Five stars doesn't even do this hotel justice. My husband Mykel and I just returned from 6 days here for our honeymoon and we hope to return! We stayed in a suite, and although it was far away--we loved every second of it. The convenience of the wonderful staff picking us up in a golf cart whenever we needed made it seem like we were close to everything. Keep in mind If you want to be closer--they have plenty of rooms located right by everything--just ask for one.

We liked the secluded part of it, and since it was during their down "rainy" season (yes it did rain everyday!! But we embraced it, and hey it's only water so whats the worst it can do right? and it will only rain in either the morning or afternoon for an hour or two and clear right up!) we felt like we were alone in the resort, and even more pampered. The staff is WONDERFUL. Completely what we were looking for on our honeymoon. So Romantic!

They had so many activities and things to do at the resort, we suggest the sunset kayak tour, or the bay cruise! We saw whales, sting rays, turtles, and so much more! The tour of the giants was also incredible, we would suggest that too!

The hotel was incredibly clean, and the housekeepers and turndown service was excellent. Exactly what you would expect at a Four Seasons! :)

We had a beautiful honeymoon here, and although we were in Costa Rica for two weeks only half was stayed at Four Seasons, we wished we had never left to our next destination!!!! The worse part was we could see the four seasons resort from our next hotel (45min drive away) we spoke of the "great escape" from our second hotel every night so we could return to the luxury, relaxation, pampering, and EXCELLENT STAFF that was right across the bay!

We hope to return! PURA VIDA!

The Four Seasons Papagayo was everything a Four Seasons should be. Unbelievable grounds, amazing accommodations, and 5 star service. All of this set on one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. The Peninsula Papagayo is breathtaking. I highly recommend either playing golf or taking the Trail of the Giants tour to see all of the wonderful views the peninsula offers. Also, the snorkel trip on the Goombay catamaran was amazing as it offered wonderful views, as well as the ability to see whales, dolphins, sting ray, turtles....you name it. We had many wonderful servers at Ticos which is the main restaurant/bar right in the middle of the resort. Our favorite was Henry! He took very good care of us and we felt like we made a good friend in Costa Rica. We were so sad to leave Costa Rica, the Four Seasons and all of the wonderful people we met along the way, but we are already trying to plan our return trip. Thank you Four Seasons for making our trip unforgettable.

We just returned from a 4 night stay. We upgraded to a 2 BR suite, but also saw the regular rooms, which were beautiful.
Here are pros:
1. Great amount of activities. We never felt bored. We esp enjoyed the trail of the giants tour. The golf course is so impressive.
2. 90% of the staff were very warm and attentive. Others seemed slightly disengaged (we had just come from Nayara where 100% of the staff bent over backwards and treated us like family, which effected my perception)
3. Golf carts to drive you everywhere were super convenient, esp with a little toddler
4. Suite was very spacious
5. Breakfast buffet is awesome
6. Kids club was well-equipped
7. Spa facilities are beautiful

A few cons:
1. The food is overpriced. The quality just isn't up to par and the pricing is borderline absurd--if this hotel were in London/Tokyo, etc. $20 for a burger is fine, but not Central America.
2. The resort is isolated. We drove 45 min to get groceries and eat at a local restaurant.
3. Our first morning, the boat cruise was canceled after we waited 45 min for the boat, then I run over to mat Pilates which was also canceled. Not the hotel's fault, but don't count on all activities to actually take place. We canceled on the cooking class after we found out it was a demo on making chocolate cookies. We were hoping for something with a more local flavor. So ask in advance to make sure it's what you want.

Overall, I loved the experience and it was an awesome vacation (I highly recommend pairing this hotel with Nayara in Arenal).

I stayed with my wife and two boys ages 11 and 13. We had a great week. We stayed the first week of August so it was the rainy season but like much of this region that only means a bit of rain in the afternoon. It did nothing to our day and the daily excursions or days at the pool were well spent. Food was great. Staff was super. I will be back.

Room Tip: Spend the money to upgrade your room to a villa

WOW ....we were so lucky to be alerted by Guest Relations manager Sara Cadavid to the travel writer's workshop hosted by Four Seasons and travel writer Perry Garfinkle. It was a 3 day workshop, but we were only there for the last day....and now disappointed we missed the first two days. Perry is the writing expert and was there to coax us non-writers into sharing some thoughts on paper. Some exceptional experiences organized by the resort to a local elementary school and lecture by a local chocolate wizard were the jumperstarters for writing inspiration. It was a great way to relax, get a feel for some of the local culture, meet some of the other guests, and excercise your mind at the same time. Hopefully they'll extend this program to some other hotels and resorts, so we can again have Perry attempt to expand our minds and divert our attention from nothingness of laying on the beach (which is very tempting here.)

Room Tip: Not sure about all the room types....we got our hiking in as our room must have been the last on the...

Stayed in a 2 bedroom villa from August 16-24, 2013. The staff and service was above and beyond in every instance. I have nothing but the highest praise for how well this hotel is run. This is a resort that "gets" what service should look like.

I found much of the food in Costa Rica uninteresting. Beans, rice, fish. Nothing wrong with it but lean on flavor. Not so at the FS. Golf course was great with lots of variety and elevation changes. The hotel is on a peninsula at the point it narrows before widening out again, so it's only a few steps to beaches on either side. Rooms were of the same quality you would expect from a FS resort in the US and better than many of their business center properties. I would say this is more often a destination trip since it is away from other towns on the coast. After checking out we got a car at Liberia airrt to visit some of the other coastal towns to the south, like Flamingo and Tamarindo. (The FS is very close to the border of Nicaragua.) Many comments about theft being common, but not much violent crime. Compared to Mexico, the countyside is much more empty and there is less of a sense of cultural history.
