Amazing gastronomical delight! I saw the reviews on Facebook and could not resist to see for myself. This is the restaurants for foodies. Inexpensive in my mind for what you get. We actually spend more at other restaurants in the Playa Hermosa/Coco areas and the food was not nearly as good. The staff was so attentive. The chef was extra hospitable! You must dine here. Make reservations! They will even open the restaurant for 1 table reservation in the off season! In high season, it is difficult to get a table.

“Abbocato”

You know that you expect a lot from a place where you have been reading so much about. We went as a group; the location, the restaurant ambiance, and staff are very nice but, the food did not meet any of our expectations. Maybe it was one of those days but, we even had to return a plate since the meat was tough and dry. A good chef should turn out a good risotto but they missed it.

“Don't miss this lovely restaurant if you are in the Panama/Hermosa area”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

What a wonderful restaurant - with excellent, accommodating hosts and wonderful food. By far the best food we ate whilst in Costa Rica (travelling around for 14 days) - so good, we went back twice! We only visited at night, but assume the views of the bay would be wonderful, particularly at sunset.

“A World-Class Restaurant”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

My wife and I had a day-in-advance reservation at Abbocato for April 17, 2014. We arrived early and had drinks on a lovely patio overlooking the Costa Rican Pacific Coast. Service was friendly and attentive, but not in any way intrusive. We had a nice discussion about the recent wildfires, the sugar cane harvest, and other local matters.

At dinner, we were offered a table with an equally fine view and a lovely table setting. My wife had the $45 4-course price fixed dinner. It consisted of the most sublime tuna tartare, accompanied by a piece of creatively cured and tasty tuna and an extraordinary salad of unripe papaya with a distinctly Thai sesame tinge. This was followed by a lobster bisque, including a lobster ravioli, both with an intense lobster flavor. The main dish was flying fish prepared in an Italian style in butter and olive oil, and served with a medley of fresh vegetables and yucca prepared more delicately than we'd ever had before. Dessert consisted of many options, and she chose a cheese cake with four different complex sauces, derived from mango, strawberry, cherry, and pineapple. It was very good, but other more exotic options were available. My dinner started with a superb vegetable risotto and was followed by an absolutely perfect whole grilled red snapper that the chef said was the last of four delivered fresh from the boat at mid-day that day. It was served with a choice of rice, pasta, or various forms of potatoes. I chose rice, and the chef offered a variety of sauces to accompany the fish—I chose an orange-based sauce., Included as well was an interesting medley of vegetables, all local and some unfamiliar to me. Also, the chef had provided me with a complementary bowl of the lobster bisque so that my spouse would not be asked to share. We finished the meal with terrific coffee, one of which was an excellent decaf.

Afterward, we spoke with the chef-owner (who is Italian from near Venice) and his wife (who is from San Jose, Costa Rica) and learned more about the area we have been visiting. They are, respectively, Andrea Fiorentin and Paola Villalobos Pinzon.

We could not recommend this restaurant more highly. We live in Washington, DC, which has many fine restaurants. But here the attention to detail, the creativity of the cuisine, the setting, and the hosts make this experience stand out beyond the best in DC. Anyone who visits Costa Rica should make a special effort to dine at Abbocato; it should not be missed.
