“Fantastic Location & wonderful Hosts”
Reviewed 18 November 2011

We stayed at the villa in September and had a great R&R 3 days. The owners George & Pauline&staff Tracy were very obliging to all queries and organizing extra requests. Firstly, the location is wonderful, pleasant walking distance to the main town of Fira and great eateries on the way, like Simos Tavern (recomm by George). We had balcony view which was great looking at the caldera and the pool just below had an amazing view of caldera & cruise ships...esp in the evening. We had a wonderful wine tasting selection poolside which was FANTASTIC! Sampling the wines of the island and eating nibbles & cheese overlooking the caldera.. life doesn't get any better than that! On the day of my husband's birthday, Tracy had written a note & left yummy choc in the room. Very special place with beautiful, interesting hosts. Will be back!!!

Room Tip: balcony view is just as nice as poolside!

Our first impression - wow - what a view !!
We spent hours on the balcony with a drink in hand watching the cruise ships below us.
The room was comfortableand clean, if a little cramped. But who cares - look out the window !
George and Pauline were the perfect hosts and made us feel most welcome.

My family of 4 (kids 9&12) had a great time in Santorini and Villa Ilias. We spent 4 nights at the end of Oct and it was the perfect way to unwind prior to heading back home from our lengthy holidays. Pauline and George are the most accommodating, helpful and friendly hosts, as were their gorgeous cats (say hi to Leo!). The rooms were clean, views superb and location perfect - a short walk to Fira and Imerovigli which we also explored.
We hired quad bikes and toured the rest of the island which my boys loved! Another day we took the cruise to Nea Kameni and walked its volcanoes.
We ate at nearby Simos Taverna which had yummy food at reasonable prices and of course had obligatory gyros in Fira town (we liked Gefsis, in the square, a corner shop) the best (and only 2.30euro).
We seriously hope to return one day and would not consider going anywhere else.

We landed at Santorini airport on October 12 which was already a couple of weeks after the tourism season started to quieten down.
With no accommodation booked, we were a little suspicious of that being offered by the girl at the accommodation desk at the airport, especially at 90 EUR per night.
BUT, it couldn't have been better!
It was away from the noise of central Thira (in Firostephani) and probably had a better view of the caldera.
The view from the balcony was second to none with views down to the cruise ships, caldera and an uninterrupted view of the sunset.
The room was very well appointed with a great bed and pillows and was cleaned daily.
The breakfast was a rather small variety of continental breakfast but of the highest quality; there was something baked daily such as quiche or a spinach and ricotta pastry. The yoghurt was fantastic.
The girls at the desk could not have been more helpful.
There are movies and boardgames for guest use.
There's a swimming pool (water was too cold when we were there).
The wi-fi was super fast and reliable.
There's a fig tree at the front of the hotel with the best figs ever!
It's about a 20 minute walk to the centre of Thira town but along the cliff-top, it's an incredible view and worth staying further out.
Restaurants nearby but more expensive than others in Thira.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which had an amazing view back to Thira town and over the swimming pool and cald...

I have been coming to Santorini for a number of years and I view Villas Illias is an excellent choice for location and vistas, quality of accommodation and friendliness of staff. Views of the Caldera from hotel rooms and pool are spectacular, from the most desirable vantage point on the Island. Every effort is made to keep the rooms to the highest standard both in terms of quality and cleanliness conveying ownership and staff's pride in the hotel and service. The hotel staff make every effort to accommodate all other activities and transportation on the island, as well, they are a wealth of knowledge on the history, culture, and amenities on Santorini. Breakfast is also excellent! This is one of the most peaceful and quiet locations on earth. I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay on Santorini.

Room Tip: Best views are in the deluxe accommodation

My wife and I spent four days at Villa Ilias at the end of September. This was a return trip and stay for us, as we had been there before in 2007. This time we were on our way back to the US after spending a week in Crete, and we just couldn't pass up making a stop in Santorini for some pure R&R. This time we stayed in the rooftop suite and it was wonderful. The room is a bit bigger than the one we stayed in last time (which was overlooking the pool), plus you have the rooftop all to yourself for sunbathing. As always, George and Pauline were wonderful hosts, and they have Tracy onboard now as a wonderful addition to the staff. Breakfast buffet was great, the views are still spectacular, and the complimentary sunset wine and pistachios are a nice treat. We will keep coming back. Thank you, George, Pauline and Tracy!

Hotel was on the highest point on the Caldera at Firostefani. Superb view from our room and the terrace. So high up! We booked one of the exclusive rooms with a full sea view. the room was compact but had all we needed. Comfortable bed, TV, coffee maker, fridge, hob if you wanted to cook. Breakfast was a lovely buffet in the reception area across the footpath from the main hotel. There was a lovely outside area where where you could eat under the bougainvillia. You could take breakfast to your room or the terrace. There was a small pool on the terrace and 5 sun beds and umbellas. There also were chairs where you could sit and sip wine watching the glorious sunsets over Thirassia island. See the photos on the hotel website they are 100% accurate. That is just what you get. George and Pauline were very welcoming.
There was a handy minimarket a few minutes walk away that sold most things. More serious shopping if you needed it could be done at the Carrefour in Thira. Eating out with a Caldera view was expensive. There were some good places a short walk up the hill to Imerogivili that were not as expensive. In Thira we ate twice at Zafora, near the cable car station.
We managed the walk to Ai. You do need walking boots. We found a good taverna on the way for lunch Taverna Irene. It is the about last watering hole along the walk . The path gets rougher after that and there is a scary bit along the road for a short way. Ai was amazing, so beautiful!
We hired a car for 3 days to do the southern part of the island. The buses serve all the island so if you had time you could use them. The fares were very cheap but the buses do get crowded.
Great hotel, great holiday!

Room Tip: The excusive room (No 1) had a fabulous view with sunset The side view rooms had shade in afternoons...
