My wife and I, with our friend Liz and her daughter Lucy, who is 12, stayed at the Meltemi Suites during the middle of July and we absolutely loved it. We were offered an upgrade to a jacuzzi room upstairs for a modest sum, and we are so glad we did. The room we had, number 14, had it's own small terrace with 2 sunbeds which were in the sun most of the day, so if we wanted to we could've stayed up there all day. We didn't as there was plenty of room around the pool to sunbathe, we could just role over into the pool whenever we got too hot, which was often!
All the 5* reviews are correct, everything was just right, we had no complaints at all.
The delightful Athena was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble for her. She arranged a hire car for us with a local reputable company, and gave us some tips and advice for our drive around the island. Car hire is expensive here, probably the dearest of all the Greek islands, a small car (Micra/Panda) costing about €220 for 4 days. But a car is well worth having, if only for a day, just to explore the island, which is stunning.
As has been previously stated, linin was changed every other day and towels were changed on demand, ie, if you want new ones leave the old ones in the wash basin.
The cleanliness was superb, when the maid wasn't cleaning a room, or waiting to clean a room, she would sweep and tidy up the courtyard and terrace, clearing the dropped flowers and leaves. The jacuzzis in those rooms that had them were cleaned every day without fail.
Some people will moan about anything. You often wonder why they go abroad on holiday, only to pick fault and make themselves miserable. No doubt some would find the choice of room furniture a bit unusual here at the Meltemi Suites, but for us it all added to the charm of the hotel. No room seemed to have the same fittings which made it unique. When all is said and done, hotel rooms have a particularly hard time, having a succession of differing occupants who perhaps don't treat the equipment as they would their own. But the rooms here are very well cared for and show only minimal signs of wear.
Perissa itself appears to be semi-developed tourist resort, not a purpose built resort such as Kamaki seemed to be. There are a lot of signs that Greece's financial problems are affecting this resort, there are a lot of unfinished hotels and abandoned buildings dotted about, which is a shame. The price of meals at most of the restaurants has dropped from last year, some by as much as half, simply to attract more customers. This can also be seen by the price of holidays here too.
Two things of note: There is no piped water on Santorini, all domestic water is delivered by tanker. Also, properties do not have dustbins, rubbish is taken to the nearest bins which are on the street and are emptied every day.
The title of this review, "It's nice 'ere", was something we said to each other at least twice a day whilst we here, simply because it was!
