“How to rest and relax in style”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Although pretty regular visitors to both Le Touquet and Montreuil, we had never stayed at the Chateau - big mistake! We walked through the wooden entrance doors - and found a little Paradise! We had booked a room on the 2nd floor of the main building and had been warned that there was no lift but it really wasn't a problem with weekend luggage. The room was just lovely, light and spacious with a good sized sitting room as well - room 209 is definitely recommended! The gardens are extensive with lots of chairs dotted around so you can sit privately and peacefully. The staff were really friendly and helpful and very good at reminding you to "watch your step" at a number of uneven places on the floor! Continental breakfast was wonderful sitting on the terrace, looking out over the garden with the most delicious assortment of goodies- the marmalade and the bread were to die for! We checked out and went to walk the ramparts in the morning, had a beer in town but were drawn back to the Chateau so we sat in the gardens with the papers, an aperitif and a late snack lunch (one of tastiest croque monsieurs ever!) before eventually dragging ourselves away to the Channel Tunnel and the inevitable M25 traffic jam - from the sublime to the ridiculous! We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: There is no lift and the stairs to the 2nd floor might be a bit steep if you are a little unsteady o...

A lovely room in a separate building to the main hotel with the bathroom downstairs. This was no problem. Very pleasant and well kept grounds. A good menu and wine list which we enjoyed. Good service and friendly staff. The town is lovely too. We would definitely return.

My wife and I recently stayed here for a couple of nights to allow ourselves a days cycling in the surrounding area. The staff were all lovely, the room very quiet and comfortable and the restaurant was excellent. My only criticism would be that such a grand bathroom could have done with a larger bath.

This is a charming French chateau. The room in the annexe has a shared terrace,, but only a shower by hand in the bath which is quite old-fashioned.

The restaurant has a star which might be deserved but prices are quite high.
The breakfast is charged 25 Euros
Nuts in the bar were not fresh.

The total bill is approximately 30 percent higher than in similar places.

The staff is OK.

Room Tip: Parking in garage is charged 12 euro's but is not needed. Just park outside the hotel. We had...

Lovely hotel with a very good kitchen, but they try to charge for extras without warning you first. We arrived at 6pm having driven from Bordeaux (500 mls) and were offered secure parking in their garage which we accepted. Our room was on the first floor which was very nice, albeit a throw back to the 1950's, but it had charm and was very spacious. The previous reviewer was absolutely correct about blankets and pillows on the floor at the bottom of the wardrobe with the pest spray! There was no water by the bed at night so my husband had to take a small bottle of Evian from the fridge at a cost of 5 euros. A hotel of this standard should offer water automatically. At dinner, we were shown the menu together with the specials of the evening. The maître d' offered us cote de boeuf to share, but it wasn't on the menu. He didn't say there was a supplement to pay, so we decided to have it. When we checked out the next day, I thought the bill seemed rather more than I expected. On asking for a break down, it transpired they charged 12euros for parking and 24 euros supplement for the beef. They did remove the extras when we complained. Beware of the wine list. They have some great wines but very expensive. We opted for a half bottle as we were driving next morning and had a drink in the bar before dinner, but were pushed to a much more expensive bottle than we originally chose. We were too tired to argue, but the overall feeling was to get us to spend as much as possible and it wasn't done subtly. Also, breakfast was included in our room rate and we had to ask if the full English was included, which it was - it wasn't offered!

Superior room with view of the gardens, comfortable bed spacious quiet.
Dinner excellent Michelin star quality, wine list slanted to Bordeaux and expensive but the sommelier suggested some good choices with a reasonable desert wine not on the list.
Breakfast was extra as is the annoying case in France but well worth the 20'euros homemade pastries marmalade jam sublime coffee and freshly squeezed juice. Staff were excellent too.
Wifi was slow but ok
There should be complimentary bottled water and coffee making facilities in the room the only fault for the price ,hotel please note!!

Room Tip: Worth paying for a superior room

We too had stayed here previously and de-toured on our return to the UK to enjoy what we hoped would be a gourmet experience.
Like the previous reviewer, we were disappointed.
The information pack in the bedroom warned that food was cooked freshly and so "please be patient". After one and a half hours wait for the starter, my patience ran out, not even an apology, we had drunk the half bottle of Chablis chosen to accompany it and eaten far too much bread to quell our hunger.. When it did arrive, it was adequate, but my main course sea bass was overwhelmed by a strong, for me uneatable accompaniment of unnecessary citrus fruits.
Our room was small and pokey and one of the mirrored wardrobe doors was badly cracked. There is a spare blanket and pillows in the wardrobe, but they are just lying on the floor and even the most basic motel provides these in a hygienic plastic bag.
We definately wont be returning. The Chateau Montreuil is expensive and snooty and standards have slipped, they need some lessons in customer care.

Room Tip: We didnt have one.
