Just returned from a fabulous week staying at Penthouse Caribou. Accommodation is fantastic from the bedrooms, to well equipped kitchen, wi fi, fab views of Cret Beni. To top it all there is hot tub on the balcony. It was great having the owners next door as they are on hand for any queries you may have and give great advise on places to eat, apres ski etc. You would not know they are there :) Great skiing with access to all resorts in the Portes du Soleil. Can't wait for my next trip in March!!
I booked the Penthouse Caribou direct with Jacqui after someone on Airbnb recommended them as a self catered luxury accommodation, and I was so pleased, Jacqui was more than helpful with everything, including meal tips for the Family, directions and places to stay en route, she even sourced a real Christmas Tree for us to purchase.
Everything was perfect when we arrived on 23rd Dec 2017, La Chapelle is amazing and the views from the Chalet are second to none, there is everything you could possibly need for a family self catered stay and Jacqui also recommended restaurants and cafes, all were fab - Les Cornettes is a must!
However, on the 29th December 2017 Jacqui & Martin returned to La Chapelle from the UK and to the Chalet, they have rooms segregated within the Chalet, which is fine if that is what you think you are booking and paying for.
We as a family did not want this, we wanted to enjoy the privacy of an exclusive entire home rental for Christmas and New Year, we paid a large amount money for this and states in the contract "Entire Property".
Jacqui & Martin made numerous "pop in" visits for all kinds of reasons, and as there are no lockable doors they are free to be in the entire Chalet whether you are there or out and about - the visits were to put towels and bedding away, to get their ski stuff, to get to their larder, maintenance men etc. etc. It felt awkward for us, like we were in the way, and our last 8 days were not as relaxed as the first 6!!
Please not this is a very truthful review and I only write it as guidance, I cannot stress enough that the Chalet is perfect and others may not have a problem with sharing.
Please take the time to walk around the Chalet with Jacqui & Martin for existing damages when you arrive and insist on the same when you leave, I didn't, but I do take photos, I have and always will do this with rental properties (I have never had to keep a deposit from our rentals, neither have I ever had mine kept by Owners).
We nearly lost the deposit on the Penthouse Caribou to what we believe & know were existing damages (piece of wallpaper missing, broken pool cue, scratches to the dining room table, towels missing), it caused a lot of unnecessary heart ache for both parties and has spoilt for us, what was supposed to be a dream Christmas break. Jacqui did eventually give the deposit back, but it left a bad taste for us to be accused of things we didn't do, whether it was an over sight from a previous occupier, I have no idea..
Just come back from a weeks skiing, great place to stay. It’s was an impressive apartment/chalet that our group loved. There were 9 of us and so nice to have 5 bathrooms. Plus points, Wi-fi really quick, hot tub ( checked daily by owners ), pool table - spent hours having games, massive oven to cook in, great views and well equipped kitchen. Can’t think of anything to fault. Village has good range of bars and restaurants, ate out twice, but we just loved staying in as it was so nice. Icing on the cake was the great snow
Fantastic open plan living in the Caribou with stunning views across the valley. Large en-ensuite bedrooms, and superb facilities not often seen in ski chalets. Having already visited the Caribou in the winter, this was our first visit in the summer and is in an ideal location for walking, cycling and sight seeing. Local shops, including an excellent patisserie, are within a couple minutes walk and there are a number of fine local restaurants. We loved our short stay and will definitely visit again.
This was our second stay at the gorgeous Penthouse Caribou. Again we had a big group and the chalet was perfect- luxurious, an amazing host with lots of great ideas for activities. The brand new hot-tub went down a storm! We visited over summer and were so impressed with the amount of stuff we could do: hiking, canyoning, spa-days, great restaurants- we were spoilt for choice. Would definitely recommend coming here summer or winter!
Came here as it looked ideal for our walking holiday and we were not disappointed. It's a great base for a summer holiday in the alps. We took advantage of the Multipass to use the ski lift system, swimming pools and play tennis. It was good to have excellent accommodation to return to each evening. Stunning views from this large chalet. Inside there's so much space but it still remains cosy. It has everything and more that you need for a great holiday. Think we must have been one of the first to use the hot tub. Spent many a happy hour enjoying the bubbles. We will definitely return in winter to ski and it's got to be the only place we would stay. Owners were great and on hand to answer any questions we had.
Our annual girlie ski trip comes around so quickly. Its nice knowing that the set up at the penthouse is always the same and suits our needs wonderfully.
We had ALOT of snow this time around! We ate at the Fer Rouge (the restaurant above the micro brewery ) one evening, cooking our own meats on the hot rock was a real treat!
I just can't seem to tear myself away from staying here, it's so easy and cosy and the owners are always on hand with fantastic tips and advice. Thank you!
