“Parfait II”

Great surroundings, beautiful garden, many amuse vouches to try, all beautifully prepared. The wine suggested by the sommelier for each course was also a wonderful addition.

“Excellence at a price but very favourable internationally”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2013

We have eaten at this restaurant before and over this summer we have eaten at most of the Dordognes best restaurants. Having dined at some of the worlds best I thought we would try to give an objective review of each.

Le vieux logis is excellent in most regards. We have had both lunch and dinner here and I prefer a summer lunch under the trees.

The food is truly excellent, wonderful tastes, a delicate touch - to be savoured.

The atmosphere is wonderful - a relaxed meal under the trees. This is how life is supposed to be.

The service is first rate but perhaps a little stuffy compared to others.

The price - compare to London or new York it is really really good value. You could easily pay double or Triple this price for this quality. The snag is there are other restaurants locally that offer great food or great location at a third of the price.

If your budget is large or it's a special occasion then do it. For every week try some of the others.

“A perfect evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

We had eaten at the resturant once before for lunch, but this time we went for the evening and all picked the 'chefs choice' menu. Ok so it's not the cheapest of resturants in the area, but if you are celebrating a birthday or wedding anniversary the location can not be beaten.

The food and wine were perfect for a July evening, so much so that we booked for the New Year special!

“Good but could have been better!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2013

We only ate in the restaurant, so are unable to comment on the accommodation.
Having eaten in Michelin starred restaurants all over Europe it was with anticipation that we ventured to the Vieux Logis. I am unable to remember what the tasting menu was called but it was in the order of €100 per head with wine. I always find that this is the best way to go. It ensures you get some reasonable wine without paying through the nose for overpriced bottles. Food was of good standard but I would not rate it higher than very good.
In line with many rated restaurants the male waiting staff, including the maitre d’ seem to look down upon the plebs that are paying high prices to keep them in employment. Whereas, the ladies are charming and incredibly helpful.
The décor of the restaurant is, I don’t really know what! Possibly along the lines of a gentlemen’s club. The best tables seem to be reserved for residents but I suppose that is to be expected.
It took forever to get the bill, I think we had to ask at least three times. This seems to be a trait of many expensive restaurants. Perhaps they are hoping you will spend even more money.
We all enjoyed the evening and the food. Would we go again? Probably not, there is a great deal of very good food and wine in this area of France and it’s only about a third of the price.

“Excellent value and quality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2013

This restaurant has one Michelin star and its quality put it firmly in that category. At every level the restaurant was extremely satisfying. The grounds are lovely. The interior is original and charming. Service was extremely professional and attentive. The food was well prepared and well conceived. And at a price of 105 Euro for 5 courses plus wine, a genuine bargain. Should go out my way to mention the lamb which was simply outstanding. In a word, this is exactly what a one star Michelin restaurant should be.
