“Nice View But The Rooms Aren't Great”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

My wife and I stayed here for one night on our way to Northern Brittany. As previous reviewers have said it is in a stunning location. We had a nice vista from the room but you had to lean out of the window a bit to get the best of it. We didn't eat or drink there as it was just a stopover but the service at check in was fine. The room was quite small and the bathroom was ok but it was the decor I found strange. The room was sparsely furnished and wasn't for me at all with it being painted purple and therefore very dark. It was OK for a stopover but I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 5 is very, very purple

The approach roads in the area give the impression that you will be in the middle of a not very attractive commercial area. The slip road off to the hotel takes you up a a hill overlooking the River Seine. Its position gives you an incredible view of the river with no sign of noise or of the main road below.

Ideal location as a last night stop in France on way back home.

The hotel initially looked a bit past its best ie. worn stair carpet, chipped paint on the white staircase etc. The reception was friendly, professional with excellent English and soon compensated for some of the 'tired' areas..

The room and most of the hotel is decorated in strong vibrant colours with white and silver fixtures. The room was good, if an unusual shape, bathroom modern and clean.

Restaurant has an indoor / outdoor terrace seating. On a hot summer day the views were stunning. Food was reasonably priced, delicious and served with style. One criticism was the cutlery which is very heavy stylised modern. Seems unusual to put this in a review but it is cumbersome and did not do the delicacy of the food justice.

We found it a delightful and romantic location. Breakfast was excellent and very comprehensive with a large choice of meat, cheese, bakery, scrambled egg etc etc.

Would I stay there again- Yes definitely

All staff very friendly and professional.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION:
This is a nice hotel. With a stunning location. Which, to be honest, is its biggest asset.
An old villa nestling high above the Seine - romantic and panoramic settings couldn’t be better. You can certainly have a room with a view…
The hotel has an uncertain style, where someone has had ”boutique” ambitions. Hence all purple colours and misplaced plastic decorations. Nevertheless, you live quite comfortable here with attentive and friendly staff, nice views and a relaxed atmosphere.
Domaine de la Corniche has a panoramic restaurant, a nice bar (deep inside – not facing the Seine valley) and an outdoor pool.

ARRIVAL/PARKING:
Domaine de la Corniche is very near Monet’s Giverny – which probably adds to customer interest. Parking is just opposite the entrance. Arriving by other means than car/taxi could be a problem. Right now the hotel is building a spa facility just beside the parking lot – so expansion is going on. Check in conducted without any problems. Friendly and welcoming staff.

ROOM OVERVIEW:
We had a nice, but rather small, room with a view over the Seine. AC working just fine (for once…)! Beds comfortable. On the firm side. We slept well.
Everything clean and well kept. Every amenity you would expect in a four star hotel is present.

BAR AND RESTAURANT:
The bar is inside the building and in the basement. A bit dark and you long to come out into the restaurant and the terrace. The restaurant is a vast half-curbed area with panoramic view over the Seine below. Quite stunning. Although large it has a very nice ambiance. Perfectly set for both a romantic event as well as for travelling families. Service, menu and style have a touch of ”upscale habits”, but they can’t quite deliver at this level. However, we had a more than fairly good, but slightly pricey, dinner. What you mainly pay for here is the grand setting and view. In the summer you can also have your dinner on the terrace walk outside the panoramic windows.

ENVIRONMENT:
The hotel is situated high above the village, so it’s not likely that you take an evening stroll to a restaurant or café. But why should you – the place is inviting for relaxation. The pool (which by the way is black!), the view and the restaurant provides enough entertainment for a night or two.
Position is perfect if you are visiting Giverny and/or are coming from the northwestern parts of France heading for Paris.

RATING:
Official rating is four stars. Which in my opinion, with the exception of the slightly tired and whimsical interior, is fair and right.

PRICE/PERFORMANCE:
Good. Recommended.

We were looking for a place to stay near Giverny and found this delightful hotel - it sits high on a bluff overlooking the Seine River. There is a large terrace/balcony where one can sit and enjoy drinks overlooking the river - it's very peaceful and quiet. The dining room window also overlooks the river below and the villages far beyond the river. Our room was spacious and comfortable - it had recently been renovated and so furnishings and fittings were still relatively new. The bathroom was clean. We have stayed here a couple of times and will gladly return if in the area once again. This hotel is another gem and not far from Giverny and Monet's Garden. If not for the sign along the road, one could easily drive past this delightful hotel.
Tickets for Giverny can be bought at the reception desk and the staff were very informative about what to see and do around this pretty part of France.

Just back from 3 nights break in this hotel. We had a great experience. We had a room directly overlooking the Seine with a large balcony shared between 4 rooms (fabulous to book all 4 rooms for friends or family). Our room had a small toilet (not a problem as only a loo) and the bath and sink where open plan to the room. Meant you coud sit in the bath and look at the fabulous view too. Was amazing. Bath had shower facility too which was great. We had booked the half board with champagne option. Needless to say we ordered a far bit more champagne and wine. The menu was the same every night but had a few options on each course. May have been nice to have had a different menu each night. The crab starter was great (small supplement). The hake and chorizo was also great. The veal was not. It was bland and tasteless unfortunately. The lobster was delicious though. The raspberry and lemon tart was my favourite. But my husband fell in love with the pistachio club sandwich made with ice cream which he had every night. The staff were lovely. They were very busy the second night and we felt a little ignored but were quite happy to pour our own wine. They have a free pool table which we utilised fully. The pool was lovely. Most of the time having it to ourselves. The location was ideal, 10 mins to the Monet gardens. We felt it was incredible value and highly recommend it. We will go back.

This hotel is simply sub par. Not worth the money. No attention to detail cobwebs on the front door, chipped paint, thin worm carpets. Seriously this is barely worth a review except to warn you off. A waste of hard earned cash.

Although the menu doesn't change for the entire summer the food was excellent and served with a smile. A good wine list with some strange older vintages was also reasonable with bottles starting at about 25 euros. . The junior suite that we stayed in was very pokey with beams to bang your head a constant problem. Air con was included which was necessary. Come here though for the food which showed a chef who understands flavours and combinations. Menus started from 41 euros
