Stayed with my daughter last week, and although I had checked all the previous reviews on trip Advisor, I must say I was very pleasantly surprised! The rooms are spartan, but clean and functional, with air con and a fridge, good shower and genreous balcony. The staff, led by Paolo, are all very nice and helpful and you feel at ease.
There is free wifi in the comfortable lounge, a large nice pool with plenty of sunbeds and a well-stocked pool bar. The airport transfer time is approx. 30 min, and they offer to pick up and take you for 20 euros. The 7 km long, gorgeous black beach is 200 m away... What more can I say? Oh yes, did I say we loved it? !

Room Tip: Ask for a poolside, first floor room.

Stayed at Gardenia from 8th July for two weeks, on this our second visit to Perissa having got married there 5 years ago.
The hotel is in a great location very near the main road and a short stroll to the beach. The rooms themselves are basic greek style with limited self catering facilities but knew this before I booked and don't cook on holiday anyway, beds were comfy and unusually we had a double in our vary spacious room. Free aircon was a welcome bonus .The room was cleaned everyday with towels and sheets regularly changed. The pool area was fine, but usual towels on sunbeds I'm afraid !
Christo at the pool bar served you in his own leisurely pace and always enjoyed a chat, bbq nights were excellent value for money at 10 euro with as much wine as you could drink.
Lots of tavernas nearby and a few bars, Meltemi, Bobs bar and Dorians .
Found a couple of great places for breakfast, Margaritas in Perivolos, use their sunbeds free after eating and on our last day( always the way ) found a gem of a place ran by a Scottish couple where we got smoked salmon with scrambled egg ( a little different from the usual full English !) Called " Anvli " ?? on the main road next to little eataly.
Overall we enjoyed our repeat visit , especially our great company who made our holiday extra special by joining us for a reunion, Happy times:
Will go back again as this place is special to us but will try different accommodation as there is lots to choose from.

We stayed for one week. The rooms are very basic but clean. A small moan is that the cleaners start early and woke us up each morning (we were near one of the cleaning cupboards with supplies). Otherwise it is a quiet hotel. Breakfast is very, very basic (boiled egg, packet sliced cheese and ham). Couldn't some options such as a few tomatoes (grown by the hotel) and some feta cheese, and some fruit other than oranges (which are lovely) be added for some variety?

The pool is deep and the gentleman working at the bar is really friendly. He also grows many of the plants for the hotel such as tomatoes and melons (he is a very keen gardener and interesting to chat too if you like gardening). Reception staff are polite and helpful (and in particular the gentleman from Italy). The hotel is ideally situated as it is not on the main road but within five minutes of the shops in the town in one direction or the beach in the other. There are some really good restaurants facing the beach; none are poor and several are excellent. In town there is a 24 hour bakery with some wonderful breads, pies, cakes etc. Their fresh juices are cheap and fantastic! (Come out of the hotel and turn right onto the main street; turn right again and it is 5 minutes away down a road on the left).

On Friday night's the hotel hold a BBQ for only 10 Euros each. It is a bargain! Lovely food with freshly made salads and wine included! Finally, the bus services to other parts of the island are cheap, large, and regular. I would suggest doing these yourself rather than paying a lot extra through a tour company.

Room Tip: Don't chose a room near the cleaners' cupboard if you want to get up late!

Situated on a side road five-minutes walk from the beach and two-minutes from a number of bars, restaurants and a supermarket the Gardenia could be considered well-placed. Its a quiet hotel too despite being opposite the Water Park so no complaints there either.
Once you get to know the staff (family) they are really friendly including Christoph who manages the pool bar throughout the day. Please note he doesn't clearly advertise that he makes snacks at the pool so ask for a menu and give him something to do. Friday night is BBQ night and for 10 euros per person there is an ample spread of salad, chips and meat and the opportunity to taste the free local wine. It doesn't really meet expectations when sat at the side of the pool and a short spot of improvised Greek dancing by Christoph is the highlight of the evening. We went on Friday 20th July and around forty attended but it was nothing more than a drink with our friends, a bite to eat and then bed.
The pool is nice and quiet too although we went prior to the children's holidays in the UK so that may alter in August.
Our room (No29) was ground floor and with a stretch of the neck we could see the pool but mainly overlooked a wasteland but non-the less it was private. It was relatively clean but tired and the cutlery to support our self-catering holiday was limited and old. The worktop twin ring cooker had been hand painted to look like an upgrade but hey-ho we never used it anyway.
The TV boasted three channels of which one was a rotating band of lines but we don't go on holiday to watch the TV I suppose.
After getting over the shock of first impressions we settled into the room and accepted that the mixer shower with nothing to hold it on the wall was quaint rather than an issue. The maid changed our towels and tidied up daily but with its old Greek furniture and basic amenities it did fall a little short of what we expected for the money and from a holiday with the Thomas Cook group. A plus is the free air-conditioning which when the temperatures rose was a very welcome part of the room. Our friends had what may be considered a worse room than ours in different ways but we all laughed and generally got on with it.
In conclusion - don't expect the world from this hotel but take it as it is and enjoy the hard earned holiday that you've saved for. If you choose to raise any issues with Diane the Thomas Cook representative don't hold your breath and it may be that her filing cabinet is a shredder.

Room Tip: Most rooms don't have any prominence or great views but room 28 would be adjacent to the pool at...

We stayed there for a week in July and I've had very mixed feelings about this hotel.
On arrival check in was simple. No passports needed just needed to say our name and the key was ours. We stayed on a self catering basis the room had 3 beds and was quite large. Nice balcony but view of nothing but wasteland which was a shame. I've read lots of reviews about how clean the rooms are here but I disagree. The toilet was dirty as was the bathroom bin and the lid didn't spring up. The taps were corroded to the point of being bare (yes that's the salt water) but really need changing. The sink also had several cracks in it. Shower was the usual Greek affair and constantly went from hot to cold, resulting in shower time being dubbed the Santorini shuffle. There were plenty of towels daily but half were always yellowed, rough and ragged. Fridge was welcome if a bit noisy but nothing else apart from a kettle worthy of self catering but who comes away to cook anything anyway? Luckily! The air con was free and really effective. The safe was in the room too but some rooms didn't have one and it was in reception.
The reception guys were always so friendly one guy was really lovely.
Bar guy was one of a kind, he would serve you when he was ready and don't bother looking at the menu, it's toasties or nothing lol.
The pool area was lovely and the sun beds were better than even some 5* hotels we have stayed in.
The location was great, quiet road between the beach road and the main road. 2-3 mins walk to the lovely beach and great restaurants. Perissa is fantastic and the hotel didn't cloud anything about how much we loved our holiday. Will definitely be back to Perissa just not sure if it will be the Gardenia which is a shame as it could be really great if they just spent a bit on it to update it.

Returned from one week here yesterday. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. Continental breakfast with enough choice to not go hungry - bread, toast, cake, eggs, cereals, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt etc and an endless supply of tea and coffee. The pool was clean with sufficient sunbeds and a nice bar area for drinking and dining - reasonable prices and always served with a smile. The room was a good size with great views from the balcony. We had a fridge and air conditioning at no extra charge. The bathroom was a bit basic but did the job. Free wifi in the lobby/lounge area. Being a small hotel we met a lovely group of people. Overall a great relaxing holiday experience

Just returned home after a 2 week stay at The Gardenia.I know Greek apartments are basic,we have been travelling there for nearly 15 years to various islands,so we know what to expect, but these have to be the most basic yet.In the kitchen there was only a cold water tap,so we had to fill a washing up bowl with hot water from the bathroom and carry it into the kitchen.
We asked to have the peddle bin replaced in the bathroom as the lid would not lift with the peddle,we had to use our hands. As these are used to put used toilet paper in it is not very nice.It was changed but the replacement was just as bad.
Whoever says it is spotless must have been very lucky. It was very windy while we were there so I except it gets dusty, but there was dust under the bed which was there the full fortnight.
The pool is really lovely. The views of the mountains at the back are stunning. The pool is very clean but the tiled area round the edges could have done with a hose down.
The furniture on the patio was awful.I've never seen anything like it.I don't think we will be returning to The Gardenia.
