“Good Hotel”
Reviewed 12 August 2012

Three night stay at this hotel.  We were two adults travelling. We booked a Tower King Ocean view room.   This room overlooked the busy main road with a view of the ocean behind.
We found the Tower wing to be clean. We also found it to be quiet which was nice.

Positives:
*Good location. Close to beach, bars & restaurants.
*clean, spacious & comfortable room
*swift check-in (arrived early too)
*staff very attentive & professional
*large, comfy king size bed
*large flat screen TV in room
* free Wi fi  in main areas of hotel

Negative:
* Whilst this did not pose a problem for us, some may find the short walk over the bridge to the beachside inconvenient.

Breakfast was good with various choices. Staff very attentive, polite & helpful  They will make you a cappuccino on request.

Just outside the hotel are bars & restaurants. Hawker stalls at night right on your doorstep also.

Whilst Penang was not personally for us, we would say this is a good hotel & would recommend.  If we were to return, we would  stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel in July. We were in the Tower Wing with ocean views, perfect... Rooms were big and very clean. All the Staff were very friendly and courteous, the staff at the Breakfast Buffet knew your name where you preferred to sit and couldn't have been more helpful. We would definitely recommend the Holiday Inn Penang to everyone, we will definitely be back there again and hopefully that will be in the next 12 months. Keep up the excellent hospitality...

Stayed at the holiday inn with friends who were visiting from out of town. I booked us two rooms on the tower wing. The rooms were huge- enough to fit 4 people. We were given connecting rooms which was really convenient for a group of friends. The beds were big (1 king and 1 queen). The tower wing afforded us some quietness compared to those in the beach wing. Our room was at the 8th floor which had a view of the sea so it was ok. The breakfast buffet was nice. They had a good selection of local and western food choices. And there was variety (different foods were served on the 2 days we were there). Generally I could say this hotel was indeed a good deal. The room came with internet. The gym was quite good and well maintained. And the pool, although small was clean and refreshing. The bathroom amenities were nice (shampoo, body wash and lotion) and were of good quality

The downside though was that the internet was so slow. At some point we couldnt connect and was told by The reception that there was a server problem (although i think this issue has been raised by previous reviewers too). We were given temporary prepaid passwords which lasted for about 4 hours. Decent but cumbersome nonetheless. Another downside is that the bathroom had a ball of curly hair left on the floor. I guess room service must have missed out on this. My hair was straight and none of my friends had curly brown hair so it was definitely not ours :) Otherwise the room was clean.

Room Tip: tower view is quieter. cheaper too. but internet can be slow

Many excellent staff around at all times. Wonderful location and pool is very good. Duty manager was wonderful when I had a problem with my room. I really liked the beach side however I really don't understand why they have nailed the windows shut! It's like being in prison. I hope they sort this out as listening to the sea and getting some fresh air would make things so much nicer. The tower block has balconies however the block is seperated from the beach side by a busy road in between and so road noise would be a problem when sitting out. Pool bar too expensive.

Room Tip: For air use tower side with balcony if you don't mind road noise. Saw rooms on both sides and bo...

Its a well established and unassuming hotel providing the basic beach hotel facilities. The rooms were spacious and the standard room on the beach wing was a nice size with two spacious double beds . Recommend to stay at beach wing versus the Tower hill block . Beds were comfortable and we stayed during the Olympics so it was a blessing that the TVs had many satellite channels . Bathrooms need upgrading though as it looked a bit jaded .

The location of this hotel is really strategic as its within walking distance to highly recommended Long Beach hawker centre (10 mins away) , close to local restaurants offering Thai, Western and local food . The main road in front of hotel also hosts a "pasar malam" or "night bazaar market" selling mostly touristy stuff which you are advise to bargain.

For those craving fast food - McDonalds (look for Petronas Petrol station) and KFC are within a 10 minute walk . I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone . Feels like home away from home.

Only downside is that swimming pool is a bit small and the parking on the Beach wing is limited (can park across the road at the Holiday Inn Tower Block )

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the Beach Wing - pay that little extra - its worth it.

I stayed with my wife and my two kids in a double room, overlooking the hill, in the tower building for three nights. I liked almost everything in the hotel: the room, the balcony, the beach, the breakfast and all of the staff except one. The man was working in the housing keeping. He knocked my door asking for some money. Other than this situation, my stay was perfect.

Room Tip: The tower was newer than the beach side. I recommend staying in the tower.

From the welcome at reception, to the clean clean rooms, to the friendly greetings from the bell hop, doorman, restaurant staff....we had a great time here. Initially we booked for two nights but after the first we were so impressed and made to feel so welcome we extended our stay by one night. As we had booked through the internet initially we did not really qualify for a discounted rate but the manager was very sympathetic to our limited budget and gave us a great rate. Our room was at the end of the hallway on the 22nd floor. Great view! As a Priority Club Member we got a complimentary fruit punch each, a daily newspaper delivered to our door and a later check-out. close to a MacDonalds if you don't want the hotel breakfast, a pharmacy, and the famed night market. All in ALL a great stay. Holiday Inn Resort Penang will see us again!

Room Tip: I followed Tripadvisor reviews and choose the Ferrengi Tower and Sea facing room and was not disappo...
