As a local, I love this hotel and it's not just because there's a beach. I love the environment and the architecture of the building. I also love the service they provide you. It can be a romantic place for couples and also a place for family to just relax.

Folks, it is what you make of it. The concierge Mr. Balan was so very helpful with guiding us during our stay of three days. He made our stay memorable and we wished we could have stayed longer. He told us places we could visit on the island the the taxis were affordable. Tip these guys well. The room we stayed at over looked the beach on the second floor and it was all we could ask for. Our 8 yr. old son thought the world of the room and the hotel. He called it paradise and did we. It was quiet as we were there during the second week of Aug. 2014. The restaurant's food was good during breakfast. The service during lunch and dinner was a bit slow and we were hungry. The pool was wonderful. It was wonderful at night with flames lighting along the pool. Stay on the beach by the hotel at night just to be safe. There are vendors during the day who will try to get you to purchase a jet ski ride etc. Though I am an Asian Indian from the US, I did not speak Tamil and I do believe he swore at me when I turned him down for a jet ski ride. I was more protective of my wife and son and walked away shaking my head. There is a nice gift shop that has knick knacks. The night market has lots of genuine fakes. There is a great night restaurant with various food hawkers and sit down tables. The food is exceptionally cheap and good. Visit the hotel and the island with a very open mind and be expect the unexpected. The hotel personnel are wonderful and caring so give them a chance and do not snap your fingers.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the beach.

We were here for a family wedding. Not mentioning all the mistakes that were made with regards to the wedding, and the organiser having to be called over as she was too busy on the lawn instead of directing the bride and bridesmaids when to walk the aisle. The carpet had also been forgotten so all our heels sunk into the mud so maybe I should just start from check in. Our room was not ready, despite having the wedding that day, and them being made aware in advance we had a 5 mth old baby. Then tried to direct me to feed my crying baby in the gym?!?! Needless to say, I did no such thing, and using a nursing apron fed my baby discreetly in the reception area, to the impertinent face from one of the staff. When our room was finally ready, in the late afternoon there was no cot. With the wedding to attend we forgot about this and decided to sleep with our baby in the bed to reduce the hassle. The second day our linen was changed, and our babies blanket was taken, despite looking nothing like hotel linen. Of course on asking the staff, this was never found. Our baby who suffers eczema to certain washing powders luckily had a spare muslin we could lay him on. It was then we noticed our bed sheets had tea stains on them, despite us never drinking in the room since arrival. It was questionable the sheets were even clean, as surely a hotel that chooses white linen would launder them well enough to remove tea stains? After my partner called reception and chased them for over an hour he then resorted to having to go to reception himself. Only to be handed a "clean" sheet, covered in what almost looked like wheel marks from a trolley. Which at this time 3am we were no longer going to contest. Their management of any problems are just poor, possibly as their appears to be no management whatsoever. Some of the staff are exceptions and are very friendly, and the rest are just clearly lazy. It's a nice hotel, the layout and outside bath are nice touches, they are spacious. The gym was good, basic stuff, well air conditioned. The breakfast had a fair amount of variety. Flies and ants around are sadly what's to be expected in Malaysia, there were lids etc covering the food though. It would be nice to have diet drinks available in the mini bar fridge. The menu at The Bungalow is quite expensive given what you can get at the hawker, and for better food but that's to be expected in hotels. My parents stayed at the sister hotel Eastern Oriental, it's probably better to stay there and pay for a cheap taxi to visit Batu Ferringhi.

We stayed at the Lone Pine for a week in August (22nd-29th).

The hotel is located directly on the beach front, with the road behind. This is a busy area and, inevitably, there was noise from the night market and nearby bars.

Our room was on the third floor in the main building, directly overlooking the pool. The room was large and well-appointed and there was still room to move despite the addition of an extra bed.

I was surprised/horrified to find that there were no pillow protectors used - the pillows on my bed were stained and there were small black spots of mould. The exchanged pillows were still stained, and still minus protectors. Additionally, there was no mattress protector on the rollaway bed. In a hotel of this standard, this is unacceptable.

Apart from that, the standard of room cleanliness was very good.

The bathroom was big, the walk in shower offered a choice of shower heads, and the water pressure was good. Occasionally, the water temperature could be reduced, presumably due to the volume of use.

The downside of the room was that the mirror for hair-drying etc was located in the bathroom, this often caused delays.

The balcony was lovely, with views through trees of the sea, and direct views of the pool. The bathtub on the balcony was great fun, but we only used this twice.

Breakfast was taken in the 'bungalow' -an indoor/outdoor area, and this tended to be slightly troubled by flies as a result. There was a good variety of choice, waffles and eggs were cooked to order. The temperature of some of the dishes was mainly 'lukewarm'.

The air-conditioning in our room worked infrequently, and I was disappointed that this was never really rectified despite several discussions with staff.

The pool area was lovely and well-maintained. The main pool was large, approximately 20 metres in length, it never appeared to be overly busy. There was a separate pool for children - this was closed for a day to allow for maintenance.

There were some excellent members of staff, Selvi from housekeeping, for example, was delightful. However, sometimes some of the staff seemed disinterested.

Room Tip: A higher room in the main building gives the best sea views.

Everything about this hotel is just great! checked in for 4 nights and our kids love the pool and the direct access to the beach! Breakfast is standard, also love the japanese restaurant but couldn't remmeber the name.

recommend walking at night there's just a typical night market outside the hotel just like what we had back in Bangkok. love this place and will surely return! Great staff services too!

Room Tip: our room came with obstructed view but for Ringit$700 i think it's fine. try to ask for higher f...

We stayed in lone pine for 3 nights. The hotel and room is nice, the surrounding vey relaxing and also the beach is just right in front of the hotel. The night market is also just outside the hotel and nice food can be found at the hawker at great prices. The breakfast in the hotel however is only average in my view and I expect more from a hotel like lone pine. Overall, an enjoyable and fun stay in lone pine.

Stayed Lone Pine hotel from 24th of Aug 2014 for 2 nights. I emailed the hotel before the trip to assign nice view room for anniversary and replied from them assigned sea view room but almost all of them are sea view room. And checked hotel room assigned first floor therefore, asked to change 3rd floor to avoid any of noice. Unfortunately, pool maintainance horriblely to show the place for whole staying. second day nobody, nothing to do around the pool area...thats why I really disapointed. The hotel is not big and hotel pool kind of main facility however, half of them cannot use even taped around there. Also usually very few people at bar and restaurant(Matsu).
They didnt delivery newspaper for first time because of room change. The facility itself very beautiful but the hotel staff have to make more effort to maintain good service and quality. Its really dissapointed as I expected too much because of their reputation.
