“Nice surrounding let down by poor room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

When booking asked for a large room and booked the top price room on the assurance it was a large room. Was very disappointed and felt a little duped as the room had a large but unusable floor space including a mezzanine with 3 beds on it. The fittings were not of a good standard so very disappointed. To rub salt int the wound we were told on complaining that all the rooms were the same size. We did have a private terrace however. The pool area was very nice. Had we had a nice room we would have had dinner and bkfst but declined

Our only regret was that we had only booked one night at this beautiful small hotel--more like an inn, a 10-minute walk from the village of Roussillon, at the edge of the Luberon area of Provence. The grounds are lovely and feature a beautiful pool surrounded by lounge chairs within view of the terrace where breakfast is served. Dinner was the best meal we had in France and thanks to the Colorado-born English speaking waitress, the chef accommodated our food needs perfectly. The village is charming and features some high-end art galleries, some real quality shops and marvelous views of the ochre-colored hills from which the village is carved.

We made a mistake when booking but eventhough fully booked, they came up with a solution. Great staff and caring owners that helped us plan a daytrip of sightseeing. Can recommend this place to anyone.

Stayed here for 5 nights whilst we travelled around the area. The rooms are spacious and have lovely views over the garden (we had a balcony). The owners and staff are attentive and friendly. it's a ten minute or so stroll to Roussillon.
Breakfast is plentiful, eaten sat on the terrace as the little Redstarts flew back and forth to their chicks!! I was a tad disappointed at having to take a tray to get my breakfast (a little cafeteria like) and there was still a queue as the area is quite small and a little disappointed about a coffee from a machine, so you have to go back for a top up, but they are minor things really.
Another minor thing is the quality of the towels - thin and a smell of being too long in the tumble dryer.
However, the pool area is lovely, if a little short of sun loungers.(grass is not comfortable when you're in your 50s!!)
We ate there one evening - the food was lovely, service was a little slow but sat out in the garden (being nibbled by mozzies - citronella candles on the table maybe?) you don't notice it too much, and price wise it's on a par with the rest of the town.
Shame the hotel closed so early though, we are not night owls, but to come back just after 10.30pm and find everywhere closed - a night cap would have been lovely, sat overlooking the pool.

This first class Hotel is set in the beautiful red village of Roussillon. The rooms are comfortable, the gardens picturesque, and the food stunning. the service is second to none especially waitress from Colorado.

This was my 2nd visit to this hotel in as many years, and I adore it there. The grounds are beautifully maintained and very restful (in June, that is, although I suspect that the pool might be hopping with families in August). The pool is a wonderful treat after a day of touring, and you can leave your car at the hotel and walk uphill to Roussillon village in about 12-15 minutes. Everyone who works there is extraordinarily kind and helpful and they speak English very well (one of the dinner servers is in fact American and incredibly sweet). Nothing I could ask for was too much for them. The young guys on the cleaning staff do a terrific job (and very quickly, while I was down at breakfast). My superior room had a balcony with a view of the beautiful pool and lawns, although I found I didn't want to linger on it: it was shaded in the morning, but Provence was calling, and in the afternoons there was a lot of hot sun there (we were in a bit of a heat wave). The area by the pool (either covered or uncovered) always looked more refreshing. The rooms are fairly basic (and reminiscent of average American motels) but the bed is comfortable, the AC works well, and there was always hot water in the bath. The carpet is unusual: flat, it muffles any footsteps very well, but it LOOKS like some kind of hardwood--funny. If you are intent on being surrounded by what American's consider "French style" (antiques, frilly furniture and linens, Louis XIV), well, then this isn't for you. It is a very clean and simple, extremely well-run accommodation that works beautifully and reliably. They do not allow storing or eating any food in your room, so you know, but I believe you can eat any of your market purchases outside by the pool. :-) I chose half-board, with all of my breakfasts and dinners taken at the hotel. Breakfast offers eggs, meats, cheeses, yogurts, baked goodies, fruit, juices, etc. And dinner? There is nothing better than coming back from touring, taking a dip in the pool, enjoying a nice shower, then wandering downstairs for a fabulous dinner. You can drink as much wine as you want, and you don't have to worry about navigating unfamiliar narrow roads back to your hotel in the dark -- you just stumble back to your quiet room. And the FOOD -- the chef is a true artist. Everything I had was fabulous, with a presentation that one would expect in expensive, big-city restaurants. While the tabletops are casual, the food most definitely is not, and it was the highlight of my visit. (I might add that there were unfortunately some mosquitos this early June as the evening went on, so keeping that in mind I started dining earlier rather than later -- I think they offer 7pm to 8:30pm hours to begin your meal, but your table is pre-reserved and you can show up whenever you are ready.) A great place, that welcomed my back for my 2nd visit as though I were family. Merci beaucoup to all, and especially to Jean Pierre and Natasha who did so much to make me feel welcomed and gave special attention to my every need and desire. PS- there seem to be countless routes into Roussillon, and GPS is determined to send you winding through the hilltop village itself (the hotel is at the bottom of the hill). For a more direct route from the D900 (which is wider and easier to drive than the route that skirts Gordes), turn at the D108 to Roussillon (which is at the roundabout that has a road going off to Pont Julien and Bonnieux in the opposite direction from Roussillon). When you come to the stop sign (parking lot on your right), turn right, and you are just a couple yards from the hotel's driveway (they have a huge sign at the driveway, which is on the right side when coming from my directions or from the village). If you turn left instead and find yourself heading uphill (towards the village) you goofed: turn around. If you drive through the village from the other direction (i.e. from Joucas or Gordes) just keep your eyes out for the small posted signs in Roussillon that point towards the hotel at every intersection. You'll eventually find it, one way or the other. :-)

I stayed two nights here on a week long biking tour through Luberon. I arrived in a bit of a hot mess (considering the heat wave that was going on and biking around the hills for 6 hours) and the receptionist was so sweet and helpful, and assisted me into my room ASAP to shower and head to the pool. Jean the owner was personable and helped me with any questions I had about biking through the area. The staff are close, and are pretty much like family. Majority of them live either on the property or very
near. Wonderful experience, wonderful people, excellent service!! The restaurant food and breakfast were also good quality.

The only little criticism I have: toilet faced the shower curtain, it's literally right in your face and your feet are pretty much in the shower area (no tub). I don't know if all bathrooms were like this, or if I was lucky and got the "special" one. :) DEFINITELY NOT a deterrent for me. Had a great time here, hope to come back!
