“Better than two star, but beware not to Huff and Puff”
Reviewed 31 March 2013

Seems bare on arrival, place v quiet during the day. Quickly come to the opinion that although minimalist It is very clean

Rooms are basic, but adequate. Bathroom towels not highest quality, but consistent with 2 star

Location is good, a 5-10 minute walk uphill to the hub of the town centre and the super chatel lift (wouldn't fancy walking this in ski boots though). Decent parking.

The thing that I really noticed is how paper thin the walls and doors are. I can hear the occupants in the room next door going to the loo in the morning (and I don't just mean the toilet flush). Two gritting lorries went past at 4am and it sounded like that scene from Saving Private Ryan with the tanks trundling in

Overall it's fine, but I would prefer a bit of solid traditional ski lodge masonry for some of the walls and doors

If you're staying in Chatel, you must stay here. This hotel is under rated at 2* - we stayed in the Chanterelle room. It was spacious, cosy and very charming. We had a north facing balcony (not the first choice) but we still had a good view up the mountainside. The bathroom was spacious with a brilliant shower - just the ticket. Our rooms were made up every day with fresh towels - couldnt want for more. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The bar area is full of charm and very friendly and the restaurant provides gorgeous food in huge portions (avoid starters if you are not a BIG eater!!!).The free WIFI proves really helpful and there is a games room if thats your thing. The only thing it could benefit from is a drying room in the winter months - we kept our equipment at the rental shop overnight but if you holiday with your own kit, we found no drying room (we didn't ask though!!). It is about a five minute walk up the hill to the bus station and town centre so it is an ideal location. I would advise you enter into the ground floor of the multi storey car park and take the lift (six floors) to the bus station. Saves your legs for the slopes!!!

Cannot recommend this hotel enough and will definately stay again when I return to Chatel.

Room Tip: Chanterelle was sublime - next to the lift but you do not hear a thing!!!

We stayed here for a weekend in March and were lucky to find a room at late notice. The rooms are spacious and reasonably smart, if a little basic. The bathrooms are basic but very clean. The breakfast is a nice buffet and we also took one evening meal here, which was good value and pretty tasty. It is well located for the town and has lots of free parking, which is good if you want to drive to the bottom of the pistes, which we did. Overall, good value.

This is a nice hotel, located in the middle of the skiing resort in the Alps.

There are 3 types of the rooms in the hotel:
1) With the toilet/shower on the floor
2) With the tolet/shower in the room - not repaired (not very nice)
3) With the tolet/shower in the room - repaired (nice)

There is a free parking for cars just across the street. The skiing lift (I do not know how it is correctly called) is just 50 m from the hotel.

There are a lot of routes for hiking (in the summer period) close to the hotel.

The hotel itself is nice, staff is helpful and welcoming. The style of the hotel - skiing resort with old skiing shoes, some skiing equipment on the walls of the restaurant.

We stayed for 4 nights in this charming 2*hotel in early Jan - perfect for a ski break as traditionally a quiet week on the slopes. This week was no exception - we had the place to ourselves!
Great location and view, standard rooms are clean, warm & comfortable, bathrooms are dated. What this hotel lacks in modern amenities it makes up for in excellent food - breakfasts and evening meals are superb, served by efficient, friendly staff.
Having recently experienced a really dreadful hotel in Les Gets we cannot fault Le Castellan and would not hesitate to return. The ski area is fantastic too.

Travelling to Chatel early in Jan 09, post the New year rush, ensures empty pistes, no queuing and superb service. Chatel offers easy access from Geneva to the extensive Portes du Soleil area
We decided to return to this hotel 2 years after our first visit and were not disappointed. Yes the bedrooms are due for a refurbishment but are clean and warm and the public areas are lovely. At this price it is unfair to expect 5 star luxury.

The staff could not have been more obliging. We would definitely recommend eating in the resturant for dinner.

This remains a perfect option for a short ski break.

(I would avoid Germain Sports 2000 in the centre of Chatel for ski hire. We have had poor service and quality now on 2 occasions).
