We have just completed a two week stay at the Bayview. I was initially rather hesitant to make a booking because of some of the negative reviews, but our experience has been completely positive.
We stayed in a de luxe side sea view room on the eighth floor. I had requested a quiet room, and we enjoyed complete peace. Even the jazz festival didn't disturb us.
The room seemed to have been recently refurbished with a sparkling bathroom - separate bath and shower - two really comfortable beds and easy chairs and balcony with table and chairs. Wifi isn't free, but 90 ringitts for two weeks continuous use seemed quite fair to me - especially as the hotel rates are well below others in the area. it worked well too.
We found the pillows to be rather hard on the first night, but asked for replacements, and these were gloriously soft. Also the room safe didn't work when we arrived, but it was fixed immediately.
Bed linen was changed daily, fresh towels offered twice a day and water and a newspaper delivered daily.
The breakfast buffet was delicious and the coffee from the coffee machines as good as I have ever had in a hotel. Rosita (sorry if I've got the name wrong) cleaned our room while we were at breakfast. What a gem!
In fact all the staff seemed to want to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
It was school holidays and the hotel was full of small children with their parents, but this certainly wasn't a problem.
TV was pretty awful - but who comes on holiday to watch TV? For the addicts, it's possible to hire a DVD player to play the pirated movies bought in the night market.
We only ate once in the hotel. Nothing wrong with the food, but with all those fantastic local restaurants it's more satisfying to explore. The Boatman, Fantasy Ribs and Happy Garden are recommended, as is the food court at the top of the night market. The hotel has a free shuttle every night. An evening bout in the well equipped gym meant we didn't put quite as much weight on as I feared.
To sum up - very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are well worth the extra money. Higher rooms seem to be quieter.

We stayed at the hotel to rest and relax. The hotel has facilities for the whole family:
1.Great pool that suit the various types of swimmers (pool depth ranged from 1.25m, 1.5m, 1.6m and 4m)
2. Garden to laze around (facing the sea)- we enjoyed the reflexology and traditional massage. (Would be better if there's less ants)
3. Recreation room for the kids (foosball table was great for the family)- there's arcade games, PS3, etc...
4. Wide variety of Buffet spread for breakfast
5. Availability of good (and cheap) meal venues outside the hotel as well as the mini-market and money changer
6. 10-15 min walk to the nightmarket (and good food)- you don't get the noise bothering you
7. for sporty families, there are tennis, table tennis, basketball and 5-a-side football facilities...

We spent most of the time enjoying the facilities. However, the public beach just outside the hotel is not suitable for a good swim...though you can still enjoy the water-based activities.
If you are into shopping malls, you may have to travel about 40 mins to Gurney Drive...you will need to negotiate with the taxi driver. Check with the conscierge for the 'acceptable/market' rates. There is a taxi stand located just outside the hotel. Alternatively, the local public bus is cheaper and is quite frequent.

One recommendation for the hotel: do install cable TV in the rooms (Astro channels preferred).

We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the hotel and the friendly staff....

Room Tip: ask for higher floors to escape the noise from the road. request for sea view to enjoy the view.

The hotel is located about an 45mins from the main town area. Mum and i were there for 2 nights and looking for some R&R so did not mind the distance to Georgetown... only went there once during our stay.
Hotel itself is not new, but clean. I stayed at bayview melaka in June and found both hotels well maintained. Staff were polite and helpful.
Room we had was huge. Beds and pillows were firm and comfortable.. which is a real plus for me (personal preference.. soft beds and fluffy pillows give me backaches).
Breakfast buffet was ok. However, mum was here last year and thinks the buffet spread was the same. Some variety might be nice?

Thank you for your positive comments on our hotel's services and I am pleased that you and your mum enjoyed your recent stay with us.

We strive to give sincere and friendly service to our guests and we have been constantly complimented with excellent customer services from guests of different nationalities.

We are pleased that you like our King Koil collection of spine support sleep product which endorses the virtue of a firm bed. As to your mother’s comments over the buffet breakfast, we offer a variety of items to cater to our differing local and international guests and have a rotating menu that we update from time to time.

It was a pleasure to have been of service to you and we look forward to your return again.

This was our third stay at Batu Feringgi but our first at Bay View Beach. We travelled with our best friends who had not been on a long haul holiday before. They loved it & of course so did we. You couldn't fault the Hotel, check in was quick, reception staff welcoming, lobby very impressive even though it's dated. Think we'd been upgraded because we were on the top floor with a huge bed. All rooms have a balcony, nice to sit & have drink together in the evening & talk about our day & watch the monkeys go down the wires across the road. Didn't need the telly for entertainment. We slept well, no street noise & air con very efficient. Breakfasts were delicous, so much choice. We were always greeted by all staff in a friendly way. Gardens & pool area are beautiful. Beach is as said before but still lovely to walk along. We weren't hastled by the water sport boys, a polite no thankyou is all it takes. Just along the beach to the left is a bar, good for lunch & a cold beer. We paid 7 myr for a can. Probably the cheapest along the beach. Across the road is a money changer & internet, very helpful when we had a problem with one of our cameras. There is also a supermarket, taxi rank & the Enca restaraunt. Had a couple of good Indian meals here. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the night markets but it was only a short stroll to get there. On the way back in the evenings we would stop & get our beers, water & bits from the supermarket called Galaxy. It's run by a charming Indian family. They also sell Tee shirts & souvenirs, we bought quite a bit from here as the tee shirts were good quality & fairly priced. You can also get your washing done here very cheap. Also we bought from David who has a stall just before you get to Galaxy, he is just about the last stall on the way back to the hotel. We booked this holiday through Thomsons taylor made, we knew where we wanted to go & when & kept looking on line. The prices of the flights are live & the day we booked the cost had gone down. We paid around £1,100 pp for 13 nights b&b flying with Malaysia Airlines & transfers included. What is it about Batu Feringgi? It's everything. The people are the friendliest, the food is delicious & cheap. It's just so relaxing we didn't want to leave. Thankyou to all the people we met & talked to. We will be back.

Stayed at the Bayview Beach Resort in Batu Ferringhi, Penang on a company trip from 18 to 19 November 2011.

The resort is located a good 45 minutes from Penang Airport. This is if there are no traffic jams along the way. The traffic through Georgetown can be really horrendous according to some of my colleagues who drove to the resort.

There are only three lifts leading up to the rooms, and they were all extremely SLOW. The carpeted walls in the lifts were rather dated and didn't look like they have been cleaned for a long time. The room given to us was a pretty good size one, though the first thing we noticed upon entering the room was its rather musty smell. We had to open the doors to the balcony to air it out before it got better.

The bathroom was rather large and modern, with separate shower and bath facilities. Water pressure was great and hot water very sufficient. Complimentary toiletries consisted of two tiny bottles of something which I couldn't make out as the printing on the bottles were really bad.

The room had a rather nice view of the sea, an empty fridge, clean sheets, an LCD TV with very limited international channels (see picture) and a safe which didn't work. It was probably not plugged in or the battery was flat. Repeated attempts at pressing the buttons in accordance with the instructions on how to set it up failed to produce any resemblance of a response. We didn't bother with calling for help as we were rushing off for lunch and an event at the function room.

The function room on the same floor as the lobby had the same musty smell from our room - the carpet seriously needs a good shampoo. Some colleagues were sneezing and had their noses all blocked up because of the air in the function room. Food served by the resort was pretty good, though it seemed every other dish was a curry. That, however, was probably more the fault of the organisers (us) rather than the resort's.

We had our company dinner and dance at the Crystal Ballroom and boy was it a disaster. The sound system was horrible. We couldn't make out what the emcees were saying at all. The resort staff present were totally helpless. To make matters worse, the air-conditioning didn't work very well. We were not suffocating, but it got more and more stuffy as the night went on. The resort staff told us one of the air-conditioner transformer broke down and there is nothing they could do. Unacceptable! The result was everybody sweating profusely under their costumes (yes, it was a themed dinner and dance).

This air-conditioning problem seemed to extend to the resort's gym, it was really stuffy! It has very basic equipment and some free weights, a few stationary bikes and one treadmill. Big fluffy towels are available and the gym opens from 7am daily (according to the sign at the door) - all rather good for a resort gym, if only they can get the air-conditioning fixed.

One of our colleagues had a family emergency on the second day and needed to get back to Kuala Lumpur as soon as possible. He sought the help of the concierge to see what is the first available flight out. The concierge made a phone call, told him there was no answer and then stood there, unable to offer anything else or suggest any other means of obtaining the information. We had to track down another colleague with an iPad, found the number to an airline with flights from Penang to KL that day and make the arrangements ourselves. The concierge merely offered us a piece of paper to write down the details - great help he was!

The sum of all the negatives made this a rather bad experience at the resort, not gonna go back.

Thank you for the write-up you have posted on Tripadvisor regarding your recent stay with us. We appreciate comments that help us enhance our standards.

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused over the lift service during our peak season. We have made available the 3 service lifts, making it a total of 6 lifts accessible for guests usage. A signage pointing out the extra 3 service lifts is placed at the lift lobby to reduce waiting time & crowding during busy periods.

Regarding your company function held here, your main organiser had written to us as follows: “On behalf of the LxxxxNexxx Sports and Recreation Committee, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to you and your team at Bayview Beach Resort for the excellent hospitality and assistance rendered during our recent company trip and annual dinner. The feedback received thus far from our employees has been positive and the overall ambience of the hotel premises including the beachfront activities were pleasurable.” We regret that the organiser and ourselves were not aware of your dissatisfaction notwithstanding the unexpected breakdown of our transformer which had indeed affected the efficiency of our air-conditioning at the Ballroom. We have since replaced the defective transformer with a brand new one to ensure reliable efficiency of our electricity supply for many years into the future.

I sincerely apologise for our concierge lack of attention & service during your colleague’s much needed assistance which should have been provided without any problem and I appreciate your taking the time to write in which allow us to address the various shortcomings in our delivery process, helping us to ensure we deliver good service to all our guests.

Once again thank you for your input and we hope you will give us another chance to redeem ourselves. As such, I look forward to welcoming you back to the Bayview Beach Resort when you next return to Penang.
