We had one night to spend on our way up to Lille from Paris. We had stayed at Chateau Montreuil once about 10 years previously - our first ever Relaix and Chateau property! We had fond memories so expectations were high. We booked via their internet site - special offer E150. Upon arrival, without asking, they upgraded us to a very nice room with a huge bathroom and they had clearly renovated since we had last stayed there. Decor is comfortable, not particulrly stylish but very charming.
The restaurant is a one star michelin with a 75E set menu - not cheap for the middle of nowhere! We had a lovely dinner including the best "foie gras poele" of the entire trip.
The staff we very helpful and friendly and very professional in the restaurant - the sommelier was very knowledgeable.
I would highly recommend for a short stay.

Montreuil sur mere is a lovely little french village situated around an hours drive from Calais. I first went to this village whilst courting my girlfriend (now wife). Anyhow, after a few years later and our daughter, we went back to the Chateau for lunch. Well, it was fantastic. From the food to the staff, you just couldn't fault the experience and it was indeed an experience. It was one of those dining experiences that you just didn't want to end. After leaving, we were checking our diary to see when we could return. They even took our daughter into the kitchen and gave her a present of lovely home-made chocolate. It was a firt class lunch. If you are heading that way, make sure you drop by for lunch, you owe it to your taste buds!

Despite the classification this hotel is not even in Boulogne but in Montreuil. It is however the best hotel within 100 miles of Calais without question.
We have been to this part of France a dozen times over the last few years and this hotel is in a different league from the others. The rooms are stylish and comfortable. The food is consistently first class and locally sourced. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive.
It is expensive although not on the London scale and it is probably the best value that you can get within 4 hours of London for this quality.

This is the first time I have reviewed a hotel and wanted to respond to some negative comments on this site.
We have been going to the Chateau for many years and had many wonderful times there.
It's not cheap and not a run of the mill hotel.
If thats what you are looking for there are several other hotels in Montreuil
The proprieter was trained by Albert Roux & was head chef at the Waterside Inn for many years so the food is surperb.
The rooms are full of original futniture and antiques and the grounds resemble an English country garden are beautiful in the spring/summer.
If you want a 5 star hotel the Chateau is spot on.

Stayed for one night. Had a family room on the second floor which was great - plenty of room, huge bathroom.

Heated pool which was good and hotel located just by the ramparts and easy to get to the town.

Staff excellent - booking process was more than helpful.

Ate in the restaurant - formal French but staff were excellent and meal also.

Expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
