“A wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

I stayed at Hotel Ira with a group of friends for several days. The staff greeted us by name but knew when we wanted to be alone. I felt cared for but respected at the same time. Breakfast on the patio was devine and the food was great. My room was inside the hotel and didn't have a view of the caldera. Yet, it was roomy, comfortable and quiet. The air flow through the two windows was perfect on a warm day. We had a front move through and it got chilly. The AC/heater worked well when I needed it. Location is perfect since it's away from the crowds from the cruise ships but close to restaurants.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the caldera are lovely but smaller. There are plenty of viewing platforms so d...

My boyfriend and I were on a 3 month European trip and this was probably our favorite hotel. We didn't book a caldera room like other reviews suggested, but we were not disappointed! Our room was quite large with a separate living area from the bed. We received a "welcome" carafe of wine - yes please!
The views from the pool are just stunning. I think this place has the best views of the island since you can see all of Fira town and a lot of Firostefani. Some of the reviews suggested a lot of uphill walking, so we were a little worried since we wanted to relax after a ton of walking around other euro cities. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the walking was extremely easy from the main Fira town to the hotel. Plus the hotel isn't necessarily "out of the way" - there's still shops and restaurants leading all the way up to the hotel.
Maria at the front desk was extremely helpful, booking us a car one day and also a catamaran cruise another day. She never seemed to get sick of our endless questions about the island (and all the other Greek islands for that matter). Such a sweetheart and really hooked us up with how to get the most out of our vacation.
The breakfast was also our favorite in all of Europe (after suffering through sugary cakes and cookies for 2 weeks in Italy). We were happy to find a different type of hot egg dish, hot meat dish, little pies filled with spinach or something different each day, toast, fresh fruit, tomatoes cucumber and olives, meats and cheeses, and some pastries that were actually delicious and tasted home made. Aaand if you like coffee they will make you a fancy coffee drink on the spot behind the breakfast bar.
It was the perfect place to rest our dusty euro feet after a long time of travel. I almost burst into tears as we were leaving. Seriously.
Oh and I almost forgot - the sunsets - omg! Don't go to Oia. Watch them from one of the many rooftop terraces at the hotel or from the pool area. Some of our best pics (Ok go to Oia once to watch the sunset, just for the "experience.")!
Love this place! Will heavily recommend to family and friends.

Room Tip: We booked a standard cave room and were satisfied. If you're on a budget this is a fine option a...

This hotel was a little out of the way but worth the walk. The room was clean and comfortable but the real drawcard was the view, especially from the lovely pool. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. Although the hotel was outside the main part of town there were restaurants nearby and a bus to the other end of the island.

We were not disappointed with the beautiful view and the lovely room- glad we booked the Caldera view. Room was clean and very nice touch with the spa bath.

We didnt really get to know the staff as we only stayed one night, however we thought that a few areas of the service could have been improved. Such as, we had an early ferry at 9am booked and were told breakfast only opened at 8 (we have to leave by 8.15am), and the impression we got was ' oh thats a shame' rather than trying to find a solution so that we could eat. We felt quite unimportant. Positively though, the lady in the kitchen had prepared the food 10 mins early so we were able to eat and she was lovely.

Also something that annoyed us was they charged 10 euro per person to go from Fira to the port, where as all other hotels we have stayed at on Santorini and other Greek Islands offered this complimentary- yet we spent more on 1 night at Ira than we did a week at our other hotel which had better service. Hmmm

All in all, it is a very beautiful hotel, but would I pay the same amount again, no probably not

Beautiful island, lovely hotel. Almost a cliffside room, small balcony looking over the whole bay/crater, and down the sides of the island. Well appointed, all the basics you could want. Excellent breakfast, fresh and hot. Short walk to the town centre and many excellent restaurants.

We spent four nights here and it was bliss. Hotel Ira is in a great location - in Firostefani, which is outside of the chaos of Fira (don't go to Fira when there are two or more cruise ships docked - the town is overrun by cruise ship passengers!), yet close enough to walk there.

We were upgraded on arrival to a junior suite, which was a nice surprise. Our room was on the top floor over looking the pool deck and caldera rim, with fantastic views of the island. It was a bit of an awkward set up, with the entrance and bathroom on the bottom floor, then up a sharp flight of stairs to the living area, with another 3 steps to the bed. Comfortable, and can't beat the view though!

Breakfast was great, with plenty of options to choose from, and of course you can head up to the terrace nearby for breakfast with a view. Maria at reception was fantastic, providing helpful suggestions of things to do (must do a catamaran tour round the island!) and and places to eat (Aktaion and Il Cantuccio - just off, and on, the square of Firostefani, respectively. Don't eat in Fira!).

But the best thing for us, was simple the pool deck with sun lounges and the pool with spa. We spent most of our days just relaxing, reading, going for a swim, looking out at view, watching the sunset; I never left a place feeling so relaxed!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a caldera rim view - waking up to that view in the morning is priceles...

What a great place! We hadn't been initially sold by the pics of the rooms and were VERY pleasantly surprised by how beautiful IRA was. Our room was lovely with a lovely balcony and VERY cute and clean!
The location was PERFECT! Very close to Fira but not too close to feel like we were in the middle of (what we deemed) the unpleasant overly touristic area. But with plenty of restaurants nearby and just 10 mins from Fira and very close to Imerovigly.
The hotel was also very private and had AMAZING views of the caldera. I really don't think we could've picked a better location.
The only thing to mention is that there wasn't much of hospitality from hotel... No drinks served by the pool and the managers didn't seem to acknowledge us much. That was totally fine by us and didnd't bother us one bit. But in case you look to be pampered by hotel staff, this will not be the case here..
