3 weeks on TA scrounging through review after review for places to stay while on our honeymoon. Arrived yesterday and paid the 18 euro for a pickup. Arrived and was greeted by both Filia and mixali (both speak perfect English - we are Greek Canadians so it didn't matter that much but thought to mention it for my TA friends who don't speak Greek). Junior/ydor suite is amazing. Cave - like room, white, with a mix of tradition and modern touch. Beds great. Ac/tv/room size /caldera view check check check and check. Beautiful patio right in front of your room to relax and view sunset (no need to drive to oia to see sunset as recommended by my friends). Bought a 7 euro bottle of local white wine at the local store which is 3 minutes away and watched the sunset from our terrace. Rented a car (55 euro including full insurance per day) and drive down to ammoudi bay to eat on our first night as recommended by mixali. Ate fresh grouper, local fava beans, kalamari, xoriatiki (village) salad, and litre of white - 103 euro. Expensive by Greek standards but in Canada $140 gets you the bare minimum at the keg :). Pool is small but most are here in santorini. We just used it for an hour while drinking champagne overlooking the view anyways. I don't know why this is only rated a 3.5 star
My advice = rent a car (not a gourouna/ 4 wheeler due to trickiness of roads, go to perivoli beach area to swim (black sand), bring a blow dryer since room doesn't have one, dont stress about this hotel and book stefani suites and continue to surf TA for your next island stop because this hotel and area is perfect. Vasili :). Ps. I'm Greek, born and live in canada and have a home in zakynthos where we visit every 2 years. I thought Zakinthos was the perfect island until I came to this paradise. Enjoy santorini paidia. I hope this review helped and I hope you aren't stressing like I was when I was searching TA for where to stay lol. Next stop = Naxos/Paros :). Reviews to come.
