“Perfect for a quiet honeymoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

We decided to stay here amongst a couple other places we had chosen in Sta Teresa and we were happy about our choice. We wanted only to relax and be at the beach. It was a quiet, small room with a hammock and a perfect view of the ocean including other intricacies found around the hotel. Even though it was after the beginning of the rainy season there was little rain and no one around. The hotel is further up from other restaurants and hotels which makes the stay even more private. I would recommend renting some kind of bike or RV if you plan to venture out often. We enjoyed the long walks and did rent a bike directly through the hotel. We chose to do the Romantic Pack which is a great value for the price and made the stay that much more intimate. The service is exceptional. The food is exceptional, including a fresh breakfast looking at the beach. Vanessa and Ramon work together quite nicely to make sure that you are enjoying your vacation and are apt to give any recommendations for some of the many things you can do in Sta Teresa. All in the all the trip was not just perfect to "destress" from a chaotic wedding week but also like a magical, far away dream. Bravo to Vane and Ramon!

We went to El Rey Patricio for dinner. We didn't find Patricio but instead met with Vanessa and Ramon the owners who are an amazing couple that both have a outstanding sense of receiving guests and cooking amazing food, this duo is perfect.
I spent some time in barcelona and can tell you that these tapas have nothing to be shy of some of the very good tables I've been too.
This couple is just so friendly that we stayed longer at the end of our dinner talking about their experience in Santa Teresa and the world in general, very pleasant knowing that they were probably tired from a long day.. it just felt like being at a friends house.
You can choose anything from the menu and you won't be disappointed from the taste to the way the food is presented!
Ramon the chef definitely has a sense of estheticism when is comes down to food.
You will feel the passion in every single bite.
Thank you again for this tasteful and lovely experience.

As you can see by my profile, I usually give glowing reviews. However I feel compelled to write about my negative experience at El Rey Patricio. Perhaps people thinking about staying there will gather from the description but this is a very basic place. Very small rooms. Yes there is an ocean view - from outside your room. Not from sitting inside your room so beware. Our room had no air-conditioning and no windows. To say it was hot and muggy is an understatement. And the bathroom is NOT separate. There is a curtain separating the bathroom from the (small) area where the bed is so you should know any rooming companions well. ha! Also, my friend was sick so we needed to move to a place that had air (or a window!) and the manager was not happy at all. She just didn't seem to understand why a windowless room lacking air conditioning and without a private bathroom would not be the best place for a person experiencing major stomach issues and fever. This place is far from town and any other amenities. But, if you want an ocean view from outside your tiny windowless room and to be covered by dust looking at it from the street below, then stay here.

Apreciada Mellymelin,

We came to stay in santa teresa for 2 nights and planned to stay here for the full time. Vanessa and ramon are delightful and the restaurant is great. The bungalow we stayed in was right by a dirt road so the whole room was covered in a layer of dust and sheets didnt seem clean. We ended up only staying 1 night as we decided we needed a pool as the beach is not suitable for swimming. Pretty basic rooms. I would only really recommend this place for the restaurant.

Querida Amy,
Gracias.
Un saludo,
Vanessa y RAmon

We loved our 9-day stay at El Rey Patricio. We had a bungalow all set with A/C and hammock on the porch, standing by itself. It was very clean and great value (beginning of rainy season) with Ocean views from the porch. The Hotel and restaurant are run by Vanessa and Ramón, a super-friendly couple from Barcelona. They helped with any questions and tips we might need. We can also recommend the tapas available in the popular restaurant within the hotel. The hotel is fairly small and outside of "town", so it's good to relax. You can get to town by taxi or your own car.

Room Tip: Sleeping quality depends on the tides and the weather as you are right next to the Ocean and it can...

We stayed for 5 nights in the room with ocean-view and had a great experience!
The room is basic but clean, very charming and exciting. Very reasonable value for money. Being separated by wooden shutters from the outside gives it a real close-to-nature feel, hearing the ocean’s waves.
What is even more exciting is that you are at Santa Teresa and its surrounding towns’ best restaurant! We had a 3 week holiday and visited a lot of restaurants across Costa Rica and El Rey Patricio is the best restaurant we had. We had dinner there several times so we could taste a lot of different dishes and tapas. Everything we ordered was excellent; very tasty and honest dishes with respect to its ingredients. Ramon is really capable of bringing the ingredients’ tastes out at the best. The paella is one of the best we ever had, even in Spain! After a whole day of surfing and tasting salty ocean waters their legendary sangria as an appetizer and great food is a blessing!
Vanessa and Ramon are a truly friendly couple as well. They gave us good advise and information, made phone calls when needed and we had nice chats with them. They treated us like friends and we felt like home. A true gem!

As they they were fully booked, Vanessa and Ramon couldn't rent us a room. Nevertheless we went to have dinner at the restaurant to see what we missed. They both are doing a very fine job, working hard to please their guests. And the spanish food was really worth going to that restaurant. So this place seems to be a 'must' staying in Santa Teresa. And book early to get a chance of accommodation.
