VERY CLEAN rooms including the community kitchen, where you'll have your own storage space, and all the conveniences of home. Storage shed for your surfboard/beach gear. Great stay no matter what your budget. Close enough to hear the ocean, but not be kept awake by it. Even hot showers and NOT the 'suicide shower' like most places here. They'll loan you a towel, but bring your own soap ;-)

I am heading back to Santa Teresa shortly for the third time for a three week surf holiday and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Christian has created a tropical home from home that's feels quiet, safe, peaceful & secluded yet is only 100m from the shops, beach & buzz of Playa Carmen. The guesthouse is also a lovely beach walk away to lots of surf breaks to suit all levels, yoga shalas, breakfast coffee shops and sunset beer bars. The rooms are kept incredibly clean, the warm showers in the private ensuite bathrooms very welcome at the end of the day and the shared kitchen is well equipped for evenings you don't want to eat out. So all in all perfect. Highly recommended and affordable especially for solo travellers. Look forward to being back!

Minimalist, tasteful, CLEAN, comfortable (REAL!) beds, and hot water. Beautiful facility. Lacking only in audio privacy-the windows only have screens (and curtains of course) but the sound travels some. We stayed during a thunderstorm and that was beautiful to listen to!

Costa Rica is really good at providing customers poor quality at extraordinary prices....This is not the case with Calocita! Centrally located, nice large rooms with 2 fans for a VERY low price, friendly services, and clean comfortable surroundings. When I go back to ST, I will definitely stay here again!

We cannot say enough good things about Calocita, this was simply the best hostel that we stayed at in our three weeks in Costa Rica, putting all others to shame. We had intended to stay for two nights, and ended up staying four because we felt so comfortable.

Firstly, this should rightfully be called a hotel rather than hostel: The rooms look brand-new, with tasteful and clean furniture in an immaculate and clean red bungalow-style building. The kitchen has lots of space to cook and provides pots and equipment, the hot water is indeed hot, there are hammocks on every floor, including a lazy "hammock space" upstairs. The owner Christian took extremely good care of us (as did his dog Lily who kept us safe at night), providing us with great tips and local stories. The beach is right next door, as is the super market. It is remarkably quiet, as it is set off around 30 meters from the main road, which is also good from a safety and dust perspective. All in all, this was a great experience, the best hostel in a great beach town. Thanks to Christian from the Canadian couple who loves dogs (and Lily).
