“Busy pool, geared more for families than couples”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2010

we stayed here for 6 nights as part of a trip around Malaysia and Singapore. Biggest issue I have is not the fault of the hotels but is an issue with the area - you cant use the beach - luckily thanks to trip advisor i knew this before i went but if you hadnt known, it can be a disappointment. Hotel was lovely - pool was smaller than i thought it would be and although there was a kids specific pool, they didnt stay in this one so "adults pool" tended to get quite busy. Not alot of loungers with shade near the pool - they all tended to be out in the lawn area which was too far away from the pool for me. There didnt seem to be any laundry service which was disappointing - a notice said there was washing machine facilities in the basement but thats not my idea of a holiday!! Breakfast was good but to eat in the hotel was quite expensive so we only had lunches there- portions were enormous and more like dinner options than light lunches - you are better off going outside the hotel to eat - much more choice and much cheaper. I would struggle with the 4 star rating of the hotel - rooms Nighttime entertainment was awful (sorry!) but surely the era of the bad singers doing euro pop song covers is over??? ON a plus side- free wifi was great 6 nights was definitely enough -especially without the alternative of the beach to the pool to break things up- i would recommend this as a family resort more than for couples - if i was to go back as a couple, i would go somewhere else in Penang not back to Batu Ferringhi

We stayed here for 3 nights, this was the last leg on our holiday in Malaysia and although the hotel was nice, it certainly wasn't anything special. The rooms (or at least the room we stayed in) appeared old... everything was clean and nice and the bed was huge but some of furniture needed updating. One big problem was noise, we could hear outside noise, including the music / band from the hotel foyer area which echoed loudly in our room to around 1am in the morning. We were also woken in the early hours to some loud chanting - not sure where this was coming from, but it happened several mornings. The breakfast buffet was really, really busy, and seemed a bit disorganised and not the best of buffets due to the volume of people it was feeding. One morning, we were directed upstairs to breakfast (as downstairs was full), which was more pleasant. In terms of the pool it was fairly nice, although busy. It was hard trying to find a seat in the shade and there are a fair few kids around. In terms of location, the hotel is convenient located with the markets outside the entrance in the evenings, and bus stop out the front to get to Georgetown (the hotel also offer a shuttle to Georgetown at a cost, but the bus is cheaper and we thought it was also more convenient, as they come frequently). We got a good last minute deal on this hotel, so it was good value of money, but wouldn't want to pay more.

I stayed with my family and my child last Dec 09. In fact, I stayed every year in Parkroyal Penang as our yearly domestic holiday. The hotel is great, the staff were so friendly, restaurant were terrific...delicious which combined east and western food, 2 large swimming pool, the room is nice and clean.....I will definitely come back to stay at Parkroyal every year.....

We stayed here for 4 nights in sep 2010. I cannot give this hotel enough praise as there was nothing we could fault. The rooms were nice, modern, tastefully decorated and clean. The beds were large and comfortable. The restaurant was excellent and the breakfasts are to die for. What a spread, a great mix of east and western foods to cater for all tastes. The staff were friendly and only too please to help. The pools were great, and with a white sandy beach on your door step and beautiful views it all added to the ambience of this place,c onsidering the size of the hotel. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to any one and intend to come back and have another holiday here.

We really enjoyed our night at the Parkroyal. We decided to live it up and went jet-skiing, got massages, drank alcohol and ate the most expensive stuff on the menu. At the end of it all, our bill still only came to about $350 USD. The location of the hotel is also good (right on the beach and close to the night market) and there are free amenities as well - a nice swimming pool and fitness center, pool table, etc. The Parkroyal is a pleasing blend of East meets West. It celebrates Malaysian culture while also taking pains to ensure that foreigners feel at home.

I have never stayed in a place where the staff are so friendly, helpful and go out of their way to assist your needs. I have dietary problems and once informed of this I receive gluten free food and in particular bread every day. Such a breath of fresh air to know you don’t have to worry about being poisoned by cross contamination of food. (Food with gluten mixed with gluten free). I rate the attention to detail concerning food out of 10, it would be 15. The room was very clean, comfortable and with towels often changed twice a day, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The location was great and the night markets a lot of fun. Olio’s Cafe at the bottom end of town served excellent food at a fraction of the price of other places except the street hawker’s food stands. A very enjoyable holiday and I will defiantly go again and stay in this hotel.
