“Our Villa at Cote Sud was wonderful!”
Reviewed 6 August 2010

Our Villa at Cote Sud was wonderful! It was right on the beach and above a great Greek restaurant that our two boys loved. The apartment is two bedroom two bath upstairs downstairs and is nicely decorated, well equipped with most modcoms (including air conditioning) and is very spacious. Because the Villa is part of the Meltemi Hotel Resort there are some additional perks that come with this rental. First and foremost are Peter and Katerina who were excellent sources of information who also helped us arrange tours, restaurant reservations and baby-sitting. As part of the deal we received a voucher for a discount at a water-park just around the corner from the Villa which we used and when we weren’t at the beach, on a tour, or exploring on our own we were at the Meltemi’s beautiful pool (also part of the package). Our kids loved the warm water and playing with the other guest’s children and we loved being able to sit by the pool in the sun sipping iced coffee – a specialty prepared by the great server at the outdoor bar. When we return to Santorini we plan to stay at the Cote Sud again and highly recommended it to families who want attractive accommodations right on the beach that provides the means to prepare food for oneself but also gives you the convenience of walking downstairs and ordering a pizza if you so choose!

the hotel is one of the best i have stayed in on the greek islands. we had a suite which was beautifully decorated with the most amazing shower. The staff are all very friendly especially in the bar out the front of the hotel. Lots of lovely restaurants to eat in especially gods garden and ntomatino. Very chilled out resort.

Me and my mum stayed at the Meltemi Village in early July 2010 and we were really impressed. We had a great holiday and the apartments were very pretty and clean. When we arrived the lady on the reception desk made us wait until everybody else had been checked in before taking us to our apartment. At first we were a bit apprehensive as ours was the apartment furthest away from the main block and on the ground floor. However, we had a great room which was spacious and very quiet. We ended up really liking our apartment and the hotel was so lovely I'd definitely stay there again.
I have previously stayed in Tsilivi, Zante and thought Perissa was a similar resort. It isn't a party place, although there are lots of restaurants (pretty much all serving the same menu!), tourist shops and bars to choose from. We ate a few times at Charlinas which was excellent, right on the beach front and the owners gave us free drinks and snacks! Atlantis Island and Gods Garden were also good places to eat.

The beach at Perissa is great, although not a good choice for young children. The sand gets boiling hot and when you step into the sea its not sand but very slippery, uneven rock underfoot which drops away abruptly a few feet in so be careful! Glad someone told us beforehand otherwise I'd likely have bounded in and broken my neck.

We went with Thomson and booked the Volcano cruise and Simply Santorini excursions. Both were excellent but overpriced and be warned, Oia gets extremely packed and the tour guides make you come back to the coach before the sun finally sets which kind of misses the whole point of the excursion! The volcano cruise is excellent, best way to see Santorini is by boat. Don't wear light coloured bikinis in the hot springs, the sulphur will stain them!

The Meltemi Village is a picturesque, exclusive-feeling base to explore the island from. Overall, Santorini is a beautiful island and I'd love to go back.

I upgraded to a superior self catering appartment however I don't think this type of appartment exists so save your money. When we arrived we were told that we could have a nice room however there would not be any cooking facilities. The room did indeed look nice moving away from the traditonal Greek however as the week progressed it was clear that it was very Greek. Sockets that didn't work and the fridge ....well...we had 4 different ones and none of them worked... in the end we gave up as the hotel staff weren't keen on helping. If I had let this is would have spoilt my week on the island.

We were moved to the Hotel after an overbooking at the Meltemi Suites and we could not have been looked after better. The Thomas Cook rep Becca was an absolute pro and the nicest lady you could wish to meet. Due to the mix up she gave us a free trip to the sunset cruise as compensation. Thanks Becca x.
We were alocated Suite 62 with an outdoor private jacuzzi and hammock - the suite itself was of a very good standard with a great shower. Whilst the pool area got a bit busy with people enjoying their holidays the suites were set towards the back of the hotel grounds offering complete peace. Roy and Georgina were very helpful and kept up with my requests for the iron! The maids were very nice and helpful and we even had our jacuzzi cleaned 3 times during the week getting out the flowers and little buds blown down from the beautiful palms and vines overhead.
We only marked sleep quality a 4 because we found sleeping with the air con on a bit of a bind even tho it has a super quiet option on it - dry mouths and lips were the norm in the morning!!
The breakfast was always well stocked and even if there was something 'out of stock' that is all I had to do was ask and it would be replenished. We did not use the pool bar much as we are out and about types but the bar at the front of the hotel was lovely and we always had a nice welcome there when stopping for a drink, they even fixed us a fresh ham and pineapple pizza even though I put a time limit on it as we were being picked up for our trip in half an hour - the best!
We will definately return again - laid back, friendly, genuine staff - beach not too far away 150 yds or so same with the local super market. No pavements opn main roads but never had a problem just use common sense, walk on side of road where traffic is travelling towards you not from behind. Simples.
Thanks again to all the staff at this fantastic resort - we had a blast! Adam and Emma Whitehouse.

I have just returned from a weeks holiday in the Meltimi and I have to say that the studios, grounds and pool area are all exceptionally clean and well maintained. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We booked the sunset cruise at the reception which cost 35 euros each as against 69 euros if we had booked this trip through Thomson. Excellent value for money and the boat wasnt overcrowded. The studios are quiet small and basic but adequate. The pool area was lovely and always plenty of sunbeds available. Hotel in a good position only five minute to the beach with plenty of bars and restaurants.

I looked at other reviews prior to going on this holiday and did go to Gods Garden on three occasions and I would recommend this restaurant. The special menu which included: Greek Salad, Mixed Grill or Lamb and a litre of wine was approx: 19 euros for two people. They had an extensive menu and main courses were approx 6 euros. This restaurant is only a few yards from the hotel, turn right when you come out of the hotel and it is the first left turning. I would also recommend the 24 hour bakery which again was turn right out of the hotel and approx 5 minutes walk, excellent cakes, pastries, pies, bread etc. Also, BIG supermarket next door to the bakery.

We got about on the bus which was very reliable we never waited more than a few minutes. We went to Thira which was a lovely place to see the sunset in one of their many restaurants, it was 2 euros on the bus and took approx. 30 minutes. We also visited Oia which you can get to on the bus but you need to go to Thira and then change buses this was 3.40 euros in total but well worth the visit. It is much cheaper to do this and go when you want to and come back when you want to instead of booking expensive trips through the tour operator. I would also recommend Kamara which is the next bay and you can get their either by water taxi or bus, again, on the bus you need to go to Thira first and then change buses. We went to Kamara one evening and their is a lovely promenade with plenty of bars and restaurants.

We stayed at the Meltemi village for a week in june this year having booked a late deal through Thomson. We decided to stay self catering as thought it wasnt worth paying the extra for the usually very average buffet breakfasts in such places. Instead we got fresh bread and pastries from the local bakery which were delicious.
The Meltemi village is just a short 5 minute walk from a lovely beach so we didnt use the pool that much - only when we returned from a day out to cool off - but it was one of the best hotel/apartment pools ive ever been to. Rooms were basic but clean - all we needed for our holiday. We even got a double bed in ours rather than 2 singles!
Perissa is one of the two main resorts (the other being Kamari which you can get a boat to very easily) and has plenty of restaurants and bars. Our favourite food was at the Hotel veggera restaurant and Charlinas and our favourite bar was Dorian's, just across the road from the Meltemi - the owner was really friendly and all cocktails were only 3 euros!
Santorini is a wonderful, small island - a week was probably just about right here as you can see everything in a few days. Our top tips are:
- Hire a quad bike or moped to get around the island - the quads are easy to drive and cheap - 12 euros per day and you get the "wind in your face feeling" you dont get from a car
- Do the volcano trip but dont do any trips through Thomson - they are about 3 times as expensive as the local travel companies
- Watch the sunset in Oia from a bar and marvel at all the posers having their photos taken
- Walk from Perissa to Perivolos - there are better beach bars there
- Visit Red Beach, White Beach, Black Beach
- Make sure you get your free Thomson discount code - we just googled it and got £30 off each!
