After spending a week in the jungle we spent a week at Hopkins Inn. Was nice to have A/C and a TV when we wanted to stay in our room. Was a little disappointed that there wan't any beach for swimming or snorkeling. We did a great fishing trip with a wonderful guide -Lloyd and his son. The best was the hand squeezed orange juice every morning. Food was great and really enjoyed riding bikes up and down the town of Hopkins.

Room Tip: They all looked like they were excellent, if you want to listen to the ocean be sure and get a room...

Our beach bungalow faced the ocean and it was wonderful every morning to hear the waves along the shore and see the sunrise. It is a very tranquil place located in Hopkins village and walking distance to local restaurants. Rita and Greg are perfect hosts. They provided breakfast that consisted of various fruits and breads with cheese that you can eat inside your room or out on the porch facing the beautiful Caribbean Ocean.

The room rates are very reasonable compared to other hotels on the outskirt of Hopkins which I consider too touristy for my taste. I enjoy staying and being around the local people to hear their life stories and experiences. Hopkins Inn is a great location to start and end your day after snorkeling in the Caribbean or going on a jungle excursion.

We are an active couple in our late sixties who do not take holidays which are organized tours or cruises. This for us is the perfect location to enjoy direct access to unspoiled beach (with the odd siting of the brown hump of a manatee!) and wander through the village of Hopkins where the local food is plentiful and good and the people are helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our conversations with Rita when she brought us a breakfast of fresh fruit and local breads. Rita also connected us with local businesses for a boat trip to the reef for some excellent snorkeling as well as two opportunities to venture to inland jungle, firstly to see macaws in their natural environment and secondly to zip line. The cabanas are small (and may be a bit stuffy in very hot weather) but are self contained with a fridge and a coffee maker and include a front porch facing the beach perfect for relaxing and catching up on leisurely reading. There is a well stocked grocery store within easy walking distance for all life's necessities.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two cabanas closest to the beach.

We just returned from one week at Hopkins Cabanas. Yes this is paradise. Every night you fall asleep and wake up to the waves. I don't think I've ever been so relaxed. The rooms have everything you need. I recommend renting a bike as it's hot and makes it easier to explore the town. Get to know the local people they're amazing. Hopkins Cabanas are right in the middle of the village so easy access to everything. Greg and Rita are amazing people who care about the local people and their guests. You could spend a lot of money at one of the fancy resorts at either end of town but why would you. This is paradise at Hopkins.

We visited Hopkins Inn again this February, 2014, and were delighted to discover it had lost none of its charm. What a wonderful oasis in the midst of Hopkins Village. Four cabanas on a sandy beach very close to the Caribbean Sea, two smaller ones, a mid-size one and a larger cabana where the owners, Rita and Greg, used to live before building their own residence at the entrance to the compound. (It is always good to have the owners living amongst the guests.)
All the cabanas are built to stand the test of time. Each has a verandah suitable for a sun-downer, and a comfortable, well-appointed interior. The woodwork of the cathedral-style ceiling is a marvel.
The rooms are cleaned daily and the linens changed on a regular basis. The grounds are well kept, with particular attention to the shore-line which the unruly sea litters with flotsam and jetsam from time to time.
Greg and Rita are fantastic hosts, friendly and ever-willing to share their extensive knowledge of the Village with their guests.
At the top of the list of perks provided at the Inn is the delectable continental breakfast prepared by Greg and Rita and served by Rita herself on the verandah of your cabana. Every day she serves something a little different from the morning before but each breakfast always presents fresh breads, a medley of fruits (papaya, banana, pineapple, kiwi etc), perhaps a hard-boiled egg or a measure of cheese served with freshly-squeezed orange juice. What a way to start the day at this tried, tested and true Hopkins Inn.

Hopkins Inn is a jewel of a place to stay in a wonderful setting. Our neat and clean cabana had two rooms, bath, a kitchen table, coffee pot, and fridge. Just what one needs in tropical country. The entire property is a sandy beach with ample Adirondacks for sitting by the gentle waves day or night. There are only four cabanas on the property so one can socialize quite easily with the other travelers One is just a couple of blocks from the center of town with local eateries and bars. The sound of waves and ocean winds just meters from your room is a perfect sleeping potion. To top it all off, Rita brings you breakfast of fruit, bakery and juice to your veranda each morning. Rita and Greg are extremely nice and helpful. Our whole experience here was more that we had hoped for. In fact we are returning this same year for a week.

Room Tip: All the cabanas are perfect.

I just came back in mid February from a roaming voyage of Belize and explored almost all of the country. Hopkins Inn was one of only 2 places that I had reserved - as I like to let my adventures and travel have a serendipitous spirit. After arriving at Hopkins Inn - I was so happy I had booked a cabana on the beach in advance because the place is idyllic perfection - and limited to 4 cabanas.
I was warmly greeted by one of the owners - Rita - a German woman who runs the place along with her partner Greg. We had a arrived a bit early for check-in, so Rita suggested we have some breakfast at Thongs, a little cafe just in town off the dusty main road in Hopkins run by a lovely Italian woman. Breakfast was great with excellent quiche, coffees, fruits and egg dishes.

Upon return we were given a single key on a carabiner keychain (no fuss decorations or logoed name or bling here) to our simple and spectacular cabana about 100 feet from the Caribbean Sea. The place delivers just enough creature comforts to not want or need anything, yet a surrounding and amenities to make you ask why we all don't live this simply yet satisfying.
The cabana was warm, clean and tidy with a full hot water bathroom and shower and a small kitchenette with coffee bar and refrigeration.

In the mornings when Rita sees anyone on their private decks off each of the cabanas, she sweetly and gently will come by and say good morning while asking is you are ready for breakfast. After a resounding "yes!" about 20 minutes later she appears with a tray of fresh juices, fruits and local pastries that are delicious with cream cheese and jellies served on the side. This is quite the deal considering the cabana we reserved was $69 US a night ($138 Belize) and that included breakfast.

If you are looking for a quite, simple yet spectacular place to explore a true Belizean coastal town that is actually a very unchanged Garifuna fishing village - you can't do better than Hopkins Inn. The Owners Rita and Greg are very sweet natured and well respected in the area - filled with knowledge and stories of hoe the place came to be.

Don't hop to Hopkins Inn, run. But do make a reservation because if they are out of cabanas when you arrive, you are out of luck.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms and only 4 cabanas
