“Great location, pool, and staff - rooms could be updated”
Reviewed 28 June 2010

The good: Great location. It's in Fira Stefani, which is about a 10-15 minute walk downhill to Fira town. This is good, because it is quieter, and probably cheaper - and not a bad walk along the caldeara. (no Heels in Fira!) There are also several restaurants within 5 minutes and a market if you don't want to go into Fira town, as well as a bus station. The views are fantastic. The pool is one of the largest (from what I could tell) on the Caldera (cliff side) - about 20 metres long, with plenty of sun beds. The staff was also very helpful - with cars, hotel and taxi bookings, maps - everything. We found that the shower nozzle in our bathroom was broken upon arrival - they had it replaced within 45 minutes! Very friendly bar and breakfast staff also. The breakfast was good - hot eggs, fresh tomato & cucumber, bacon and sausage, cereals, croissants, fruit, yogurt, coffee. Could be a little nicer, but plenty of food.

The bad: The rooms could be updated, a lot. The beds are standard-european firm, but the bedding linens are a bit shabby. Likewise, the towels (both bathroom and pool) could be nicer. Likewise, the drain in the shower did not seem to work properly and the hair dryer kept breaking. For the price, I would expect nicer.

Still, based on the pool alone, I would recommend this place for couples and friends. I would not recommend this hotel for families. There is no kid pool - only a slightly shallower end. Also, due to the compact size of the hotel, there is not much room for children to run around, thus, unless your children are VERY well behaved, you will probably get mean looks frm the honeymoon/anniversary couples. However, they have a sister hotel (Miramar?) that is very nice on the beach and has several pools suitable for children.

Arrived at the Belvedere late evening to not a good start. There was a problem with our room, so we had to stay the first night at another hotel down the road. However the morning after the porter carried our bags back and the manager apologised and upgraded our room to a lovely suite with a view, i have to say " to die for". Could not fault this hotel at all. The rooms were kept spotless, The breakfast was always lovely and fresh with a varied choice to suit all. All the staff were friendly. The location of the hotel is perfect to explore the island. We did hire a quad bike which was great fun. On our last day we had to check out at 12 but our flight was late evening. The manager very kindly let us have a room for free! You will not be disappointed with this hotel

We spent 2 nights at the Belveder. The hotel is situated right into the side of the cliff overlooking the caldera. The views are amazing. The location is perfect just a few minutes walk to all the shops and restaurants in Fira. The Staff was excellent. We arrived by overnight ferry at 6 am. Needless to say our room wasn't ready. We were just planning on dropping off our bags, but they found an available room and let us stay there till our room was ready. When our room actually became available they upgraded us to a much larger room with a huge balcony overlooking the caldera. The manager, Soltiris, was great with helping us get around the island, spots to see and good restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel. Don't expect 5 star facilities. This is a local hotel on a tiny island. The rooms are nice and clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.

NIkkos was an amazing host and made our stay on Santorini one of the most memorable trips we have ever been on. From restaurant suggestions to the old monastery where you felt like you had been swept back in time! Great location, views and service!

I have to say, sitting in a chair, poolside from this hotel was absolutely one of the most quieting, serene and beautiful things I've ever done. The view of the caldera is jaw droppingly stunning. Everything on the outside of this hotel was perfect. The rooms, the service and the food were what I'd call average. We booked a room with a view and got stuck with an interior room our first night which is never a good thing. They moved us the next day but I hate it when hotels do that, especially at the rate we paid. Some of the staff, like the Russian waiter were awesome, others mildly unhelpful.

The location is great, but very quiet. It's a 15 minute steep cobblestone walkway to Fira town. That walk is stunning, though and allows for awesome sunset strolls. It's quiet and out of the way, so perfect if that's what you're looking for. If you want to be a little closer to town I would stay in Fira, though. Getting around is easy, especially if you go anywhere to rent an atv or buggy.

Overall, I thought the Belvedere was grand, but pricey for what you get in terms of room and service. I think you can replicate the view and feel at almost any hotel in Firastefani or Fira. Though it did have a larger pool, albeit chilly, than everyone else.

As for whether to stay in Oia or Fira, I think it's a toss up, but I think if I did it again I'd pick Oia. It's further away from everything else on the island but the town has so much more to offer than Fira. Fira is more backpacker bar and party, while Oia is more romantic but sometimes touristy.

We stayed at the Belvedere for 4 nights while in Santorini, based on tripadvisor reviews. This is by no means a luxury hotel. However, if you are looking for a nice hotel, with charming rooms that give you an authentic feel of Santorini, that are spotless with one of the best views on the island, this is your hotel. The hotel staff are very accommodating, especially Sergio and George. The view from the pool is one of the best in Fira and many group tours stop just outside the hotel to take pictures of the view. The location is great with many restaurants and shops within walking distance and the bus stop to Oia is just up the path about three minute's walk. The hotel pool could use some updating and the loungers need to be replaced, otherwise, a great little place in the heart of Fira.
