“A most enjoyable and relaxing stay!!”
Reviewed 22 August 2012

Looking for a long weekend break in Penang, we spent a lot of hours researching where to stay. We finally decided on LONE PINE Hotel as it seemed to have the facilities we wanted for ourselves and two teenage children but not to be too big like many of the other hotels along the beach front. The staff were very friendly and efficient upon our check-in. We were shown to our rooms which both had sea views. So clean and tidy; lots of space, fantastically comfortable beds, soft towels, immaculate bathrooms....I could go on. We have stayed at different resorts across S.E.Asia and this has been the best to date.
The hotel is right on the busy main street but you would not know it once inside...so peaceful and quiet.
We enjoyed our buffet breakfasts and also some other lunches and dinners there. We found the food served was tasty and good-sized portions.
The site has security which is an added bonus.
The staff were helpful at all times and very courteous. I would particularly like to commend one of the breakfast waiters, I do not know his name, who was serving at the early time of 6.30.
Even after being up all night and working alone, his standard of service was impeccable!!!
My daughter and I has treatments at the Spa which were luxurious.

All-in-all, I would recommend this hotel very highly.
Thank you again to all the staff who made our stay such a memorable and happy one!!!
We hope to make a return visit.

Dear Sally 152_12,

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia's Premier Boutique Beach Resort.

We are so delighted to see such a fantastic review from you. It is our mission to offer the best services to all our guests and it looks like we have managed just that for you and your family.

It seems that the designer of the hotel has also done justice as many guests like yourself have found the rooms to be beautiful, comfortable and practical. Nevertheless, we are always challenging ourselves on how we can make it even better.

We hope that we will get to see you again on your next holiday trip and wish you and your family a wonderful year ahead.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

We enjoyed this hotel right from the moment we stepped inside. Staff were well trained and very kind and attentive. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard.
The restaurant provided a very good breakfast and there is an excellent buffet dinner on friday and saturday nights. Facilities are excellent and well maintained. Shame that the beach outside is so rough, but the pool is a lovely relaxing area to use instead. The spa is the only thing I would criticise, although the staff are very attentive, I did not feel that they offered value for money. Manicure and pedicure was not a great standard, they didn't even attempt to remove the rough skin from my feet and the massage was also only ok, not as good as the price i paid!
Apart from the spa I have nothing to criticise, it was a great hotel.

Room Tip: the rooms facing the sea in the main building have all been refurbished.

Dear Julie B,

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia's Premier Boutique Beach Resort.

We are so delighted that you have enjoyed your stay with us but most of all is that we have managed to meet and exceeded your expectations on our product and services. The kitchen especially will be delighted to learn that you have found the food to be most satisfying. The Chefs always get a "High" when they learned that someone really appreciate their hard work.

However, it seems that I can't say the same thing about your experience at the Spa as this is the only service in the hotel that we out sourced to a third party. Please accept my apologies on behalf of the Spa management. I have forwarded this review to the Spa owner and have advised her to look into this matter seriously as it does reflect on the hotel image and services.

Thank you again for a fantastic review and we wish you a wonderful year ahead.

Kind regards,
Khoo Boo Lim

We wanted a quiet and peaceful weekend away from our overcrowded city and this place is just perfect! The hotel is excellent in every aspect and the best thing is there are no loud, noisy tour groups and screaming kids running around. The free Japanese dinner that came with our booking was also better than expected. The free minibar that was promised was empty, but I'm sure if we had asked it would be filled by the obliging staff (we just didn't bother with sugared drinks). To go to Georgetown, the hotel has 4 daily trips on their shuttle bus (needs booking) or just take public bus no. 101 outside the hotel (costs only RM2+).

Room Tip: Our booking came with a free upgrade and the upgraded room was pretty large with a beautiful bathtub...

Dear Zia_Vene,

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia's Premier Boutique Beach Resort.

Thank you very much for your kind review and we are glad that we have managed to meet your expectations of a quiet and relaxing stay. However, even though you did not mind about our over sight for the complimentary drinks in the mini bar, I must apologize for this and appreciate your kind understanding on this.

In fact it is a good point about the sugar part as I have asked my staff to source some options that contains less or none of it.

Thank you very much and wishing you a wonderful year ahead.

Kind regards,

Great hotel with genuine goodservice. Bath on the balcony was an added surprise to the spacious room that was very tastefully decorated. I appreciated all the little details like the two sarongs we could use as well as two, pairs of beach slippers. Even the bath products were of great quality. Just outside the hotel is a pasar malam with hawkerstalls with all kinds of delicious food. Breakfast at the hotel is one not to be missed. Beach was long enough to have anice long walk. Hotel has a very nice pool as well for a more quiet moment.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 3rd floor, ask for a room in the block with sea view.

A modern decor within a colonial exterior. Our room was spacious, light and comfortable with a good sea view. It's a big enough hotel to have all the facilities we needed but small enough to give that personal touch. The General Manager, Guido came up to introduce himself and we felt that if we had a problem (we didn't), he'd be there to sort it out. The staff were generally helpful and attentive.
The food is good - they do an awesome Penang Kuay Teow even though it's much cheaper if you wander out to the food stalls, and we had a nice Japanese meal at Matsu.
Would go back if we were to return to Batu Ferringhi but have to say that the area has got far too developed and commercialised for us now since our last visit in 2000.

No issue with the services. Staffs are friendly and attentive. A quiet hotel facing the sea and away from crowds. Went for swim, laze in the jaccuzzi pool and rest on a hammock. Fantastic! Would really want to try the sea sports if time permits. Their sea sports staffs are friendly and patient to explain the activities and not pushy at all. Breakfast is okay. It could be better if the dishes are changed everyday.
Room is spacious enough and come with a mini bathtub at the balcony which is excellent to just laze in there. The beverages are all FOC.
Lone Pine hotel is almost 30min away from Georgetown so transportation to & fro may be a hassle. Bus cost RM2.70 while cab is around RM40-50. Definitely no regrets choosing Lone Pine over Golden Sands which located just beside it.

Room Tip: Choose high floor for great view of the sea & beach

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia's Premier Boutique Beach Resort.

We are so delighted to know that you have enjoyed your stay with us and that we have managed to meet or exceeded your expectations in our services. It is even more satisfying for us to learn that you have decided to pick our property over your normal hotel accommodation choice in Batu Feringgi.

We do have a wide selection for our breakfast but we have taken note of your comment and already advised our kitchen department to further improve on it. I hope you will give us another opportunity to come experience our spread when you visit Penang again.

Thank you again and we wish you a pleasant and productive year ahead.

I judge hotels on the standards they set themselves and I don't give five stars easily. Last week I gave three stars to the Swiss Garden in Kuantan. Well managed but starved of investment and half the price of the Lone Pine. This week, I give five stars to an excellent hotel that is suitably priced (and by that I mean it's the second most expensive hotel on the beach but by no means prohibitive).

It has to be acknowledged up front that the staff here are great. They are attentive without being obsequious. They smile without it being forced. On our second day, after a storm, we returned to our loungers by the pool and the towel guy was already there with four fresh towels. They bring chilled flannels and iced water around. At check in we were brought fruit juice. Whenever you pass a member of staff here they smile. At breakfast and during the day they come round and check everything is all right. It's not a big hotel and it feels very personal.

So, the room. We were on the second floor overlooking the pool and sea and you get a balcony with an outdoor stone bath to relax in that gets the sun into the evening. The room has soft drinks included in the fridge, fruit and biscuits one day, sarongs to wear if you dare and flip-flops to take home. Amenities like toothbrushes and (admittedly somewhat painful disposable) razors already supplied in case you forgot yours. Evidently recently refurbished, the room cannot be complained about. During the turndown service they leave water bottles next to the bed.

Breakfast is the second best I've had in MY (well, beating the Mandarin Oriental in KL is difficult) and I have to thank them for the quality of the beef and chicken sausages. Sausages so often in MY are processed chicken frankfurters with no resemblance to meat. Breakfast here is great. The staff, again, clear your used plates unobtrusively as soon as you're done with them and check everything is all right.

The free wifi worked fine for us in the room and by the pool. We FaceTimed the UK over wifi from the pool. Fun. The grounds are neat and there's discrete security at the gates to the beach. On the beach you can find all sorts of water activities. We went jet-skiing twice. The jet-skiing guy didn't have RM20 change when we went out. We wrote it off. He found us four hours later and returned it. That's Malaysia.

This hotel was recommended to me by colleagues at work (Astro). And I fully recommend it to you.

Dear Tarichard,

Sunshine Greetings from Malaysia's Premier Boutique Beach Resort.

It is just simply fantastic to read such a review. You just made our day for all of us here at Lone Pine Hotel. This definitely is another review that i will post up in our associates notice board so that they realize what they have achieved and can do even better in time to come.

We are so glad that you appreciate some of our unique touches in our services and product and taken note of those that need some improvement. I am sure you have mastered the skill of putting on the sarong but to ensure it doesn't drop off easily I would recommend that you make more visits back to the hotel. Hahaha....I am just kidding.

Anyway, please let me convey on behalf of everyone here our deepest appreciation for your kind and positive comments and we look forward to see you again soon.

Kind regards,
