“True Hospitality in Valle Anton Panama”
Reviewed 30 June 2010

Park Eden is like staying with old friends... only better. Owners Monica and Lionel, who speak excellent English (for you monolinguals), ensure that visitors feel welcome and comfortable. Our duplex casita was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished with a queen-sized bed, a single and a second single in a loft. The kitchenette included a stove, a microwave and a refrigerator. The beautifully manicured grounds featured impressive gnarled trees, beautiful flowers and quaint little bridges over a creek running though the property. Hummingbirds and other colorful avians flitted around feeders as we ate our tasty and ample breakfast in the outdoor pavilion. Having spent the previous night in "downtown" El Valle hotel (and enduring a raucous family party, blasting autos and a 20-car alarm serenade) the tranquility of Park Eden was a blessed respite before tackling the highway back to Panama City. We wish we had discovered this Eden a couple of days earlier so we could have spent more time there. Unless you own a home on "Millionaires Row" or you want to hike, go birding or have a zipline experience, there is not a lot to do in El Valle de Anton, but a stay at Park Eden will provide a traveler's interlude worth remembering.

This B and B has several room options, including whole houses that can accomodate families. We stayed three nights in the small but well-equipped Las Casita, which has a queen bed, bathroom, small fridge, coffee maker, ceiling fan, air conditioning (essential because there's no insulation in the tiled roof, so after a day of sun beating down, the room was extremely hot), and a small porch with two chairs and table overlooking a little garden. The best part of the B and B is the beautiful grounds with lots of feeders that attract an abundance of birds (both numbers and species). We chose this B and B because it is recommended for birders, and we were not disappointed in this respect. We enjoyed walking and birding the grounds at the end of each day. During our stay, the owners unfortunately had a medical emergency and had to leave for Panama City for a few days, so we didn't get to know them but Monica was still able to try and help us before they left, in spite of concerns about her husband's health. So, we are sure that if they had been present during our stay, they would have been fantastic hosts. Their employees took care of us quite well, in spite of little Spanish on our side and no English on theirs. We only had one morning when we enjoyed the wonderful breakfast served (the empanadas are out of this world!) because we were usually up and gone very early for birding. However, the staff put orange juice, milk, fruit, two hard boiled eggs, and some truly dreadful inedible cheese or ham sandwiches in our fridge ahead of time, so that was fine. One word of caution about dining out in the town of El Valle -- unless it's the peak tourist season, very few restaurants are open for dinner during the week, except for those attached to large hotels, and these were not very good. Do eat at Bruschetta's when it's open -- its' the best place in town. Also, during our stay, there was construction across the street, so some bothersome noise but this would be temporary.

The town of El Valle is a wonderful place, and even so Park Eden stands out. We stayed at Park Eden for four glorious nights and do not have a single complaint but so much praise. The staff were fantastic and very friendly, the grounds were relaxing and scenic, and the outdoor breakfasts were perfection. To top it all, Park Eden has a personal touch that is rarely found these days. The owners are easy to talk to, understanding and make that extra effort that really makes you feel at home. We did various things during our time in El Valle, from wildlife watching in the cloud forest to relaxing in the garden hammocks. Park Eden was the perfect base for all of the activities that we partook in. If possible, we will be back!

It's worth visiting for the breakfast in the garden alone. Food was great and every kind of bird came to the bird feeders. The room and bath were attractive with lots of extra touches. Our room had a small porch with a great view. The grounds and the neighborhood were lovely. The owner was most gracious. I'm ready to go back!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Park Eden. What a surprise to find such a beautiful B&B in the mountains of Panama. All of Monica's recommendations were right on. I would stay at Park Eden again without hesitation. In fact, I will be back.

I recently stayed a week at Park Eden B&B. The setting is peaceful, beautiful and near town. It is a 10 minute stroll to the center of town thru enchanted lanes filled with beautiful country homes, flora and fauna. El Valle is surrounded by mountains and has a cool climate. The beauty of the area can be appreciated when hiking.

The hosts are delightful and the breakfast hearty.

My wife, the kids and myself stayed recently at Park Eden and we loved it. The owners Monica & Lionel treated us like we were part of the family. The place is beautiful and the rooms spotless. The breakfast was outstanding. The owners are always willing to help in any special request of special need. I recommend this place very highly.
