We had such a lovely stay at Hotel la Cle. First of all, if you want to experience the small town Provençal life, Hotel la Cle with its close proximity to the hilltop towns of Rousillon and Gordes, offers a great base. Second, the hotel's location itself is picturesque. The Apartment Amandier had an awesome view of the ocre mountain and the landscape that's truly made for movies. We were two families and our very young children enjoyed hanging out in the patio and lounging on the chairs in their gardens. In the evenings when the kids were asleep, we hung out on the patio and had wine and cheese and whatever food we bought from the roving farmers market. The hotel had a list of the market day for each towns do we were able to plan out our days. The pool and hot tub were great bonus too. The hotel itself is lovely. Clean fresh linens and towels everyday. It felt like we were staying in a resort. On our last evening, the chef/owner cooked us such a lovely meal and with the view of the pool and surroundings, we were able to soak up the scenery and relax. It was such a lovely and peaceful place, I feel calm just remember it. I would highly recommend Hotel la Cle.

They were very accommodating to our very young family. Our group included a 6 yr old girl, 2 1/2 boy and a 1 1/2 girl. This was a perfect hotel choice for us.

One tip for finding the place: when looking up directions on Google Map, type the hotel's name itself, not the address. Typing the hotel gives you the most direct instruction on how to find it.

My wife and I really wanted to love Cle des Champs. The pastoral location is idyllic, and the property itself is resort-like, built around a stunning pool with a great view. The breakfast, while not included in the price that we paid, was also a highlight, served around the pool area and including access to a buffet, a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice, and the largest croissant I've ever seen.

Unfortunately, our room was a major disappointment, for two reasons: humidity and spiders. First, the humidity: despite running the air conditioner on full bore, our room had rather musty air, particularly after we showered. The air conditioning was difficult to program, with the target temperature often resetting upward in the middle of the night, causing the humidity to worsen, and adversely impacting our sleep. Second, we encountered three of the largest spiders we've ever seen in our room: one in the bathroom, one in the bedroom, and one which climbed into in my shoe. Between the spiders and the humidity, we did our best to avoid our room for anything but showering and sleeping!

Other minor nits: it was difficult to establish a connection to the wireless internet, and even when connected the speeds were very slow. Also, we had to boil our own eggs in conjunction with the included breakfast, and the device used to boil the eggs wasn't intuitive to use.

Thus, while we loved the property and its common spaces, we don't plan on returning to Cle des Champs in the future, for fear of receiving another sub-par room.

We took note of your comment and we thank you for it.

We are happy to know that the environment of the hotel and the breakfast pleased you.

We are going to take care of the air conditioning in the OLIVIER room where you stayed and make sure that this one will work better in the future.

About the spiders, at this period of the year they are here everyday, especially when it’s very hot outside they are seeking cold air inside the houses. The charm of our hotel comes from the fact that we are in the middle of the garrigue and it’s a very quiet place. Every room is on the ground floor which makes it easier for the insects to come in. There are not insects everywhere in the hotel but we understand that made you uncomfortable.

The WIFI doesn’t work well in all the hotel and we are working very hard on that problem to solve it.

About the breakfast, it’s a buffet with a lot of choices of different kind of food, and everyone is free to take what they want and everyone can take the time they need to eat that breakfast. There is always someone from the hotel available at the breakfast from 8:30 am to 11 am to help our clients if they to be helped and to serve the clients.

We just arrive in South of France, we bought this hotel the first of July and we are going to work very hard during the following months to make this place a better place for each of our clients and to make sure our service will be appreciate.

Best regards,

We loved our stay here! The hotel felt more like a peaceful resort. It is outside roussillon, surrounded by trees, but easily accessible. The view from the pool is amazing. We used the pool, jacuzzi and steam room and mostly had them to ourselves because the hotel is fairly small. Our rooms were clean, cool and comfortable and we slept very well. Breakfast was delicious and eaten poolside with the beautiful views. We did a lot of driving around provence and felt we were in one of the most beautiful parts. I will definitely be back to take advantage of cycling in Provence and will stay again at Hotel la Cle des Champs.

Staying here was a real highlight of our driving holiday through Provence. Situated just outside of Roussillon (with a stunning view of the hill top village and surrounding countryside), this retreat is simply beautiful. Great room, pool, gardens and communal areas. Even better from our host who accommodated and anticipated everything. A real gem. Stay here!

We stayed here for 5 nights and had a marvelous experience with La Cle des Champs. We came with our 2 young daughters and my mother and everyone had a lovely time. Giles and Monique are so incredibly hospitable and charming, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the bathrooms impeccable and large. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and ate at the hotel as often as we could. The grounds are lovely, the pool is perfect and the setting is central. We took day trips to Gordes, Lourmarin, and Avignon et al. Giles was very helpful with recommendations, reservations, and ideas for our little family to partake in Provence. As my mother said, this was the best vacation ever! Thank you Giles and Monique!

We stayed there for 4 nites. The owner and his staffs were vey friendly and helpful. Location was good, just 10 min drive to roussillon or gordes, very convenient. We liked to sit by the pool and do some reading or take a nap, or look at the starry sky at the little patio of our room. The room was clean though there was smell from the bathroom which made it not perfect. I will still recommend this hotel.

We stayed three nights at la Clé des Champs. From the minute we walked in we felt at home. The owner, Gilles, and his staff are constantly on hand and very helpful with ideas for restaurants and places to visit in the area. The bedroom was clean, light and airy; the bed was one of the best hotel beds we have ever slept on. Breakfast was copious and varied. A large glass of fresh orange juice and a croissant were ready on our table when we sat down. We ate dinner at the hotel on two evenings. Gilles's wife cooked a simple but imaginative meal. The wine list, local, was not long but perfectly adequate.

La Clé des Champs is ideally situated for visiting the Lubéron. Highly recommended.
