“"It's nice 'ere"”
Reviewed 3 August 2012

My wife and I, with our friend Liz and her daughter Lucy, who is 12, stayed at the Meltemi Suites during the middle of July and we absolutely loved it. We were offered an upgrade to a jacuzzi room upstairs for a modest sum, and we are so glad we did. The room we had, number 14, had it's own small terrace with 2 sunbeds which were in the sun most of the day, so if we wanted to we could've stayed up there all day. We didn't as there was plenty of room around the pool to sunbathe, we could just role over into the pool whenever we got too hot, which was often!
All the 5* reviews are correct, everything was just right, we had no complaints at all.
The delightful Athena was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble for her. She arranged a hire car for us with a local reputable company, and gave us some tips and advice for our drive around the island. Car hire is expensive here, probably the dearest of all the Greek islands, a small car (Micra/Panda) costing about €220 for 4 days. But a car is well worth having, if only for a day, just to explore the island, which is stunning.
As has been previously stated, linin was changed every other day and towels were changed on demand, ie, if you want new ones leave the old ones in the wash basin.
The cleanliness was superb, when the maid wasn't cleaning a room, or waiting to clean a room, she would sweep and tidy up the courtyard and terrace, clearing the dropped flowers and leaves. The jacuzzis in those rooms that had them were cleaned every day without fail.
Some people will moan about anything. You often wonder why they go abroad on holiday, only to pick fault and make themselves miserable. No doubt some would find the choice of room furniture a bit unusual here at the Meltemi Suites, but for us it all added to the charm of the hotel. No room seemed to have the same fittings which made it unique. When all is said and done, hotel rooms have a particularly hard time, having a succession of differing occupants who perhaps don't treat the equipment as they would their own. But the rooms here are very well cared for and show only minimal signs of wear.
Perissa itself appears to be semi-developed tourist resort, not a purpose built resort such as Kamaki seemed to be. There are a lot of signs that Greece's financial problems are affecting this resort, there are a lot of unfinished hotels and abandoned buildings dotted about, which is a shame. The price of meals at most of the restaurants has dropped from last year, some by as much as half, simply to attract more customers. This can also be seen by the price of holidays here too.
Two things of note: There is no piped water on Santorini, all domestic water is delivered by tanker. Also, properties do not have dustbins, rubbish is taken to the nearest bins which are on the street and are emptied every day.
The title of this review, "It's nice 'ere", was something we said to each other at least twice a day whilst we here, simply because it was!

Room Tip: Go for a jacuzzi room upstairs, it's well worth it.

Returned from the Meltemi Suites on the 17th July after a relaxing two week stay.

On arrival at the suites at night we were welcomed by Andre and given a glass of Vinsanto wine, quickly checked in, helped with the luggage and shown to studio no 6,

The studio consisted of a large airy bedroom with effective air-con and a wet-room. There was a 2 ring hob and a fridge which doubled as a mini-bar which was restocked every day and some basic cutlery, crockery, saucepans and glasses were provided, however no kettle or toaster or tea towels so cooking would present a challenge. Studio 6 is on the ground level overlooking a small courtyard area with lovely flowers and plants it has a small terrace with 2 chairs and a table. Wi fi speed is pretty slow in the Meltemi suites both in the rooms and public areas.

The Meltemi suites are spotless from the accommodation to the pool and all the public areas. Beds are changed every other day, towels every day.

The sunbeds are very comfortable and generally there are enough to go around but more sunshades are required.

The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast with a fresh cooked dish every day usually omelette or frittata type dish and some lovely home made cakes and croissants, fresh melon, greek yoghurt and honey and a variety of breakfast cereals. This is served at the poolside and we found this a pleasant experience every morning.

The safety deposit boxes are a bit of a worry as they are not secured to the floor or wall, when we highlighted this both the Thomson rep Katy and Athena said that the crime rate was almost non existent in Santorini and there is CCTV and someone on reception 24 hours.

During our stay the communal jacuzzi on the roof garden was out of order, a nuisance as there were no jacuzzi suites available when we booked and we had been looking forward to using it.

The best thing about Meltemi Suites was the staff particularly Athena who made us feel nothing was too much trouble during our stay, she arranged car hire for us and gave great advice on things to see and do during our stay and was always approachable, friendly and good humoured. We were able to secure a late checkout in jacuzzi suite no 9 on our last day for 30 euro which was lovely. Our Thomson rep Katy was great as well her welcome meeting was just right, informative with no hard sell of trips etc and always had time for a chat.

Perissa is a small friendly resort with a beautiful beachfront where the sunbeds and sunshades are complimentary if you order food or drinks at the taverna/hotel/bar responsible for the area you take the sunbeds in. There are some bits of Perissa which look like a war zone with half built properties, waste ground, commercial bins etc but the beach and the friendly locals make up for this and we would like to return in the future. Perissa is a good base for exploring Santorini if you like to be based at the beach.

We found the best places to eat were Ntomatini (a modern meze restaurant on the beachfront) and Cyclades (traditional greek home cooked style food) for dinner and Grandma's Recipes for a light lunch and a beer and speedy Wi Fi.

Best view of the beach in Perissa at Sunset with chillout music, comfy chairs and friendly service is the beachfront bar at the Sellada Beach hotel.

Room Tip: Studio 6 is nice and quiet if you're not bothered about a jacuzzi and Jacuzzi suite 9 has the bi...

My husband and I have just returned from two weeks and we are still trying to figure out how the Meltemi Suites get all these great reviews. It is definately not four star, more like a three. We booked what we thought and had been informed by Thomson a Jacuzzi suite and paid an extra 448 pound for the upgrade. On arrival we did get a Jacuzzi suite but were informed by Athena the Jacuzzi didn't work but they would try and get it fixed but couldn't say when it would be, it had been broken by the previous occupant who vacated on the 10th July, being the day we arrived. We spent 14 nights in Suite 12 at the Meltemi and the Jacuzzi still didn't work when we left. I asked to be moved to a Suite with a Jacuzzi that worked but was told by Athena she didn't have one, which I discovered later was not the case. We were however, offered the use of the communal jacuzzi for a couple of hours for one day only towards the end of our holiday for our own private use, together with a free half bottle of wine we believe to soften us up - big deal!!!!! Athena even tried to charge us for the use of the safe but in the end did agree to waive the charge after discussion.
For a four star even by Greek standards, I would have expected tea/coffee making facilities with a kettle, but there was none of this. The fridge didn't work properly either it kept defrosting so there was water all over the floor.
Breakfast was ok with a reasonable variety, but there was no fresh fruit just tinned, oh and why do people insist on lighting up cigarettes at breakfast (british people who should know better in view of the ban in the UK). The suites are down a side street next to a property with a little yapping dog that insists on barking morning, noon and night. As to the resort itself, its quite run down and dirty, but there are lots of good tavernas, especially the Cyclades - absolutely amazing food. There is plenty of room and sunbeds on the beach, and also plenty of massage people and men trying to sell you tack, by plenty I mean plenty, they drive you mad coming up to every couple of minutes, trust me I am not exaggerating. The authorities need to put a stop to this.
Overall we had a great holiday, we met some lovely people, but sorry Meltemi you are not on our list to return. We have been to many of the Greek Islands and stayed in far better accommodation for the price we paid.

This has got to be the best holiday we have had and we have had a few!!! We were in room 12 with our jacuzzi on the roof and I was over the moon with it!!! The staff and Athena were absolutely the best, nothing was too much trouble. I have an egg yolk allergy so Leila cooked me an egg white omelette for breakfast every day!!! We had clean bedding every day and clean towels every day. I just can't praise Meltemi Suites enough. We came home 2 days ago and have already booked up to go back next June !!!

Have just returned from the Meltemi Suites for the second time. Once again we experienced a fantastic holiday in this fabulous setting. Athina greeted us so warmly on our return and made everything perfect for us. We had a Jacuzzi suite which was extremely comfortable and once again experienced the perfect cleanliness of the room which was cleaned daily and very regular changes of bed linen.
We cannot fault anything and will be returning for a third visit without any doubt.
We had great meals in many restaurants but our favourite was the Cyclades Taverna where the service is excellent and the food is wonderful !
Thank you Athina and your team !

Room Tip: Jacuzzi Suites are a definite bonus

Just to echo other reviews regarding Athena, she was friendly helpful and helped to make our stay a memorable. The Meltemi Suites offer a high standard of accommodation in a good location. The rooms, pool area and terrace are very clean, the hotel is quiet and the breakfasts are great. We were so happy with our stay, we have already booked for next September at the Meltemi Suites and to have our wedding overlooking the Caldera. See you next year Athena.

The suites, location, manager and staff made it such a privilege to be fortunate enough to stay there. We were takin in by the sheer beauty and tranquility of the place right away, we could relax in every corner of this little gem...it just ouzed perfection! Take note of what is said about 'Athena', it's all true and she's so much more as well. The beatifully styled and furnished suites were a sheer dellight to stay in, every day when returning it was as clean and fresh as the day you arrived. The breakfasts were nice, as were all the catering staff, cleaners/pool attendants etc. Honestly folks.... if you love Greece then this place will blow your socks off!
