any watersports while we were there but I don't hink I wouold want to swim in the ocean there anyway. Large rooms including bathroom. Very clean, beautiful soft bedding. We stayed 4 days/3 nights and would not want to spend any longer than that in the area.
Night markets are right outside the front door and are on every night. Within walking distance of many great eating places.

Room Tip: Kids rooms are great

Good standard hotel in great location in Batu Ferringhi. We stayed in the tower and the room was comfortable and had a nive view along the beach. Probably better than the beach wing which had a noisy club right next door.

Check in was a little slow (but there were 150 changeovers that day!) but we went to the restaurant and pool area and had a swim & drinks while we waited for the room to be ready. Staff ususally very good, if a little slow in the restaurant - but to be fair we only ate there once after we discovered the great places in Batu Ferringhi to eat.

Pool area OK for kids if a little uninspiring - did the job. Beach fine and loads of room for kids to play up & down the beach. There were a lot of activities on teh beach (para-gliding etc), but not really a nuisance.

We loved the night market and the Long Beach Hawker centre - great food and cheap too! The other restuarant we liked was Guan Guan - really freindly and great food. Other than that theLong Beach was better than any other restuarant we tried to be honest...

Taxi drivers outside were great - and all called Jimmy as far as we could tell. One even acted as an impromptue guide when taking us to the Buddhist & Chinese temples.

All in all a great holiday and we would certainly go back to teh Holiday Inn.

Room Tip: Tower wing may be quieter - and walkway to beach & pool no big deal

I decided to stay in this hotel after reading its reviews here. Having experienced it, I would like to share further information on the hotel.

1. Its location is not far into Batu Ferringhi. Batu Ferringhi is of course the northern beach area and you do have to travel through the coastal road from city. Nevertheless, travelling to and fro the hotel to the city is not too bad.

2. The hotel consists of two wings, the low rise beach wing and a tower building across the road. A pedestrian bridge connects the two sides. We stayed on a high floor in the tower because i read that it is quieter and the rooms are new. Well, it was indeed quiet as we were on a high floor away from the street below and there is no restaurant, coffee house, facility or swimming pool at the tower side. This is not a bad thing. Getting across to the beach wing for the coffee house, swimming pool and beach is easy. I am not sure if the beach wing is noisy though.

3. The room is large and newly refurbished as the hotel is quite old. There are two queen sized beds, so it is spacious for its class. I do have a complaint which was the toilet flush. It does not work too well, which is a surprise because usually hotels do not have this problem.

4. The parking at the tower side is adequate. In fact, there is plenty of parking at the back of the tower. Just that, many cars prefer to squeeze at the front. The inadequate parking comments may refer to the beach wing. I saw it was filled with cars at night. You will have to park at the tower side if you can't find a space at the beach side but this is not a big deal because it is just across the street which is not difficult to cross.

5. The beach is decent. A small strip and clean as the hotels now adopt their beach front and maintain it which is good for their business anyway. I went into the waters, well you know what to expect of sea water here but it was fun.

6. The swimming pool is very small with most of it deep. So, most people squeeze into the shallow end. The water is not very clean too because it is small and many people use it.

7. The breakfast is good. It has lots of variety. The patio side table has nice shades from a few very large and tall beach trees. However, the coffee house is not big enough to accomodate guests and you can find guests coming late for breakfast to have to queue up to wait for seats. Not all food in the breakfast buffet is replenished, so if you come late, you will find a lot of food finished. In fact, not much is left to eat if you are late.

8. I have lodge a complaint online with the hotel because my sun block in the room was missing. We left it on the table with our other stuff when we went out and it was gone when we came back. It was the most expensive thing we left unlocked in the room and it went missing. The sun block was new so it could not have been mistakenly thrown away. The management has to educate its staff on this kind of thing.

9. Conclusion is it all depends on the price. If it is not a cheap deal, given its weaknesses, you may want to try other hotels.

Room Tip: I can only comment on the tower side. Don't bother about sea view, balcony or hillview. The se...

Obviously not highly rated among the hotels in batu ferringhi. Holiday inn is not a bad place. 3 nights stay was comfortable, location very convenient and good value. Only downside was the sight of antennas next to our hotel, not ideal for overseas people who put a lot of restrictions on antenna locations, especially next to hotels. Otherwise, room is nice and clean. If you do plan to live in batu ferringhi, have a car ready. There's actually more to do near georgetown but its quite cool to be in batu ferringhi as its somewhat touristy. :)

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort, Penang from 31 December 2011 to 4 January 2012 in a 23rd floor Sea view room with balcony. The view was stunning and the room was recently refurbished. I was initially given a Beach facing room in the old wing on the first day but was relocated to the tower block the next day. The overall experience was quite good .
The local Food Court located just 10 minutes walk from the hotel had stalls serving delicious, wholesome and inexpensive food and drinks every evening and the night market operating daily from 7 to 12 p.m. was an absolute delight for the bargain hunters.
This is a great Family hotel with a nice pool, private beach, water activities and kid's club.
