I just returned from a great "rainy season" stay at this resort. What a great time of year to go -- the resort was practically deserted, and we felt like we had it all to ourselves, and the service levels were uncompromised. There was a bit of rain every day, nice warm short bursts of rain that freshened up everything and did nothing to take away from our enjoyment. The staff are friendly and attentive, the grounds and rooms beautiful. We stayed in the least expensive room and it was plenty of space for myself and my two teenage daughters.

The resort has a Teen Room that my girls really enjoyed, with a friendly attendant who was always on spot at all advertised hours even tho my girls were apparently the only teens on the resort.

The resort is wonderful, just this as warning: The resort is far from everything and there is no easy way to dine outside the resort. If you hope to see anything of local culture, or even to taste Costa Rican food, be sure to book outside excursions with Mainor Lara's "Tours Your Way." (find them via Google). As all the reviews will attest, Mainor and his guys are great. You will pay less and do more than if you book a tour through the hotel. Plus, instead of being loaded onto a shuttle with a group of other Four Seasons tourists, you will be in a private car and get special treatment wherever you go, and the option to go off plan if you want. For example, we had Mainor take us out shopping for food and wine, to buy Costa Rican soccer jerseys, and to get the local coffee to bring home.

If you are going to be at the resort for more than a few days, you will really welcome the opportunity to go off site. But in any case, it would be a shame to go all the way to Costa Rica and only see the inside of a Four Seasons Resort, as beautiful and luxurious as it is.

WiFi: You will have to pay $25 a day PER DEVICE for Internet access. The only place where you can get free internet access is in the lobby of the hotel.

We enjoyed our stayed at the Four Seasons. The property is amazing. Beach on both sides! It was a first stay in a real luxury hotel. We were a bit surprised on just how expensive food and drinks were. However, the food and service were truly amazing. Also, everything costs a little extra (i.e. tennis courts, fitness center) with the exception of the beach toys, boogie boards, kayaks, etc. We had a great time there though.

My girlfriend and I spent a week at the FS Costa Rica back in August. While it technically was the rainy season, the first day was really the only day that ended up being a wash. Overall, the hotel is absolutely amazing. From the moment we arrived, the staff was outstanding, everyone was excellent, from the front desk to the housekeepers. Even the small things were taken care of quickly and with a smile. We traveled to the Four Seasons for some time away from it all, and the secluded nature of the resort was perfect. The layout of the pools and style of the pool decks were unique and seemed to blend perfectly with the surrounding environment. Golf was amazing and absolutely worth it, if for nothing else, to see the views and interact with all the wildlife.

The room was absurd. The suite with plunge pool is set up on the hillside and adds to the secluded feeling. As other reviewers have mentioned, there's absolutely no reason to leave the room. I was worried at first due to the golf cart ride to the room, but it's an easy walk down to the resort and a golf cart was never more than a few minutes away if needed. Regardless, we were originally going to stay in a standard room, and after seeing them, we would absolutely come back and stay in one of those (especially to make the trip more economically reasonable).

Other than the room being the best I've ever enjoyed, I want to mention the food/restaurants. As mentioned above, the resort is rather secluded, which can be a problem in regard to dining options when staying at a resort with limited choices. Fortunately, the restaurants at the resort are delicious. There are multiple options ranging from poolside fare to sushi to a steakhouse. We loved every single meal (including our daily breakfast through room service). Don't let the secluded nature of the resort scare you when it comes to dining, as the food at the resort is fantastic.

Overall the resort is a perfect retreat, and it's an easy 2.5 hour flight from Miami (and an easy/enjoyable drive through the countryside from Liberia's airport). Use Tours Your Way for your airport transfer needs and tours. Mainor is great to deal deal with and his prices are great considering what you get (the best part is that you call the shots and can basically make any changes you want on the fly).

The Four Seasons in Costa Rica exceeded all expectations! This is truly a place to come back to as often as possible. Nicely secluded , quite without being stuffy. The staff was exceptional and made you feel so very welcome. Lovely pools, good restaurants and a heavenly spa. I keep thinking of any negatives to mention, and I can think of none...ok it rained one day...

We flew in San Jose and drove the following morning. Not a bad drive, but not one I feel compelled to repeat. Will definitely be flying in and out of Liberia..

I set up an all day tour with Tours Your Way and Alejandro took my family away. While I got more peace and quiet , my husband, daughter and son-in-law had the day of a lifetime. Starting with a fabulous breakfast empanada from a vendor (my husband still dreams about that empanada)... followed by ziplining, horseback riding, river rafting, mud baths and more. Lunch was fit in there as well. The tour was the highlight of the trip for them, and the only casualty was a camera...if you find it in the river let us know!

It would be easy to say that Alejandro was a fabulous tour guide, he is so much more...he was our host in his country and shared it with us. He was knowledgeable, friendly and oh so gracious. Since it was a private tour we were able to go places where groups couldn't always go and frankly the price was very competitive. Would definitely use Tours Your Way every time and ask for our friend Alejandro.

Spent five days here in the "off" season at the end of May and it was one of the best vacations we have ever taken. The hotel staff were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to make your stay memorable. Whether it was cleaning your room while you were at dinner or bringing complimentary popsicles to cool off by the pool, our needs were met before we even realized it! Despite the absolutely gorgeous surroundings and incredible property, the service is what makes this hotel a true gem. Worth every penny!

The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica was simply the best vacation my family has ever taken. My two boys (ages 8 and 11 during our stay) have no desire to travel anywhere else, and I have a hard time arguing against them. I highly recommend this resort to families with young children and teenagers. It's more of an adventure than a vacation, from the monkeys in the trees to the crocodiles in the rivers. The resort itself is set on an incredible location, the food was great, and the service level was outstanding- commensurate with other resorts in the Four Seasons chain. You must tour with Mainor Lara from Tours Your Way; reading previous reviews which mention him bring back fond memories. Quit waiting and book this vacation; you'll be happy you did.

We stayed at the Four Seasons Guanacaste and paradise is the best definition of our stay. Every single staff person was wonderful, friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were immediately off to a good start when we found out at check in that we had been upgraded to a suite with a plunge pool. Needless to say, the room was so fantastic that we simply never felt the need to leave. Room service ended up costing similarly to the restaurant that we simply ordered room service and enjoyed the room, deck and pool. Aside from the occasional grounds-work noise, it was incredibly quiet and peaceful.
We spent 2 days on tours with Tours Your Way, which came highly recommended by other travelers on TripAdvisor. Mainor did not disappoint. He is incredibly accommodating and the tours we went on were exactly as described and went very smoothly. We went on the Nicaragua tour and the Palo Verde tour. The Nicaragua tour was fascinating! Wonderful country. The border crossing was confusing and we wouldn't have wanted to try to figure it out without Mainor. He made it incredibly smooth. The Palo Verde tour was also wonderful! It was a riverboat tour and we saw plenty of wildlife despite the pouring rain. The tour ended with a Costa Rican lunch which was terrific. Mainor was very prompt for both tours and for pick up and drop off at the airport. Highly recommended!
We also went diving one morning set up through the hotel with Diving Safaris. We were, unfortunately, disappointed. The diving along the coast on the Pacific side at this time of year is not great. The visibility was terrible. The staff were nice but they brought the wrong sized BCD for my husband and when the strap wouldn't close, he was told "don't worry, it's just there for safety." I have to say, having gone diving a lot in the Carribean, we may have been spoiled and so I would not say we would dive again from the Four Seasons in Costa Rica.
We took full advantage of the spa. We had wonderful treatments there and because we went off season, even received discounts on our massage treatments! What a wonderful surprise! The spa area is immaculately clean, the staff perfectly attentive, the treatments of high quality. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
If you are looking for a heavenly vacation full of pampering, geographic beauty, friendly people, options for excitement or doing nothing, then the Four Seasons Costa Rica is for you!
