“cool town... worth a stop”
Reviewed 17 April 2011

Loved the town...... get your groceries before 7pm.... or everything will be closed. Swimming at El Macho waterfalls is amazing. The zoo was great. The hot springs with the mud was surprising fun and the mud makes your skin feel great. We enjoyed our 4 day stay. We stayed at a little place that is not listed on trip advisor. It was called Cabinas Colores. Check it out.... the owner doesn't speak any English.... We spoke enough Spanish to get by. She was a great host and very helpful.

“A nice day trip”
Reviewed 21 February 2010

El Valle is a short day trip from Panama City. It's a cute small town with colorful buildings and a bustling market. We went with Ruth from My Tours Panama as our guide and she was great. We went to the zoo and saw the golden frogs. We also saw the petroglyphs, the waterfall and had a very tasty lunch consisting of authentic panamanian food. It's a pretty drive to El Valle and it was nice to see the cloud forest vs the rain forest. Reminded me a lot of costa rica.

“The Lost Kingdom”
Reviewed 7 April 2005

First impressions of El Valle aren't impressive - a straggling linear valley village with a disappointing hardstanded market (but some useful shops) and, seemingly, no real centre.

But relax, drink it in and it is a revelation - it is Alpinesque; clear, clean, cool and insular in its volcano blasted valley. Panama City it ain't.

We circled endlessly and finally settled on the Hotel Campestre, gently decaying in its impressive grounds. You will want to stay in the original hotel building but won't be able to - the sixties looking extension is OK ish at $33 but a bit musty and neglected. Service is best described as helpful when present.

If you are at all intrepid take the horse trek up and out of the caldera - you will get an idea of the trials endured by the muleteers crossing the isthmus with animals packed with gold. I loved it.
