We stayed at the Chateau for two nights as part of our walking holiday. It is difficult to categorise this hotel but it is right up our street! Our first impression was very positive and our room was just lovely with views across road into trees and pool from the bedroom and views across the open air restaurant area from the bath room. Everything was not modern and ultra well finished - they have retained lots of the old character and for us this is perfect. We arrived at around two o,clock on a Monday. Unfortunately despite not having any food since 8am we tried to get a sandwich (or anything would do!) at around 2.30 and the reception were quite off hand that food was not available in any form. It was also difficult to get service for a drink at the swimming pool. We thought we could get some food in the village but nothing was open so we had to wait until our evening meal before getting fead. In the scheme of things this was a one off from one individual and we have nothing but praise for the rest of our stay. The evening meal was good food and well served by pleasant and very helpful waiters - lovely surroundings for a meal. Day 2 started with a brilliant buffet breakfast, great choice of food, lots of it, squeeze your own oranges, boil lovely eggs, help yourself to breads, cheeses and fruits .... couldn't have been better ... perfect. good service again from the waiters.

We walked into Uzes on day two which was really nice walk through easy countryside. Plenty to see in Uzes and we had a hot afternoon walk back into Arpaillargues in the afternoon where we made the most of the swimming pool at the Chateau. The pool was nicely set out and maintained in a grassed area which was great to relax in as the sun went down, good sunbeds and towels provided and tables to sit at. We managed to get some service and a cold beer went down well after the walk from Uzes. We had our evening meal in open air at the Chateau - once again well attended, well treated by the waiters. the food was good, especially the desserts. Next day we were picked up by taxi to start our next walk from Uzes ...

Note that our walking holiday meant us walking and our bags being collected later by taxi. On this occasion we left some stuff in our room by mistake including a kindle e book. It was great to see that the room staff had found our things and put them with our baggage which was at our next hotel on arrival. This was without us needing to phone them ...... many thanks to the staff!!

Room Tip: I showed fitness centre and room service as "average". I think the fitness centre probably did not exist and not sure about room service which we didn't use. I would have left these categories blank but once touched it seems you cannot remove from the review ... Sorry

This review is about the restaurant.

Went with friends for dinner in the garden. We were seated under the trees at the far end of the patio, which was great as we could chat as loud and excitedly as we wanted. Beautiful summer setting that would be great for a romantic dinner or like ours celebrating someone's birthday.

The food was very good. Typical Provençal dishes with a very nice flourish and rich flavours. The Foie Gras was as good as any I have ever had and was presented in a fantastically original way. My dessert was a rich chocolate number with summer fruits and ice cream. I could have eaten it twice!

The wine list was full and very diverse, we went through champagne, white, red and finally a gorgeous Sauternes to have with dessert. All well chosen by a member of our party but he said there was plenty to choose from.

The bill was just over €100 per head which for a celebration with friends was good.

If you are in the area, give it a go!

1* the room was very hot and the air-condicioning didn't work properly. the staff was hopeless regarding this and after lot of complaining they managed to put a terrible fan in the bedroom.

2* we had to clothes stolen from our room. my brand new dress and my husband brand new t-shirt. we spoke to the reception but they were again hopeless and didn't do anything to bring our clothes back.

3* the hotel food was not good, staff took orders wrong, we were charged wrong, and food took long to be made. the whole food experience was a disaster.

4* swimming pool water was dirty as hell.

the place looks charming, that is the only good thing about it.

Room Tip: there is none

The reviews that knock this hotel are unfair. It is a very attractive building (Provencal seigneurial large manor house) in a tiny "hameau" (town) of similar golden stone buildings just 4 kilometers outside of lovely Uzes. It is a three star hotel mot a five star Relais & Chateau place. There is lovely large "parc" with a large swimming pool and tennis courts.

The staff is young and from the "region". They are helpful, polite and willing.

We booked before I read the panning reviews. Was quite worried after I read them and was pleasantly surprised to find that the place was just as I expected. If people are looking for a luxury hotel, they should rent in one and pay luxury prices. This place is no more and no less than it claims to be: A grand old house in a lovely environment with the quality it advertises. You are in part paying for the nature of the place, the little town, the closeness to Uzes and the wonderful grounds. We stayed an extra two nights and found the hotel to be the perfect setting for exploring the region at leisure. We would stay there again without hesitation unless our major concern was to save money. You can find less expensive in the region. But it won't be a historic manor house.
