“Good and nice looking hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2013

The hotel is very good in Greece but not 5 star hotel "in the western world". Rooms and pools are good, the breakfast is good, but the staff has 90% a little bit too "proud" attitude to the customers. There are 5 nice pools and one of them for adults only. Unfortunately all the customers can not read in English or they just don't care about this and the staff says nothing to them even though there are enough other pool areas for the noisy kids. Anyway a very good choice in Platanias.

Our apartment was lovely and spacious and very clean - The hotel was massive with lots of pools so never crowded and we LOVED the adult pool. Sometimes people reserved the sunbeds with towels despite the signs everywhere however we just moved them if that was the case! The room had little natural light but after a few days we were glad of this as it was a lovely retreat from the blazing hot sun. Air con was great. Food amazing and staff attentive and helpful. Especially Katriana one of the main greeters in the restaurant...We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Our apartment was to the left of the hotel past the bar and was really big with a seperate dining ar...

I have to agree with most of the reviews overall this is a good resort but definitely not 5 star. Pros: beautiful lobby, breakfast included, numerous pools, in the middle of everything so you can walk to tons of restaurants, shops and bars. Cons: twin beds pushed together, odd shower, room was not very modern or clean, tried to attend yoga but no one could tell me were it was the entire week we were there, the beach is small and over crowded. What made the trip for us was hanging out at the lobby bar with Panos who is the friendliest and nicest bar tender. He made the best drinks and you have to try his fresh piña coladas! There is a market right next door were I was able to get gluten free bread and water which we were able to keep in our fridge in our room.

Room and especially the bathroom were very small. No toiletries provided and was even hard to get extra soap. Housekeeping was very basic. Expected more ground space. There were many swimming pools but beds round it were very close together and area becamed quite congested. Beds booked very early in morning. We thought it was dreadful to have to pay for beach beds. Staff were not always friendly.

We spent a week at this hotel at the end of June and we were very disappointed.
Firstly after a two hour delay we arrived at the hotel around midnight, we were checked in and led to our room with no information about the hotel, facilities, where to go for breakfast etc.
We had booked a sea/ garden view room and were told it was just look which we ended up with but guranteed they all had lovely views. What we were actually given was an underground room, with no view of the sea or garden but looking out on to the main road next door to a very busy bar which played mucis until 5 am in the morning. The view from our windows was the hotel walk way which was perfect level for everybody walking by to strare straight in to our rooms, which meant we spent any time in the room with all the curtains shut and no day light..
We reported the error to the hotel who were very unhelpful and just kept telling us this was the room we had booked and they couldn't move us as they were full. This was not the room we had booked and we had the paperwork to prove it but still we were not moved to the room we had booked.
On top of this there is one restaurant for you to eat if you are all inclusive, which is a buffet restaurant for all three meals. The food was poor, limited choice and was always luke warm never hot and none of the food was covered which meant flys were free to land on the food.
Also for all inclusive there is one bar in the whole hotel where you can get your drinks from, but if you want water there is an additional charge of 1euro 20..
We ate outside of the hotel 4 out of our 6 nights we were there, which completely defeats the object of all inclusive but was the best option..
The pools were nice, and we managed to get sunbeds even later on in the morning around the adults only pool. But the adults only pool wasn't adults only and children were free to use it when they wanted.
The rooms were cleaned daily and clean towels were available eveyday.
The beach was nice, if you stick to the left hand side imediately in front of the hotel then the sea is lovely, but the further you head down the beach its very rocky and difficult to get in to the water as the rocks are so slippy..

Overall we were very disappointed with our holiday from the start. We chose this hotel as it was 5* but I would rate this as a 3* at the most.
Poor food, unhelpful staff, limited bars and places to eat ( if you choose all inclusive), and over priced for the actual standard you find.. I would not recommend this hotel.

WE went as a family with 3 generations so it would be hard to please us all BUT it DID.Room a bit small but don't. Go on holiday to stay in room lovely view from balcony of sea and greek life and could hear tbe church bells and sea we had sidesea view room 309.Didn't use the pools much as the sea provided us with varied conditions from calm to still to surf so loads of fun.The food was alright its a case of communicating and tben you get what you want and don't be afraid to as the chefs and waiters are only to pleazed to help so if you want a well cooked piece of meat simply ask the grill chef DONT let other in a hurry holiday makers dictate your taste and pace. All the staff are friendly and reaxy to help.Ask for a kettle if you don't have one then you will. The cleaners did a fantastic job.WEALL LOVED IT. And easy to travel to other places such as chania old town.

Room Tip: .Side sea view

There were some highs and lows during our recent stay at this hotel.

Pros: The lobby is beautiful and they have two pools. Breakfast and dinner were included in the price of the room. They have a free private parking lot across the street. The hotel sent us champagne, fruit and flowers since it was our honeymoon. This hotel is in a good location. It's within walking distance of stores, restaurants and supermarkets. There is a snorkling boat that will take you towards the nearby island) right outside the back of the hotel- it's really fun! I suggest you go!

Cons: It was our honeymoon (as I just mentioned) and we had to sleep on two hard twin beds that had been pushed together - not very romantic. There was a LOT of noise at night. Kids (there are a lot of kids here) outside screaming, rolling carts in the hallway, chatty maids, etc. The TV in our room was the size of a computer monitor (17 inches? maybe 19) and it got three channels. The food is very BAD. During my stay I got food poisoning resulting in vomiting, diarrhea, fever and chills. When we reported this they offered us a spa credit. (note: the spa was nice). The shower is strange. Every time we tried to use it, we'd get water all over the restroom. The beach is not a nice beach. You're much better off driving a bit. Crete has some amazing beaches. I suggest Falasarna!

Sofia K, Manager at Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa, responded to this review, 18 July 2013
Dear guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for your preference toward our hotel "Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa".

Furthermore, we would like to inform you that we just read your review about our hotel and we would like to thank you for your useful comments.
However, we want to express our point of view on some of your problems you mentioned .
First of all, we would like to clarify that we have not been informed from your travel agency about your honeymoon before your arrival, in order to make our standard arrangements as honeymoon guests. In these occasions we place in the room a bottle of champagne, a fruit basket, walnuts with honey, strawberries with chocolate sauce and whipped cream, small fruit tarts, flowers and we offer our guests a gift voucher from our Spa for 2 free spa entrances. As soon as you informed our guest relation manager about your special occasion, we offered you all the above. Therefore, the free spa entrance we offered you and your husband, was not according to your complaints about food, but it was as a standard procedure for our honeymooners guests.
Regarding your comment about the bed , we would like to inform you that most of our rooms have 2 single beds, and when we have a request for a double bed, we place an extra thick mattress on top, and we transform the two bed into 1 large double bed ˙but unfortunately we were not informed about this request either.
Further, according to the “food poisoning” that you mentioned in your critique, we would like to inform you that more than 600 people ate dinner that day in our restaurant, including your husband , and no one complained about any problems. Thus, we believe that either you have been infected by a virus or something else you ate outside the hotel caused you a stomach problem .
For any further information you may require we always remain at your disposal.

Kind regards,

Sofia Kapaki
