Arriving off season in the Greek islands is perhaps less unusual as it might have seemed years ago, as the Santorini of 2014 has an extended season which now starts as early February. Our flight was in one of the propeller aircrafts probably a "Fokker Friendship" as one used to call them, and arriving at the small but cosy airport was fuss free and certainly friendly enough!

A short 10-15 minute taxi ride on the hotel pick up, and we found ourselves entering the main town of Fira and onto its suburb FiraStefani where we were dropped at the Mill Houses' car park on the main road, just a short walk down around 100 steps onto the beautiful Caldera's edge where the hotel is situated. Kind and fit porters carried our cases down for us whilst we checked in, got settled and were immediately overwhelmed by the breathtaking view which never ceases to impress. At any time of the day, there is a full view of the whole volcano and though the lighting of course changes this only adds variation to what must be one of the best views in the world.

The Mill Houses Elegant Suites as it is called has no more than a dozen rooms set in and around a small pool and reception area on this beautiful vista point of the Caldera. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a Honeymoon Suite which had a separate living area with kitchenette and sofa, all small but concisely set up in the cave house format. The rooms are generally well installed with all necessities and comforts, whilst toiletries are by Bulgari. Each morning, a full and satisfying breakfast was brought to the room with the choice to take it out on the balcony or in the room.

The bed linens were of good quality and movies were available to watch via an ingenious USB device which connected effortlessly in plug-and-play fashion to the television.

Service was very accommodating and helpful and car rental was arranged without any fuss as was any information we needed about neighbourhood restaurants or other attractions. Mill Houses was also charging what was a very reasonable price for its off season rate.

Overall an extremely enjoyable off season visit to Santorini, very much enhanced by an accomplished residence.

Amazing place, very kind staff. I would say it is one of the best views you can get in Santorini. We were lucky to get a good rate in mid season (April 2012). Good breakfast, view, swimming pool. Prepare yourself for the stairs.

went their for my honeymoon and booked the honeymoon suites. the food was great (the presentation was spectacular). the view was breathtaking and the hospitality was outstanding. my special thanks to Nenad and the manager, Nefeli who made sure we had a comfortable stay. the bvlgari toiletries were very much appreciated by my wife.

now to the bad part, the honeymoon suite deserved to live up to its name. the rooms were too small with basic amenities and definitely not value for money. if you must seek bigger rooms, then go for mill house suite, which 'I' felt looked a little cramped too. the photos on tripadvisor and even on their website were a little misleading and the rooms appeared to be larger.

if you have made a plan to stay here, please book a larger suite. cheers :)

Room Tip: do not choose honeymoon suite

The hotel is set in an ideal (in my opinion) location in Santorini where the spectacular view (which is what you look for when you visit the island) is one of the strongest points of the hotel. The service was excellent, the rooms as we wished for, the distance from Santorini centre not very long ( you can go at Fira by foot), the food of very good quality and the view simply amazing!!!

Mill Houses is a hotel in a good distance from Fira, close to restaurants, bars and cafes but not so close as to be bothered by the noise. Our room had an amazing view and was the ideal place to enjoy our breakfast every day. The staff was very friendly and available at all times to satisfy every request. They helped us organize a cruise to the volcano and a visit to the ancient Thira. They also recommended very nice restaurants and places to have fun in general.
The 10 days we spent in Santorini were some of the most beautiful of our lives and Mill Houses was one the nicest hotels we've ever stayed.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and wish it could've been a memorable stay.
I contacted the hotel in advance about their airport teansfer. The e-mail communication was smooth cinfirning our pick up.
As soon as we exited the airport we saw the driver holding the Mill Houses sign.
The drive was about 15 mins to get to the hotel. I have to agree with other reviewers who said the steps to the hotel is challenging, especially in the rain.
We booked a junior suite room and found that its size is smaller that we had expected.
The bathroom was also small and there was no shower curtain, so the floor was very slippery after we showered.
Our room had a large window facing the caldera, and the view was unbelieveably amazing.
The breakfast is another special treat. We filled out a sheet with our choice of breakfast menus and they brought it into our room every morning.
The hotel restaurant was closed for the season and the nearest restaurant is in downtown Thira. Thankfully, Simos Taverna (about 5 mins walk) was a great place to get food.
Our impression of the hotel was, super friendly staff, great location and view, what a breakfast.
It could've been a better experience if the bathroom was updated, had continous running hot water, staff had some suggestions for food delivery since the restaurant was closed, tv can be upgraded and had strong signals, and though the internet was free, the bandwidth was poor.

Additionally,  I can't recommend anyone come to Santorini in December. During our stay, most of the restaurants, cafes, and small shops were closed for the season.
I'd say about 50% of the hotels were also closed and not open until April. If you are expecting to capture glimmer of lights in the evening, you will just see dark builldings.
I had high hopes to capture images of this most renown Greek island, but the weather was so horrible. Cold, windy and rain.
The local bus was easy enough to get to go around the Island. It was also the least expensive transpiration. However, due to low season,  it goes every 2 hours.
If you decided to get a taxi,  they didn't use the meter. Make sure you negotiate the price before you get in. Ask your hotel for the current rate.
I'd agree that the view of the caldera was unbelievably amazing.

Dear guests,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Ιt is really pleasant to accept reviews which are designed to help us be better in the future for you. The individuality of the caldera in addition to the hotel's location is what primarily determines the size of the rooms. We have tried to take advantage of every inch of the rooms on the benefit of our guests in order to make your stay as intimate as it can be. We wish you the best and hope to welcome you in the future during the Greek summer period so you can have much more options during your visit.

Τhe Mill Houses team.
