Echoing the comment below :" from the moment we arrived and had a personal show around the hotel, including meeting the hotel dog, we enjoyed every minute."

The receptionist and waiting staff were great- helpful, polite and able to give advice on walking options around the town.

There's a great little spa + pool and jacuzzi. Restaurant was very fine- especially for those of us who don't eat meat.

And the dog, if a little old, is very sweet.

Room Tip: Ask for one associated with a famous skier- the more famous the skier the better the room.

Very cozy and cute as all get out - but not too Alpy. Very good food, extremely helpful staff and a spa -yay! Comfortable bed and neat and clean bath with a soaker tub.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front face the street, but it is not an extremely rowdy ski town, so this was not a pro...

Nice experience in this hotel with walking distance to the ski station.
Hotel has a SPA, swimming pool, hammam very cosy and neat.

We had a set menu dinner: the food was good and the waiters are polite, available and pleasant.

Room Tip: Try to avoid Floor 1 as it is set on the street level. 2nd floor rooms have balconies, and a better...

First a criticism (in an otherwise very good review) which had I not seen it on Tripadvisor would have seriously spoiled our first night. The hotel closes at 11pm and there is no one on reception after then. As we knew this from reading a previous review on Tripadvisor, it was no problem when our flight was delayed and I was able to telephone the Macchi and the charming and helpful Michele gave me instructions on a code to open the ski room door/which number room was ours etc. Had I not known the hotel closed early we would have been sleeping in the car!

The Macchi is a charming chalet style hotel with excellent friendly staff, perfect kitchens, a superclean pool/jacuzzi/hamman and sauna and a really special Spa area. The massages are superb and very good value for money. The decor in the Macchi is individualistic - if you admire the sterile beige and white decor of so many modern hotels then the Macchi is probably not for you! The rooms are cosy and colourful. Our room was one of the smallest in the hotel but beautifully presented, quiet and clean. Our bed was amazingly comfortable!

The hotel minibus takes you literally door to door to any of the three main departure points on the Portes du Soleil. It is under a minute to Super Chatel, about 3 minutes to Linga and about 5 mins to Pre la Joux. So convenient! There is ski bus stop under a minute`s walk from the hotel for use on the one day per week there is no hotel minibus. The arrangement could not be more convenient for skiing. Having ski hire in the hotel is also a bonus and rental prices are very fair.

The hotel have a lovely golden retriever who is very friendly. Dogs are allowed at the hotel in all the rooms - so great for dog lovers - which is a real plus.

Overall I would recommend the Hotel Macchi for an excellent and very good value for money ski holiday.

That was not a bad place for a quick stop in Chatel. On the plus side a rather nice chalet decor, a good swimming pool and hammam, an excellent breakfast and, above all, a good and friendly service. On the minus side a small fitness place with a non working sauna, thin walls and a ridiculously narrow double bed (plus lots of kids... but some will find it a good point!!). So in our opinion, a good option for a short stay. We didn't try the spa that is looking rather nice.

Great welcome and showaround, pleasant south facing room with balcony (bathroom a little small but nicely done), log fire in the evening and staff smiling and greeting guests where ever you met them, including the car park when coming on duty. Jeremy in the restaurant was most professional and hospitable, along with the maitre d' - just one waiter with a pony tail who was not at the same standard as the others.

Well equipped ski room with boot heaters in the individual lockers made for easy coming and going and the ski bus was very convenient for guests. The chef/proprietor also manages the ski room and personally gave our skis a much needed service and the edges were very sharp for the hard conditions.

It really shows that the owners are fully involved in the day to day running of this lovely hotel and we are already planning another visit next winter.

Chose The Macchi based on tripadvisor recommendations, and am very happy to report that it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived and had a personal show around the hotel, including meeting the hotel dog, we enjoyed every minute. Our room was very comfortable with lots of storage space, a nice bathroom and seperate loo, comfy bed, and small balcony facing the front of the hotel. Housekeeping were great, and very kind in tidying up our bits and pieces on the occasion that our room was a little messy!
The food is truly brilliant, and we would highly recommend the dinner, bed and breakfast option. There is a set menu, but you can swap options with a sort of a la carte menu on the side - we never did as the food was so good. Loved having cheesey straws nibbles in the lounge area with a pre-dinner drink. Breakfast is lovely - there is a chef on duty to cook your eggs or pancakes in front of you, and lots of different hot and cold options.
We drove to Chatel and so didnt use the minibus service that takes guests to the lift each monring. It was a bit tiresome having to drive to and from the slopes each day, but free parking by the lift and in the hotel made it ok. Chatel the village wasnt anything that exciting - we went for a walk one evening and werent that enthused by what we saw.
The indoor pool was a bit chilly for us, and the jacuzzi didnt have any bubbles, but the steam room and sauna were really nice.
Cant wait to return next season! Thank you so much for an amazing stay.
