My wife and I stayed 8 days and nights at Tipple Tree Beya in Hopkins, Belize. The location of Tipple Tree in Hopkins is perfect - close to restaurants, bicycle rentals, and diving tours, yet out of the center of Hopkins to avoid night noise of music, unless you want to participate.

Tipple Tree is very clean and well kept. The room was perfect for my wife and I, with a small table for writing and posting blogs on our laptop. When reading, we spent most of our time in the comfortable hammocks or beach chairs, enjoying the view of the Caribbean, the shade of the palms, and the cool breeze. In addition to relaxing, we rented bikes which are perfect for getting around all of Hopkins. We rode to restaurants in the morning and to the marina for kayak rental and diving.

Tricia is a wonderful hostess, with loads of information on local restaurants, diving, kayaking, and tours to local reserves and ruins (such as Cockscomb Jaguar reserve). Doug keeps the grounds beautiful, with manicured white sand under palms and beautiful flowers. The beach is always clean and wonderful for swimming (and very safe).

You will not beat the price for paradise anywhere! The value for cost is unbelievable. We will go back in a heartbeat and recommend Tipple Tree to everyone seeking relaxation and adventure in the tropics. (Note: have repellent on hand in case the wind stops - the tiny flies will bite you, but this is true everywhere in the tropics.)

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent, although we preferred the rooms facing the beach because the breeze is...

We recently spent 5 days at Tippel Tree Beya. Our room was a comfortable, clean room looking out onto the Caribbean. The beach is impeccably maintained with chairs placed out for use. We could get some sun when we wanted, but also could sit in the shade when it got too hot. I love to bird watch and enjoyed seeing the parrots in the cashew trees or the hummingbirds in the flowers. You are close to all the restaurants and shops, but far enough from the busy part of the village that you don't get all the noise. I saw other reviews complaining about barking dogs, but I found it not to be bad at all. The rooms are reasonably priced and of a good value.

Beautiful white sand beach!! The water is warm here and has a soft sandy bottom with a very shallow slope into the water that you can walk out into for a long way. Protected by the barrier reef there are no breakers on the beach, just a beautiful place to swim. One of the few natural sand beaches in Belize without sea grass growing along the shoreline. There is a Palapa with a nice table and chairs as well as palm trees, Adirondack Chairs, beach chairs, table and lounger. There is also a full deck with table and chairs. We were in the first floor of the Cocoplum (2 floors) which is right next door to the Tipple Tree Beya and is now owned and managed by Tricia Sturman and Doug from Tipple Tree. The first floor of the Cocoplum is a complete beautiful home with 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, full kitchen, eating area, living room, 2 couches and a TV. The kitchen has a full sized refrigerator w freezer, stove, oven double sink, microwave and tile floor. The kitchen table seats 6. This set up is ideal for us as two couples traveling together, we each had a private bedroom and private bathroom. Tricia was absolutely wonderful and she helped us with suggestions. She is also responsive to email questions and was eager to help during our stay. She arranged a taxi for us from Dangriga, connected us with Noawell and Biggie for an amazing snorkel trip to the barrier reef at south water caye, suggested restaurants cuisine, prices, she rents bicycles, suggested places to kayak - we kayaked Sittee river, hikes, car rental, night life etc. The main feature here is the amazing beach, warm water, live coral reef, plentiful tropical fish, a comfortable home like setting, with expert trip guidance from Tricia. If you are coming from the United States and want an authentic Belizean experience, Hopkins Village and Cocoplum is the place to stay. This home is actually in the village where you can walk to restaurants and eat good local food. It is clean and comfortable, the people of Hopkins are still friendly to tourists. If you want to have a Hilton style vacation go to Hawaii, Belize does not have that kind of vacation right now. Remember that in a developing country that you will see some poverty, have a little less water pressure, and find unpaved roads. But what it has is a wonderful unspoiled barrier reef, and many opportunities for adventure vacations. If you want the best snorkeling ever, local flavor, real people, a laid back experience and an amazing beach this is for you.

Room Tip: The first floor of the Cocoplum has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms full kitchen and living room and opens o...

We stayed in the newer apartments on our first trip to Belize's best kept beach secret! The apartments are really nice with comfortable beds and a well appointed kitchen/breakfast room, with everything you need if you want to do some self catering to stretch the budget. But telly addicts will have to go cold turkey - so bring a good book or a laptop! (Although I think the big apartment may have a TV.)

The big breezy balcony affords a perfect view of the palm and sea grape lined beach and the ocean beyond - well worth the drive down the mud road - which looks as though it might, in any case, be in the process of being paved. There is also a great restaurant right next door and a supermarket a rather longer walk away for the self-caterers.

We loved it here and will definitely be back! !

Insiders tip: next time we'll try to reserve the northerly apartment which looks out onto only trees and beach, without having to pass the rather scruffy house next door!

A stunningly beautiful stretch of beach and very well kept garden and facilities. We stayed at room no. 1 with an outdoor shower. We were pleasantly surprised with comfy mattresses and pillows, cleanliness and especially with the shower. It's only a few steps from the backdoor of your room and by far the best we came across in Belize. The beach here is excellent for swimming and there are a few decent dining options nearby. Actually what is probably the best dining in Hopkins, Sandy Beach Restaurant run by a women's co-operative, is only fifty meters down the beach. Would have given it five stars if the veranda wasn't shared between three rooms. Still excellent and fantastic value.

Room Tip: Room no. 1 has windows on two sides for more air and natural light, and having a shower outdoors wit...

2 couples, lifetime friends shared a fabulous ocean front apartment, the Cocoplum. Tricia, our innkeeper was fantastic! She did everything possible to make our vacation a dream come true! She arranged taxi, provided immaculate housing,(with environmentally sustaining practices) suggested activities, hooked us up with Noawell & Bigge for snokeling, bikes, assisted with car rental, and generally made sure we were happy & safe. The people in Hopkins were friendly, happy to talk, share stories and their culture with us. We loved our time and hope to return soon.

This was the first place we stayed in Belize, and we loved it. The hosts are helpful and friendly, the location is great, and you can't beat the sunrises from the hammock in front of your room. The rooms are clean and well kept, and the whole place has a cared for feel about it.
Highly recommended.
