My wife and I were on our honeymoon last week in very nearby Franamar. One night we looked to leave the hotel and find a place for dinner within walking distance. Someone suggested Tapas El Rey Patricio and if we ever see that person again, we will plant a big wet kiss upon their lips. For starters: the place is beautiful. One giant thatch hut open on all sides and with 30 foot ceilings. We were immediately met by Vanessa the co-owner (along with her boyfriend Ramon). We felt as if we were walking into their living room. She made lots of great suggestions but we wound up dancing around their menu sharing 4 or 5 dishes between us. First up was their homemade sausage with garlicky white beans, then papas bravas, followed by the most wonderful chicken croquettes known to man. Then there was a tomato salad which if I try to even describe, I will embarrass myself. A truly spectacular meal. In fact, it was so memorable, we returned a few nights later. This go around we had: a gazpacho, a tomato-ey bread, and the biggest, juciest prawns I had ever laid my eyes. My wife insists I mention her smoothie (Batidos) which she finished before the meal even arrived.
Vanessa and Ramon have created a restaurant you will not soon forget. They are both super nice and super cool and if you don't eat there, you only have yourself to blame. My only complaint is that they aren't located in NY where we can eat there anytime we want. Thanks, guys!
