We stayed at the Casa di Pietra for 3 days to start off our honeymoon in Panama. The stay was perfect & relaxing. Louis & his son Alfredo couldn't have been nicer & more accommodating, plus spoke perfect english. Louis arranged a car to pick us up at the airport and take us to El Valle, a 2.5-3 hour drive. The driver, Carlos was excellent, but spoke limited english. Louis also opened the bar the first night we were there so we could meet other guests and enjoy his delightful wine cellar.

The room was beautiful, reminded me of Swiss Family Robinson's tree house. Beautiful wood interior with windows all around, an adorable balcony with a great calming view of the mountains. The location is perfect, within walking distance of the town, but far enough away to feel more relaxing & natural.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 2nd floor (3 of these) have bigger rooms but smaller balcony's. The rooms on the 1st floor are smaller rooms, but bigger balcony's with nicer chairs.

We went here on the strength of the trip advisor reviews and I have to say I was quite disappointed. I found our second floor bedroom to be damp and stale smelling - we awoke in the morning to rain dripping onto the single bed in the room and onto the end of our own bed. This has clearly been going on a while as there was a large water stain on the duvet from previous leaks. I know it is rainy season here but it was a real disappointment. Also hair in the bed and our towels smelled really musty. At $120 a night I really expected better. Breakfast was very nice and the owner Luis is a total gentleman but at that price and for our experience I am afraid we will be looking else where next time.

Room Tip: Bring your own towels and extra shampoo and shower gel.

I agree this place is a little hard to find, but the owner and staff were amazing right from the get-go, from the moment we entered El Valle. We couldn't seem to be able to locate the hotel, but one of the owner's sons came to where we were and guided us to the hotel. The setting is absolutely breathtaking, and we immediately regretting only staying one night. They were extremely accommodating, helping with our bags, advising us on restaurants and activities, and providing an amazing breakfast in the morning in their beautiful outdoor terrace. They seem to operate around your needs; for example, we were sitting downstairs playing cards and one of the young men came out from the house in order to open the bar for us.

Yes, the stairs are steep, and yes, you have to close the all the curtains yourself. All in all, if those are the only problems, you've had a pretty great stay in my book.

At 110 USD per night, this place was a steal and is a definite must for travellers in Panama.

My wife and I stayed at Casa Di Pietra B & B for 1 night. I would certainly echo the great comments others have relayed about the owner, the breakfast provided and interesting grounds.
One needs to be careful navigating the spiral steps to rooms upstairs especially when carrying luggage. Steps are quite narrow to one side of stairwell which itself is a bit snug.
While quaint we found the room we were assigned small and not easy to maneuver around especially with luggage. Washroom and in particular the shower stall left a bit to be desired.
A small annoyance was tying or untying all those window coverings.
Small Balcony off the room was a nice touch and a delight to sit and take in sights and sounds of the neighbourhood.
All in all a pleasant place, but on the relatively expensive side for room when compared to other places we stayed throughout Panama on this and other trips.

right near downtown el valle, the owner is a gracious host who provides a wonderful three course breakfast and will happily recommend excellent dinner spots. The grounds are park-like and create a bird sanctuary while the buildings themselves are made of stone with gorgeous wood from the indigenous "square trees". right near downtown el valle, but nestled in tranquility.

Room Tip: no elevator - when they say 2nd floor they mean two flights of steps up. the rooms we saw all had terraces that overlooked the grounds.
