This hotel has so much potential. It has a fantastic location right on the beach. Great activities happening right on the beach in front of the hotel and night markets and other great eating places right within easy walking distance. WiFi is free from the lobby (although the password does change daily so you must request a new password). My only complaint is that our room did smell rather musty...worse when the air conditioner was on. Room was clean and well-stocked, but I just fel as though I wanted to open a window and let some fresh air in. I think the hotel management is aware of the problem, as scented oil burners were located in the hallways outside the room....but I was tempted to unplug one and put it in our room just to combat the musty, damp smell. The smell had even permearted the bedding which was a shame, since the beds were really rather comfortable,Luckily, the weather was cool enough to do without the air conditioner, so once we realised this seemed to be the source of our problem, we simply switched the air con off, and breathed a lot easier. We have stayed at this hotel before, and never found the musty smell present...so we were surprised by it on this visit.Free entertainment is provided nightly in the lobby......a nice way to end each day. The nightclub a few doors down does 'rock on ' well into the wee hours which could affect light sleepers. Could rate this hotel more highly if it weren't for the lack of fresh air in the rooms.....think it is time for a refresh and renovation.

We r reg guests at hol inn penang. This time stayed 3 wks in the newly renovated rooms. We were on 16th flr with balcony. Ex views. Location is superb. Right in the middle of the action n bus almost outside the door. About 40 mins frm Georgetown but Batu Ferringhi is where most tourists stay. Tower side much better than beach side. Rooms r bigger n cheaper. Beach side can b noisy as rooms overlk pool n r next to a nightclub which has loud music on weekends. The pool is lovely but basic. No sep pool for kids( only one for toddlers) so if u dont like kids in same pool as adults u wont b happy. However the pool is divided into lanes - across the pool. One for volleyball one for kids n one for adults. Surrounds r very nice n 2 " huts" provide massage n beauty procedures. Only dined on snacks at hotel which were very nice but cannot comment on meals. Staff r very friendly n helpful. Cd sometimes do wth an xtra staff member at front desk at busy times. Although rooms hav a safe in them we always use the main safes in the lobby. Gd service in this matter. We first started going here in 1981 n keep coming back. Every hotel has faults. We dont hav a car there n there is always a fight for parking spaces ar wkends- the busiest times n we dont use wi fi so cant comment on that. But in general we find this place superb for value location rooms n friendliness of staff.

My family and I stayed at this hotel in January this year for 8 nights. We stayed in the Ferringhi Tower which is accessed by a pedestrian bridge from the main part of the hotel. The family rooms are large and have a partitioning wall to separate. The family rooms in the tower have a king bed and two singles or in the main part of the hotel a king bed and bunks. The room rate is very reasonable. You can pay a little extra to have a buffet breakfast included. The hotel breakfast offers so much choice catering for different individuals. The hotel staff are very accommodating and are very happy to answer any questions that you may have. The night markets are located right out the front of the hotel. At long beach which is just a five minute walk is the Hawker Centre where you can eat dinner. There are many choices of food from Asian to Western an average cost for dinner and drinks for 4 people is around $20 Aus.

Room Tip: If you have children and want a room close to the pool make sure you ask for a Beach wing kidsuite.

Stayed in a deluxe room in the tower wing with two twin beds. The room was fairly spacious, very fresh and we had no complaints there.

Internet service was wired only and at an extra charge (wifi was supposedly available for free in the lobby area but I worked sketchily, same wifi was supposed to be in the rooms at a charge but I couldn't connect) so don't stay here if you're dedicated to good internet access.

Breakfast which we had included was good but not great (no espresso coffee for example). The pool area looked ok but a bit uninspiring, (wouldn't stay here if you have kids who love pool fun). The beach is right outside and ok, beware that it's not the type of paradise beach with azure, crystal-clear water you can get some places in this part of the world though.

We found the kid suite very comfortable, we stayed on the non beach side but it was no problem walking across the overpass to get to the beach and pool. The beach is nothing to rave about though, visibility due to fires in Indonesia prevented any watersports while we were there but I don't hink I wouold want to swim in the ocean there anyway. Large rooms including bathroom. Very clean, beautiful soft bedding. We stayed 4 days/3 nights and would not want to spend any longer than that in the area.
Night markets are right outside the front door and are on every night. Within walking distance of many great eating places.

Room Tip: Kids rooms are great

Good standard hotel in great location in Batu Ferringhi. We stayed in the tower and the room was comfortable and had a nive view along the beach. Probably better than the beach wing which had a noisy club right next door.

Check in was a little slow (but there were 150 changeovers that day!) but we went to the restaurant and pool area and had a swim & drinks while we waited for the room to be ready. Staff ususally very good, if a little slow in the restaurant - but to be fair we only ate there once after we discovered the great places in Batu Ferringhi to eat.

Pool area OK for kids if a little uninspiring - did the job. Beach fine and loads of room for kids to play up & down the beach. There were a lot of activities on teh beach (para-gliding etc), but not really a nuisance.

We loved the night market and the Long Beach Hawker centre - great food and cheap too! The other restuarant we liked was Guan Guan - really freindly and great food. Other than that theLong Beach was better than any other restuarant we tried to be honest...

Taxi drivers outside were great - and all called Jimmy as far as we could tell. One even acted as an impromptue guide when taking us to the Buddhist & Chinese temples.

All in all a great holiday and we would certainly go back to teh Holiday Inn.

Room Tip: Tower wing may be quieter - and walkway to beach & pool no big deal
